Last Crusade was the perfect ending with Indy riding off into the sunset. Now I really appreciate that Back to the Future has been left untouched and there's no modern cash grab sequels with that franchise.
Say no more, I beg you. Let's not put into the ether that about Back to the Future... But 100% agree; The Last Crusade was about as good of an ending of a trilogy as you could get. For me, that's when the series ended. I'll likely watch this when it comes to streaming (and likely once, just like I did Crystal Skull).
Well hold your horses on Back To The Future thing. Unless Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are both dead, Hollywood can milk Back To The Future as long as they want. Main reason why Back To The Future is still safe is because Zemeckis and Gale shared the rights with the studio
@@Chet_24him, sean bean, nicole kidman, and tom cruise to me all do really good in films even if theyre bad..his mummy movie was bad but he acted his ass off in it
Something to be said about Crystal Skull is that, while The Last Crusade ended in sort of a open ended way, with the gang riding to the sunset towards their next adventure, Crystal Skull absolutely put an end to the franchise. Indy got married and retired, with a MINISCULE implication that his son might take on the mantle someday. Like, there's absolutely no reason for there to be a continuation to Indy's saga after that.
They should’ve done Indy 5 as a prequel to Indy 4 just like Indy 2 was a prequel to Indy 1 (Temple of Doom is set in 1935 a year before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark). Edit: Harrison Ford still looks exactly the same as he did in Indy 4. He hasn’t aged much since Indy 4 so they could’ve easily got away with it if they did Indy 5 as a prequel to Indy 4.
One point i would like to add, Helena never interacted with Indy in a truthful, from the heart kind of way, she always had an agenda and was always using Indy in some way. Contrast her with Marion, Short Round, Henry Jones Sr, even the insufferable Willie Scott or Elsa the Nazi, they all (at some point) interacted with Indy honestly and spoke from their heart. Their interactions seemed organic and real. But Helena, even when she was pleading Indy to not stay in the past, she still cared nothing about Indy, she just all of a sudden cared about the flow of history. I cannot care about a godfather-goddaughter relationship if the goddaughter had not showed any hint of her caring about her godfather.
Yes, Helena (and perhaps Phoebe Waller Bridge) as you described is a sociopathic narcissist. A vapid soulless thing, a non entity that is on par with or worse than the baddy nazis in the film. Destroyed the film like Amber Heard destroys souls..

Loved the point about the difference between a franchise ending and a franchise dying. Rest in peace Indiana Jones, you deserved much better than this.

