Great Video... I have 2 pumps just like this one at my job. One of them started leaking so i followed the steps of the video. Used my cell phone and ear phones to hear the great Words of Tom, Mechanical Rooms tend to be really noisy. Got the job done succefully... Much Thanks
You are a great teacher mister, your video is completely practical and better than the stupid company videos. God bless you.
Boss sent me to replace the seals on a 1510. Never done one before...your video walked me through it...Great instruction and video production ! Thank you
Fantastic video, thank you for sharing.
Glad to help and thanks for the compliment!
Appreciate the kind words Alex. Glad to help!
Nice job, really helpful, thank you.
i love these vids! keep up the awesome work!
One of the Best how to videos i have ever seen. you are the man!! I have weinman closed coupled shaft pump. The previous contractor put 4 seal kits in it last year. Its a weinman 5G pump. wish u could do one on that thing. I have not done a weinman. I've done Peerless pumps. but seriously a good video bro. thank u for doing it
Thank you for the video ..very helpful. You guys rock 😎👍
Thanks for the help!
Thank you! This video is very helpful
thanks
To remove a sleeve guys just tap it with a ball hammer on all sides, now if it doesn't come off. Then I would suggest using a torch thanks for your input
We do not recommend tapping the sleeve without using the torch as any impact can damage the stainless steel shaft. The torch is used to soften the Loctite to allow the shaft to slide off easily and prevent damage to the motor shaft. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the compliment! Are you asking about the coverplate? If the coverplate is rusted where the boot and the white ceramic go, put a wire wheel on your drill and brush it off. If the coverplate is pitted or has grooves, you will need a new coverplate. If you have additional questions, give me a ring at 877-775-7782.
Must be nice pulling a brand new one apart... my teardown did not go that easy haha.
well done thank you
No problem Jim! Talk to you in the AM. -Tom
Great video My only input is @ 14:32 when removing the Shaft Sleeve Make sure to not to hit the actual shaft because you will put a nick Damaging the shaft and will cause a leak. this would defeat the purpose of the shaft sleeve.
What I normally do is I score a line on the shaft Sleeve and tap it tap that area with a chisel.
Excellent, I have a similar pump to repair at work. After seeing this I think it will go pretty smooth, if everything will come apart. Thanks again!
Glad you liked the video. Hopefully your repair goes smoothly. Give our pump experts a call at 877-775-7782 if you need anything else. Thanks!
@animebsd many, many thanks!
Thanks for watching... I'm going smoke.. A true mechanic ending Hahaha great video
It is superb demonstration, mainly concerning all safety aspects of the machinery. AWESUM !!!! My request to you is that how can I replace the originally installed gland packing assembly by a mechanical seal, off course it is a high capacity sea water centrifugal pump. I'm looking for the solution for last 3 months . If you can help me in this matter, I'll be ever grateful to you.
Thanks,
Regards,
Sambit
Great video, very informative. Could you do one hanging upside down in a power plant basement? Thanks anyway.
great video .very informative but when the stuffing box coller of pump get rusted what we have to do? because there is a chance of leak
Ok , So some one did not mark the housing to the Valuate, how does this affect the install,?
Would it be the same process for a bigger 1510 series...I have bell and gossett vsc. Just wondering if there is any difference other then size
He needs a set of brass punches to keep from causing damage to places like the key way slot and driving the key back in
I'm fairly new in the field of HVAC but, the guys I've helped rebuild pumps were adamant about me not touching the ceramic seal. They stated the grease on my fingers would be enough to mess it up. Is that true? This video seems to prove otherwise but, I wanted to see if you heard anything about that at anypoint. Thanks for the step b step video!
I don't know about this pump but on the Allis Chalmers 2000 series you don't want to touch the face of the seal sealing surfaces because like your friend said it could damage the seal and the pump would leak
how do I know which seal kit to order for the 1510 Im working on? seems to be like 20 or more options. Is it just the shaft size and material thats different between them all?
It depends on the shaft size and application. There are four shaft sizes: 5/8", 1-1/4", 1-5/8", 2-3/8" and a variety of applications: standard, glycol, high temperature, high PH, etc. If you have a picture of the pump tag, we can figure out the correct part number for you! Feel free to email a picture of the pump tag to info@statesupply.com and we will get back to you same-day.
No anti-seize on any of the bolts?
How do you suggest cleaning the place the the rubber boot and ceramic insert go? The one in the video is much cleaner than the ones you normally come across. Most of the time they are pretty rusty.
Thanks
+Joel Ward A fine wire brush or tooth brush with some liquid dish soap should do the trick.
I did every thing you said but my brass sleeve stick out further then yours does and it's a different pump but when I went to put the propeller on it would lnt go far enough back because the brass sleeve stops it from going further..... Help
Hi Josh, please give us a call at 877-775-7705 and speak with either Tom or John L. They'll get you squared away ;-)
I'm working on a tigerflow which I can't find no videos on. But generally same thing, generally. But my boss wants to use Dremel to cut a line down the brass sleeve and pry it off......... I told him about using a torch and I'm not to sure he is fond of the idea. Do all the brass sleeve require the adhesive. If so I definitely believe I should use torch. But also there is a fire alarm close to my work bench, and I don't want it to go of just for doing my job.
Hi Josh, if you give our pump specialists a call at (877) 775-7782, they'll be happy to see if they can help you figure this out. Thanks!
good job scaring the shaft with the flathead.
It can be lost the prime because of that seal?
@Josh Redding good afternoon, I have Franklin Electric FVJ05CI 1/2 HP, using for Shell water pump to pump water for my house
What size is your bearing puller for this? I need one.
Nice work
+John So what happens if you don't use locktite on the shaft sleeve?good video.Cheers
+John And what is the purpose of the locktite on the shaft and shaft sleeve?Thank you.Rob
+John Also what is the purpose of scratching the new sleeve with emery cloth?
+Rob Hernandez The loctite is used to adhere the sleeve to the shaft. The emery cloth is used to to remove any residual loctite from the previous sleeve and smooth the shaft out.
Thank you for the fast reply.
one more question..Is it possible to use water proff rtv sealant instead of the loctite?
Thank you again. exelent video!
Rob
on the 1510 all you need to do is tap w/ ball peen hammer so the sleeve will come off like butter rotate it and tap on it then replace the sleeve done
great video and you deserve a good cigarette break
please don't use this video as a reference or guide. so many things were done wrong. I am a pump mechanic. not trying to troll just don't want ppl screwing up their pumps.
This is easily the best maintenance tutorial i’ve ever seen. Thanks guys
Thank you for watching and the compliment!
