  • Before the Covid 19 lockdown, I spent an evening with Clark Sutherland of Bennachie Bike Bothy talking over his custom build Bird Aeris AM9. The blether covered all things custom MTB, and this is the first of a series of short videos from that blether.

I loved this video. I think because I've ridden with Clark and also have an AM9. Interestingly when I went for my build I went the other way altogether, trying to lighten each component. My size L was 14.6kg when I first got it. I haven't weighed it recently but with tyre changes I think it's about 15kg and I am debating fitting a CushCore in the rear for when I start riding mountain trails in the summer. I am quite a light rider, probably through cowardice, so I can normally get away with light ish wheels. I also went for the Pike up front and air shock. Great wee video. It's awesome to hear the thought process of the rider. Hopefully catch you guys this summer for some northerly MTB action 👍

Man, hope your terrain is a little more forgiving than what we have in the mid-Atlantic USA. I have ex511, cushcore, and E13 Lg1 reinforced tires, and the rear has some PROPER dings in it. Usually running about 32 psi as well. Just ungodly harsh stuff here.

We tend to have rock and mud (liquid loam) so at least the mud takes a touch the impact out of it 😂

      Yup, that sounds brutal!

Bothy Blethers is a great idea! Clark is a driving force behind so many initiatives. Let’s hear more from the Bothy for sure! What next? How about a review of his local riding spots, for those not aware of what’s around the Bothy for riding? Get the maps out and the kettle on. Describe his top ten local trails?

I have the same saddle, handlebar, hubs, rotors but different colours on some.
but all served me well still going strong.