@@anaperez5442 Well to be fair, Indiana Jones did drink of the Holy Grail so this isn't completely unrelated as weird as his youtube comment missionary attemps are.
1:36 - Wouldn't it have made more sense for Helena (the Phoebe Waller-Bridge character) to be the daughter of Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott), Indiana's friend and colleague from Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade? I got nothing against Toby Jones - he's a fine actor, but it seems unusual to introduce an old friend of Indy's so late in the game. It would definitely tie the series together that much more.
When Jeremy said, "When someone can responsibly decide it's time to end a story or end a character, it becomes something else entirely. It becomes legend. A film series ends by ending. It dies by pathetically hanging on past its expiration date." All I could think was....man...that hit so hard because that's how I feel about Star Wars at this point.
"Cinematic Zombies..." What a great phrase to describe all that is happening in much of modern cinema! Thank you, you have put into two words what I have been feeling about modern cinema. 😢
I love what Jeremy says at the end. A film series can end without dying. It almost represents a very human desire to not accept death in reality. So we approach our art the same way. It’s sad really…
John Williams is a national treasure and will be treasured long after he’s gone, no more important composure has ever contributed so much to movies and culture in general.
Agree, Zimmer is up there making memorable scores that one can recognise w/o any visual cues, i.e Lion King, Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, the list goes on 😸
i've got to say, I LOVE that they brought back the trope from the original trilogy of 'The movie starts at the end of a previous Indy adventure we haven't seen.'
And the expositional lecture scene where we learn the history of what we are going to see later. It's such a standard conceit that I'll always give it a pass. Here it felt like a wink from and old friend.
@@Bwk-mj4pm I watched in a cinema and honestly enjoyed it for all its length, if it wasn’t an Indiana Jones movie I think it would have fared much better. The first scene is the best one though.
I like all the Indiana Jones films, but if I had to rank them, I'd say 1. The Last Crusade 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark 3. Temple of Doom. But all three of them are terrific.
I think what hurts the most is someone pointed out they totally could have brought back Ke Huy Quan as Short Round to be the sidekick and the one to take up the mantle and I will never forgive them for not doing that.
they filmed this movie right before Ke Huy Quan got his career resurgence. No reason they couldn't have done a reshoot where they bring him back in a cameo at the end like with Marion though
I think the Rocky movies showed you can successfully resurrect a franchise and even give the hero a dignified send off. Rocky V is pretty much akin to Crystal Skull, except it was worse. But Rocky Balboa resurrected the character properly, and then the Creed movies gave him a very dignified sign off and retirement. But man that is really hard to pull off. I was hoping Indiana Jones could do it, but I guess not.
Every Indiana Jones rankings just comes down to "do you prefer Raiders or Last Crusade more and also do you dislike Crystal Skull or Dial of Destiny more?" Poor Temple of Doom is always gonna be #3
Temple's such an odd movie. There's classic things people like from it, like Short Round. There's a lot of great moments that are memorable and it does the character justice. But it's just so dark and gross it doesn't fit with the others. It's also off from a mythology standpoint, as it's the first time an artifact of a non-Christian deity was proven real. Technically the Crystal Skull wasn't even supernatural, just alien.
I know a lot of people who think Temple of Doom was the best one actually, because it's so different and dark. Not a big fan of it myself though. Mostly cause of the annoying blonde lady
@BlazingOwnager no more darker than exploding heads, melting faces, and a life-sucking grail. I give you temple of doom does have the different feel, but it's not like a saw movie lol. He literally saves an entire villiage. More noble than just trying to unearth artifacts or the usual nazi squabbles
My rankings for Indiana Jones films go like this. It might not be popular but I go with: 1. Last Crusade 2. Lost Ark 3. Temple of Doom Most have Lost Ark as number one but I prefer Last Crusade.
I feel like you've nailed the common possibilities. Ive only ever met one person who calls Temple their fave, and they hadnt watched the films since middle school.
Crystal Skull may not be the best Indiana Jones film, but at the very least Indy still had his touch in it. Mutt felt like a sidekick rather than a replacement, there were still some scenes in the film that people talk about (even if some of those scenes were infamous), and at the very least Spielberg and Lucas were both directly involved in it. I had a fun time watching it regardless of the flaws. So much fun in fact, that the very movie people despise is the very movie that got me into the series (minus the original trilogy that I watched on VHS). Call me crazy, but this trash is my treasure. Same can’t be said for the latest film, unfortunately.
Bro I rewatched Crystal Skull yesterday and I used to be an avid hater but after rewatching it to prep for 5. I found myself loving it more than I remembered. It for sure was ridiculous but there was some sort of charm behind it and u can see the speilbergian flavors in it that I ended up loving the film overall. Went from 2/10 to 7/10
@@MaceSyre I noticed those "Spielbergian Flavors" rewatching a couple of the movies, in this case Raiders and Crystal Skull. One is better than the other, yes, but both still have good camera work and levels of creativity.
The older I get, the more I believe it’s better to be a Firefly than a Family Guy. It’s better to go out on top and leave the audience demanding more, than to persist for decades past your prime as a shambling zombie of what you once were.
Serenity was a good end to the series though and to give the fans some closure. They never need to open that back up and as for FG, yeah... that show lost its luster and keeps getting worse since season 5 or 6.
@@aw3someinc175thats prob cause it was exactly that but im bot complaining. The big reveal was incredible and the movie was a great sendoff to what could have been the greatest sci fi series ever
One of the silliest takes I've read is that Indy drinking from the Grail in TLC actually rendered him immortal and unable to die, but he still feels the weight of age and thus spirals into being a sad, alcoholic version of his past self.

