    I used to work with an Englishman that worked for Rolls Royce for many years. One of the finest machinist that I have ever had a pleasure to work with.

      Daniel Lantos always someone with a snide remark English people are the best in the world. We have been made to think being English is a crime now in our own ,country no wonder people get the hump rolls Royce Is not an English company anymore. In fact England ain’t England any more it’s a third world toilet now you have only got to look around. The English language will be a second language soon thanks to the traitors in government. Dirty bastards have sold the country out. Shame on them and shame on us for standing it.

      @Myron Woodson Rubbish, the Germans got their plans from Frank Whittle's patent from the early thirties. The German engines were terrible- only good for three or four flights as unlike the British, they couldn't make materials that didn't melt.

    I totally agree that most ppl in this world of ours are just "lame" when it comes to any kind of "self education!" Humans that actually want to and have a desire to learn! This story about these "oh so cool Rolls Royce jet engines" really pumps me up! Anything like this that might be called "amazing" is just so uplifting!
    Long live Boeing and hand built Rolls Royce jet engines! johnnyguit12

    This is rather good. Yes, I know it's got the standard epic music soundtrack, silly sound effects, and a gritty "northern bloke" voiceover (he's from Sheffield, think Jarvis Cocker), but there is plenty of detail about the design and manufacturing to keep us spanner-heads happy. A Rolls Royce engine is a great British product, whether it's in a car or an aircraft.

    I repaired Rolls Royce RB211 engines in the Pratt and Whitney engine repair center. Rolls Royce is a quality engine. Pratt and Whitney JT8D-2OO, BABY8, and F100, LYCOMING, CFM56, GE C6, C6-50. My experience major in the JT8D-200 Repair of the Intermediate Cases. Engines today are more proficient in fuel consumption and maintenance cost. 3 years of Chromaloy EDM of Texas, 16 1/2 years at Pratt and Whitney Dallas/Springdale Ar. Feast and FAMINE is the Aircraft maintenance FBO's life. Wheels on toolboxes for the gypsy life.

    No, only mini jet engines can spin that fast. In fact, some micro jet engines can do 1 million rpm. The rpms of jet engines decrease as the engine gets bigger in diameter. The only thing that's similar on all jet engines is the blade tip speed. The fan actually spins at about 3000 rpm. That means it's spinning 50 times a second and the blade tips are moving at over 900 mph! Can you imagine the power it takes to spin a 9 foot diameter titanium fan that quickly and move 1.25 tons of air a second?!

    Rolls-Royce made its mark in INTERNATIONAL aviation since WWII. The US P-51 Mustang, flown by no less than Chuck Yeager, was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine.
    When it comes down to it, you have to put the best together. US airframes and avionics, UK engines, pilots from either side of the pond.
    Now if these engines are quieter than the ones on the 747, you could land these planes at San Diego...

    • @dy7296
      @dy7296 2 роки тому

      Very wrong. Maybe they mean small turbojet engines that run r/c planes. RR Trent engines have 3 different shafts.
      The biggest and slowest shaft called the low pressure runs the fan, the second intermediate shaft called the intermediate pressure runs the intermediate stages of compressor. And the the fastest called the high pressure runs the middle compressors that spin the fastest.
      Leave that paragraph aside, the max rpm varies between variants. The low pressure shaft is about 2800 rpm, the intermediate at 7500 rpm, and the high pressure at 13000 rpm on the Trent 1000.

    As an engineer I see antiquated assembly practices. Its no longer an advantage to say "hand built". All those hand fitted bolts and assemblies are a recipe for human error. Witness the Trent engine QA failure and the near crash of the Qantas A380. Sorry, but its impressive to an outsider but to me its dangerous. I wonder how GE do it?

    It's amazing how we can take millions of year old metal and mold it and manipulate electricity and use gases, liquids, and rubber to fly around the world and even into space. Less than 200 years we've had people figure out the impossible..
