Fun translation! Though it does feel like there's an extra beat to most of the lines. But otherwise a great, great production easily watched over and over. Good acting (an abundance of hand and arm acting aside), set design, and even cinematography. Thank you for posting!

This is my first encounter with the story. I am glad it is modern so that I can easily follow what is going on. And since it was originally written in rhyme, then I suppose I get the full effect by this play rhyming as well.

Lin-Manuel Miranda would be proud. It's high skill to play with language like that, and besides, Moliere's present audience was supposed to laugh too, not get turned on by poncy language.

I went to an Israeli alternative theater last night and suffered . The main female role was given to a robotic pretty woman and they tried to make it midern but usdd classic translation which made it very difficult to understand . I am ALL FOR MODERN TRANSLATIONS .The words are eternal.
I studied theater and I didn't understand anything because the language was a stiff translation

Cringed during every second. I’d rather read and struggle through the archaic language than listen to all of this stupid blasphemy.

The beauty behind Moliere's words was completely lost and I think the modernized version does not do the actors justice. Also, some of the actors are hard to understand.

Alexi .Langlois I disagree .a modern translation is necessary

No, the beauty is here. It's a great job, a great rendition.

@@queensigal Yes. A modern translation is necessary and the one they give is good. They should have give up rhymes. But it's good anyway.

The greatness of this play is in the language. This really kind of cheapened the entire thing. Plus it feels like everyone is REALLY trying SUPER hard to act. Nothing feels natural and the dialogue is exhausting. Nothing about this adaptation really provided an enhanced understanding to this play.

    • @queensigal

I disagree . The modern translation allows everyone to understand the eternal ideas . I heard the classic text in a modern setting and it was HORRIBLE .

That's completely ridiculous. The Misanthrope is a masterpiece, they make it like garbage.

I agree. The very first scene: I don't believe for a minute that there is anything in those beer bottles. And so many lighting shadows. The adaptation is a good one.

Fifth time through and I STILL love this, even if the brother playing the best friend does his best to distract from the fun with all his hand, arm, shoulder, and elbow acting. He needed to leave the kung fu lessons at home.