@@tsvetomirsheev3882 i also hate it, but thats life for real, some person die alone cause all of their families are already dead. Dont illusion yourself, otherwise it may even hurt more someday.
It is SO OBVIOUS that any movie about an elderly Indy about to finally put away his hat and whip should include an adult Short Round as a competent adventurer or researcher, and the fact that his actor isn't back for the final Indy movie is such a missed opportunity. On the other hand, Ke Quan Huy did get his own win in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and I wouldn't want to take that away from him.
An adult short round would have been immensely, immensely more entertaining than Phebe Waller-Bridge. Does ANYONE like Phebe Waller-Bridge??? I mean, literally anyone? Does her own mother?

As always Jeremy ...I couldn't agree more with your reviews ! Even your gestures when speaking about Connery having that zest for life and Ford being nothing but a drunk says it all . Well put !
The reason No Way Home did so well with the nostalgia glasses is that it treated the legacy characters with respect. Tobey's spider-man got a happy ending at the end of his trilogy. His life isn't perfect, but he made it work with the girl of his dreams and he hasn't lost his spidey-spark. He isn't alcoholic, he isn't depressed, and he isn't a shell of himself that some Strong Female Character™ will replace. His story conclusion is treated with respect. Andrew Garfield is also treated with respect. He never got to finish his trilogy, so he's stuck in his second movie phase where everything sucks. He's lost his hope, he's lost his way. But he isn't a shell of himself. He's still a character with potential in a state of transition awaiting his proverbial third movie to pull him out of that slump and complete his arc. NWH works as a bridge to that hypothetical third movie because he's able to be a warning to Tom's Peter about going down a dark and bitter road while also getting some redemption of his own and regaining some of that spark. I don't know what Disney is smoking, but they need to trash it because all they know how to do is to take these franchises they purchased specifically for the audience those franchises usually bring in (the male audience) and then did the greatest heel-turn in history and shat all over the characters, making them depressed, broken shells. Life is already a like that. We're already like that. Men are already broken and male mental health is already ignored. Why do you think that we want to see that same real-world circumstance applied to our beloved hopeful space wizard or adventure-junkie professor?
I think another good comparison is into the spider verse the Peter in Miles universe dies saving the day an homage to the ultimate spider man comics but also had the dead beat Peter but was still somehow written relatable that most people besides morons didn't have a problem with it
@@hibarikyoya854 the thing is that "deadbeat" Peter want a deadbeat. He was depressed because he lost MJ and he felt like he was in a rut. He lost that spark and inspiration but was still doing the hero thing because he felt responsibility. By th4 end of the movie, he regains that spark and during the movie, he still proves he is spider at his core and he isn't a shell, he was just going through a rough patch. He was well written.
I agree with mostly everything you said. I always pictured that Tobey's Peter had his daughter Mayday, and that she will eventually become Spider-Girl. Maybe that's what Tobey's Peter meant when he said things are complicated, he is busy trying to raise his daughter who has Spider-Powers.
@@JustSomeMexicanwithaMustache that would be interesting, but now I feel like it would be seen as derivative if into the spiderverse by modern audiences.
My favorite was Last Crusade, exactly because of the dynamics between Indy and his father. Right below comes Ark, then Temple of Doom, and the fourth one. Sean Connery was only 12 years older than Harrison Ford. In Crusade, they did an awesome job of characterizing him as an old bookworm who couldn't keep up with his son's action antics, but had an important involvement in the plot because of his knowledge (in the form of the diary, and later his skills in interpreting the Grail Temple traps), and wits (the pen is mightier than the sword in the tank, the umbrella fight against the airplane, etc.) It was almost unbelievable that the same Spielberg who directed the first three movies also directed the fourth, which not only had the absurd fridge nuking, but also an old Indiana Jones exchanging punches with young ripe soviet soldiers. I really don't understand why they cannot just look at what they did with Sean Connery's character and try to do something like that with old man Indy. The pairing with a youngster thing gives a nice framing for playing the generational contrast. In Crystal Skull I think they missed the mark with Indy's son, his character was simply too annoying and boring. The idea of using Fleabag as his goddaughter should theoretically work, it should be only a matter of putting her front and center and moving Indy to the old mentor archetype and the two actors would make it work... Well, at least Phoebe Waller-Bridge should do it, she's terrific, Harrison Ford is kind of being typecast these days as a grumpy old man, but it should work.
The best and perfect ending. Finally went to see this and it's not that bad. Great opening train sequence that's worth the price of admission. Overall flea bag proved herself and Mads Mikkelsen kills every role he's in. Not sure why fans didn't show up.
The day they released the clip with Phoebe Waller Bridge’s character responding to Indiana Jones question of: “How did you end up like this”? And she responds with: “What do you mean? Daring? Resourceful? Beautiful? Self-Sufficient?” I knew EXACTLY what type of movie this was going to turn out to be…..I will NOT be giving Disney my money on this one..
What is worst PWB is only failing upward. She destroyed Solo with feminist robot, now Indiana with this and next on agenda is Tomb Raider. Any project with her suffers the same faith and she is still somehow employed.

