Phantom Manor is one the greatest rides in Disneyland Paris. For some, including my youngest brother, is the best. We love the park, we love Phantom Manor. I have been wanting to make something from PM for quite some time. So last year I started working on this bust. I didn't know who the character really was so I looked into it. Turns out it's the Devil, no surprises there. But... there is a story behind it.
Some may be aware of the fact that Disney actually hired the great Vincent Price to record the narration parts for the ride. Long story short, the recordings were not used, except for Price's laugh which one could hear throughout the attraction. Disney imaginneers in order to honor the legendary actor gave his likeness to the very first character you see even before entering the attraction's grounds. Looking at you as you are about to enter the Manor's gate, there he is... The Vincent Price Devil, the top part of a beautifully dark plaque.
The ride went through some changes about two years ago. I was actually very disappointed with my luck because I was at the park the day before the ride re-opened. That's when I first got the idea of making something from the Manor, cause so I was so sad I didn't get to see it. Two years pasted and in 2021, during halloween, I visited the park again and I got to see all the changes they made. The Price recordings are now used for the ride!!! Vincent price is the host, The ghost host. And it sounds amazing! That's old news of course to every Manor fan.
As I mention above, I started working on the bust last year. Then I got caught up in some other projects and I didn't get to do much with it. So here is Part 1, the first day on going back to sculpting and completing the Vincent Price Devil bust. Enjoy...