More than its competitors, Disney can withstand some of its movies functioning as loss leaders. In addition to racking up ticket sales, the studio's films are designed to boost interest in toys and theme parks. So although "The Little Mermaid" barely floated past the $500 million mark, the return of Ariel is helping to sell themed Legos, backpacks, dolls, bedding and nail polish. The same goes for underperforming Marvel adventures like "Ant-Man," which brings an influx of interest to Avengers Campus, a Marvel Cinematic Universe-themed area at the Disney California Adventure park. "They may not make it at the box office, but Disney will make up for it in merchandise sales and the longevity of the property," says Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitors Relations. "That's a lot different than Paramount or Sony, who needs to make all their money back at the box office."
Little Mermaid and other MCU bombs don't do well _enough_ in merch sales because no kids who didn't watch it or watched it but spent most of the time on their iPads because the movies sucked so much are going to want a toy. This is different than the Cars franchise, they are expecting a _boost_ not a mostly same merch sale if they weren't making a movie at all. They expect these movies to both do well and the merch sales to do well in turn, that is what they aim for, when they don't get either or just average merch sales but a bomb in the box office then the movie is considered by most oulets to be a bomb, if everything was hunky dory with the new movies Bob Iger himself wouldn't literally be saying it was disappointing, he would be making the same flawed argument you are making but keep coping I guess.

I mean since _"poochie went back to his home planet"_ having an elderly Indiana Jones reunite with a hypercompetent Short Round would have been heartwarming, and brought even more validation to Temple of Doom. But it's better for him to have been in E,E,AAO, and I'd never want that to change.

Say what you will about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but it at least gave Indy a perfect ending, with him finally marrying Marion and having a newfound family with his son. I assume with this movie portraying him as an old drunk, they also went out of their way to kill off Marion and estranged him from Mutt. This just makes me feel bad for Harrison Ford, because you can tell how passionate he was to return to a role he loves most in recent interviews, even getting emotional in one of them.
Arguably every film gave Indy a 'perfect' ending. Indiana Jones doesn't need a 'definitive' ending like Star Wars because at its core it's an anthology series. That's what Indy 5 has missed - it's trying to portray itself as the film which is giving the 'final, definitive' say on the story when that was never the nature of the Indy films in the first place.
Mutt is killed in Nam, and Marion is divorcing Indy, they just wanted to create conflict so by the end he can connect with Marion again, so people have an artificial cute and emotional moment, in overall it only amplifies the fact that this movie is objectively unnecessary. Indiana Jones is a trilogy and I'll die on this hill. :)
@@Ali007572 Crystall Skull is just another adventure. Everyone says that Last Crusade was the perfect 'definitive' end to the series, but what does that actually mean? The main struggle in that film was Indy resolving the conflict with his father - that wasn't a conflict in TOD or ROTLA. A concept that had they brought it to a close at the right point, it would be something that could continue to live on and be admired in syndication (like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul). Indiana Jones should have stopped at The Last Crusade. But that’s Hollywood for you…
X-files got too long winded in general but it was just the nature of that show. I could still watch new Mulder and Scully just because I love those characters so much. Yep Last Crusade is the best. Raiders, not in my opinion. First yes, best no. Sean Connery elevated Last Crusade above the rest, because it was not just about MacGuffin chase, but about a nuanced and realistic father-son relationship. (Good relationship in some ways, appalling in others) Temple of Doom is a bit too dark but more importantly I hated the female character

It tries to be darker with slavery, human sacrifices, insects, and heart ripping, but it also tries to be too goofy with the silly and annoying sidekicks. Also the best part of the movie, the villain, is only introduced in the last third of the movie so he doesn’t get to do much. Plus his death was kinda lame compared to the others (though from what I heard of Dial of Destiny, that guy’s death is even more lame). So I already found it silly that people constantly dismiss Crystal Skull and say “there’s only 3 Indy movies”. There’s only two truly fantastic Indy movies. Actually i rewatched crystal skull recently and it wasnt even as bad as i rememebered. Maybe the fact it is a 2008 movie and we went through 10+ years of shitty, unispired garbage, cash-grab movies helped the re-valuing of that movie.
I've heard the newest release of Crystal Skull has new & improved colour grading. The movie no longer looks like someone smeared Vaseline all over the lens.
I don’t like Crystal Skull, but I will always appreciate its ending. Indy getting married to his first love, Marian and starting a new relationship with the son he never knew about? That’s as good an ending as any protagonist could get. Could have worked as a real passing of the torch.
All I wanted for 2.5 decades was for Indy to go find Atlantis in a movie. I'm aware of the video game Fate of Atlantis and hoped they'd turn that into a movie. But no, I'll just settle for Last Crusade being the finale.
I think the whole film was building to Indy staying in the past. It would of made sense aswell, start a new adventure in a period he clearly loves - the happiest he is in this movie is when he talks about the past! - the world gets to continue to move on, but he gets his happy ending by remaining in the past where he feels he belongs. I mean I wouldnt be suprised if that was mangold original ending and Disney forced the ending we got to play it safe but that's me starting conspiracy theories. But yeah I really think it would of made much much more sense and actually good ending if it did ened with him remaining in the past as his world continues to evolve away from him.
I was thinking the same thing. I pictured the last scene of the movie at a modern day archaeological site uncovering some relics that tell the story of a stranger in a hat appearing from out of nowhere to save an ancient people, and becoming a hero/revered elder type to them, while the archaeologists uncover the remains of a fedora at a gravesite as the Raiders theme starts up.
I would of liked that ending way more. It would of been a parallel to indianna 3. Basically him risingin into the sunset. Instead he gets to live in the past. His goddaughter knocking him out and dragging him back to the present felt way too anticlimactic.
It was supposed to end with Helena taking up the hat and being the new Indy with Teddy (discount Short Round) but numerous leaks and test screening disasters changed it thank god
Crystal Skull wasn't a good film, but it gave Indy a happy ending with him having a family. They honestly should have gone ahead with Mutt picking up the mantle and running into Shortround if they wanted the franchise to continue.
Perhaps. But Shia's "Mutt" was not a good choice. Shia is a big reason--imo--why "Skulls" failed. Honestly, the ONLY thing I ever liked Shia in was "Eagle Eye". His death in "Constantine" was quite noteworthy, as well.
James Mangold gave us one of the greatest blockbuster franchise sequels ever. It was a masterpiece in bringing back old characters and showing how time has worn them down and they’ve lost a lot of the shine and heroism they once had. He masterfully explores how tortured our hero is after all these decades and that movie came out 6 years ago and was called Logan. but he also did this.
Knowing you are an Indy fan I appreciate your sincerity. It’s sad to hear and hear the result of something that shouldn’t been made. This was the last living franchise from LucasFilms, and as you say, it has become a Zombie.
I actually really liked the film, take what Jeremy said with a grain of salt. I loved how Indy wasn’t living a perfect life, it gives his character much more weight. And the villain is much better than just wanting power. 8.5/10

I knew this was not going to be good. Lucasfilm have burned me too many times and the trailer and leaks were not promising. But I saw everyone else getting their hopes up over James Mangold and I knew they were setting themselves up for disappointment. After the last 7 years I know how Disney and especially Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm operates. It doesn't matter what big name director they get at the end of the day the one's calling the shots are the execs and the director will make the movie the execs want them to make. Why do you think Spielberg didn't come back? Because he knew that Kathleen Kennedy wouldn't let him have any creative control. Why do you think Lucasfilm has such a problem keeping directors and getting movie's made? Because none of them could deal with Kathleen Kennedy's controlling nature. The only one who could is J.J. Abrams who does whatever he is told and Rian Johnson who shares her sensibilities. As long as Kathleen Kennedy runs the show at Lucasfilm then this are the type of movies you are going to get. She is the common denominator in all of the problems Lucasfilm has had since it got sold to Disney and it doesn't matter what big name they get to make their next movie nothing will change while she is still there.
Indiana Jones survived falling out of a plane and crashing down a mountain on an inflatable raft in temple of doom. Let's not pretend these movies are supposed to be realistic lol.
Finally someone speaking sense. I recently watched the original trilogy and while they are great fun they are not these cinematic masterpieces that these online haters of Disney make it out to be. They are full of silly, senseless stuff and there’s practically no character exploration. Just shows this false perception of shitting on new and over glorifying the past.
Here’s an idea for a good Indiana Jones spinoff series. Imagine this: Call it Short Round and the (insert something) and bring onboard Ke Huy Quan as the lead, give a good story that’s written with passion - all of the stunts done practically as well with little to no cgi tampering. Shoot it all on film and ground it in realism. What the originals had going was the perfect blend between realism and forces beyond our comprehension being unearthed. Haven’t seen Dial of Destiny of yet so I don’t want to go in expecting much, but either way I want to see a return to form , maybe even with VFX that are purposely downgraded to fit the style of the 1980s. That would be so sick
To each their own. I was enjoying the film well enough. I didn’t grow up with Indy in my house, but I watched them as an adult and enjoyed the spirit of the film like you did with RRR. It’s completely nuts but the production design, top class CGI when it’s working, and the acting is all fantastic. I did not guess the twist at all and it’s pretty silly, but I kind of liked that Indy got a happy ending. It’s an 8/10 for me, B+ is not a bad time. It reminded me of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, where a film from the ground up is a weird concept (80 year old Indy still doing his thing for one last hurrah) but in terms of execution, this is the best we’ll get. You can tell James mangold poured his heart into it and it didn’t feel corporate compared to the marvel/Star Wars stuff. There’s a reverence to the material that’s not present in much of modern Disney, away from the circlejerking.

Agree. Last Crusade was the high water mark not just for the series, but for this type of movie.

It got quite blatant with "let the past die". Thank you
I agree with mostly everything you said.

Last Crusade is one of my favorite movies of all time & just a perfect film, in my opinion.
Exactly thank you!! It's literally the best Indiana movie . 🍻
Raiders is mine
My favorite was Last Crusade, exactly because of the dynamics between Indy and his father. Right below comes Ark, then Temple of Doom, and the fourth one.
Sean Connery was only 12 years older than Harrison Ford. In Crusade, they did an awesome job of characterizing him as an old bookworm who couldn't keep up with his son's action antics, but had an important involvement in the plot because of his knowledge (in the form of the diary, and later his skills in interpreting the Grail Temple traps), and wits (the pen is mightier than the sword in the tank, the umbrella fight against the airplane, etc.)
It was almost unbelievable that the same Spielberg who directed the first three movies also directed the fourth, which not only had the absurd fridge nuking, but also an old Indiana Jones exchanging punches with young ripe soviet soldiers.
Yeah I love last crusade and to me the best part of temple of doom is short round! He’s amazing!
The best and perfect ending. Finally went to see this and it's not that bad. Great opening train sequence that's worth the price of admission. Overall flea bag proved herself and Mads Mikkelsen kills every role he's in. Not sure why fans didn't show up.
The opening sequence was the best part of the movie.
Did you see it turn from yellow to pink as he was drinking it?

Well deserved in my opinion. Helena Shaw is one of the worst characters in a movie I've ever seen
To be fair she was in an Indy movie where Indy was past his prime.
Scratch that, reverse that.
It's exclusive to TLC, there's not meant to be an overarching grand narrative from the previous films like in Star Wars. It's like the Bond films before Daniel Craig.
Well said, 4 really isn’t as bad as they make it sound, also that sounds really awful for indy 5 and i don’t consider it canon like all of disney’s projects
I tend to call this “X-Files Syndrome”. A concept that had they brought it to a close at the right point, it would be something that could continue to live on and be admired in syndication (like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul). But, because they decided to keep digging it up and dragging it on, it ultimately killed it. X-Files should have stopped after Season 7 (with two movie’s following to wrap up the mythology). Indiana Jones should have stopped at The Last Crusade. But that’s Hollywood for you…
X-files got too long winded in general but it was just the nature of that show. I could still watch new Mulder and Scully just because I love those characters so much. And in the end I didn't think they did anything to ruin those characters thank goodness. But what Disney did to IJ and SW is just that

@@woulfhound Tron Legacy wasn't a cash grab. It was very ambitious and they worked on it for years. It only went into production after the right director, the right technology and the right script was available.

X-Files could have continued on as occasional seasons - David Duchovny even said that "As far as I'm concerned, it's not over until one of us dies". In fact, the issues the X-Files had foreshadowed in the 90s - surveillance, biotechnology, AI etc. - had become even more relevant.
The problem was Chris Carter. He couldn't distinguish between good and bad scripts, and he refused to drop his obsession with the mythos that just kept getting more and more bizarre. Or let someone else have more creative control.
So in that case it wasn't like the series ran out of steam, it was that the creator lost his mind.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched just the intro here.
Agreed. Nobuo uematsu is talented beyond belief. His music is so varied its insane and he somehow managed to make every track suit whatever was being made perfectly. I would love to meet him someday but that probably won't happen.
Don’t you mean John Williams?
who?
@@shack8110final fantasy composer. He was mentioned in this video along with John Williams as one of the great composers. Which I completely agree. John Williams is the best film composer of all time and Nobuo Uematsu is the greatest video game composer of all time, and no one can change my mind.
Koji Kondo?
@wavion2I think the only real competitor to Uematsu is Koji Kondo, and even then Uematsu has him beat
I have to say this. Going to the theater is so expensive and time consuming that I have to choose carefully what I see. Jeremy‘s review cinched it for me, I’m not going to waste my time going to the theater for this. I think going to the theater altogether has lost its magic for me. I wish it wasn’t the case, but I think it’s where I’m at at this point.
I prefer to watch movies alone, idk I feel more connected to a movie or show when I watch it alone
Yeah I'm just busy and I don't want to give these companies my $$$ for the crap they put out now
It’s the last Indy movie, Im in, it’s on 61% on rotten, the audience will like it, I think everybody has high expectations, I just want an adventure movie
Same here
It depends on the movie. The movies have to be good for people to see them in theaters.
I'm impressed not only with Jeremy's appreciation of the nature of music, but that he put Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda in the same echelon as John Williams. Fuck yeah.
This mention made my day
He really likes his video games.
This man games.
The only reviewer i trust. Most other top youtuber reviews are disney shills, they ruin their reputation, thankfully Jeremy doesn't switch to the dark side of becoming a shills to disney/woke
I admit I was hoping for a sarcastic thumbnail of you holding a whip and gun with a HUGE smile on your face haha. Your Rise of Skywalker thumbnail still gets me.
Disney and Kennedy have destroyed yet another franchise. Congrats!!
They didn't destroy anything the original of Star Wars is still good the prequels I still like sure what Disney is doing shit at worst and mediocre at best but it doesn't get rid of what was good just like this yah it's shit and was always going to be shit but that doesn't make what came before worst they didn't destroy anything they just wasted a chance to make money
Now Kennedys failure is complete
You could say that again.
It was already destroyed by Spielberg and Lucas with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull memory holer
How is it destroyed it just a bad movie I happy that this hopefully the last movie in the franchise
Did Jeremy namedrop Yasunori Mitsuda as one of the greatest composers ever? What a legend
I mean, where's the lie though?
THANK YOU! Your thoughts are exactly how I feel. Yet everyone I talk to are like, "you're wrong SkeL, this movie is amazing, you're just overthinking it". I thought I was going mad. It's a shame as like you say, there's elements that could have worked here.
nah, its a mediocre flick. Nostalgia is just blinding people
Blame Disney for this. They keep ruining franchises and old gems. They ruined Star Wars and now Indiana Jones. Too much mismanagement and greed at their studios.
Star wars was ruined with Episode 1 and indy with movie 4.
@@Darkness1984 There are different degrees to which things can be ruined. Episode 1 and Indy 4 look way better now, in comparsion to what Disney has done.
KK has this fetish for making older men shells of their former selves. All of his legendary status from young Indiana Jones chronicles through Last Crusade, even at least through getting married to Marion---NAH GOTTA MAKE HIM OLD DRUNK LOSER. Han was a deadbeat, Luke jaded, abandoning the jedi order etc YAWN
Disney deserves some blame, but let's not act like Lucasfilm hasn't been trash. Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm are the ones who've been making these films. The majority of the blame falls on them.
They bought the cash cows for the purpose of milking them. Just milking and milking and milking and milking some more. Just extracting all the milk they can figure out how to get out of them.
5:47 Using Star Wars to punctuate bringing a series back to life that should have stayed in the past is downright poetic.
Let's face it, Disney hates all franchises it bought. They are arrogant producers and studio executives that think they can enhance the old heroes people love for modern audiences.
Can’t remember who said it regarding to the WGA strike. Disney rewrites every script to make it „the Disney way“ ;)
all with a post modernist approach to classic characters. Seriously it’s ata point where they’re gonna do a character deconstruction of Lightning McQueen from cars
@@chrxs61632 He will be a divorced wrecked car addicted to low-octane gasoline.
You can blame Kathleen Kennedy, she wants the future of film to be "strong female leads" and then puts out the most trashy film with horribly written female leads
Disney even hates their own creations. Part of the reason why they have those live action remakes.
I edited my comment. I realize I was being harsh and responding to what I read. That’s not how I am normally with regard to media.
I love the film Raiders of the Lost Ark. one of my favorite films.
I’m looking forward to seeing the new Indiana Jones film. Thank you
Nothing better than watching an eighty year old depressed man getting chased across the world by another old man and three other people 😍🥰🥰
To be fair, that's basically the entire premise of the Nick Frost/Simon Pegg franchise
@@azurephoenix9546 hello I had a change of heart the other day. I didn’t get the chance to edit or change my comment
I realized Harrison is really happy with the character arc for Dial of Destiny and I haven’t watched the movie yet. I believe I allowed myself to get caught up in negative messages I noticed online
You make a good point regarding Simon Pegg. I need to see the movie and remember how difficult it is to make these films.
Bless your heart and I appreciated your response.
@schottschott6825
The 2 leads annoying each other and becoming friends in the end is totally doable, but it is also very difficult to get it right. It's one of those things that either lands really well or slaps like a fat man's belly flop. 🤷🏽♀️
We'll see how it shakes out
@@azurephoenix9546 that’s a really great point your making. Greetings from Fargo. North Dakota
Spot on and well said.
When great directors work for Lucasfilm results are..., you know yourselves 😅
Indiana Jones survived falling out of a plane and crashing down a mountain on an inflatable raft in temple of doom. Let's not pretend these movies are supposed to be realistic lol.
Finally someone speaking sense. I recently watched the original trilogy and while they are great fun they are not these cinematic masterpieces that these online haters of Disney make it out to be. They are full of silly, senseless stuff and there’s practically no character exploration. Just shows this false perception of shitting on new and over glorifying the past.
Wow the people who seriously messed up the Sequel trilogy messed up the new Indy movie? No way!
Hats off to 90 year old man 😂
For doing stunts in the movie
he's only 80 81 this year
You're about 10 years off bud. A quick Google search would have shown you that he's not 90 years old but 80. That's quite a difference.
