Man i remembered when Chuck said that after the harden trade, the Nets were contendrrs for the next 10 years. They lost kyrie, kd and Mikal. Times flies very quickly.
Nets fan here, watched every single game last season. Few points here about this year - - Cam is gonna shock a lot of people in ways that they won't expect - passing, effort plays, trying on defense. But in all likelihood, the public perception won't change on him until he gets national recognition - like Randle being good with the Pels, signing a smaller deal with New York, and then blowing up 2 years after. This allows us to potentially sign Cam on a steal of a deal while he progresses and really learns the ropes of being a pro, and even if that doesn't happen, he'll likely be on a very tradeable contract anyways. - CJ and DFS need to be gone by the deadline. Marks has never been too reliable when it comes to his evaluation of role players on and off the court, so I'm not 100% sure if it will happen, but their value is so much higher on a good team, and it definitely won't hurt that nobody will be watching the Nets this year - if everyone was watching, then they'd see how much they've slipped defensively (not to mention CJ inexplicably regressing as a shooter). - Clax should be traded either by the deadline or the offseason. I love him to death, one of the only homegrown talents we've had in recent years, but his skillset is so valuable around the league, and if I were Marks, I would heavily consider the offers that will likely be on the table (as long as they have viable young players). His defense has slipped a little bit even though his counting stats haven't, but the signs of slight regression are there. Bottom line here is that as a team you would always rather trade someone too early than too late - see Marcus Smart on the Grizz. - Most importantly, every young guy should get a sizeable amount of looks. I don't know how Jordi Fernandez operates as a HC, but if him benching Jamal Murray in the olympics tells me anything, it's that he doesn't care about pedigree/name recognition when he builds his rotations. This makes it a lot more likely that guys like Clowney, Dariq, JWil, Keon, Ziaire, and whoever else they bring in, will get ample playing time to make mistakes. Jordi also comes from a smart coaching staff in SAC that understands how to properly take risks with lineup experimentation - see Keon Ellis, KZ Okpala a few years ago. In due time, this'll make it a lot easier to evaluate the young guys, and a lot easier for Clowney in particular to blossom, given his malleable skillset.
As a nets fan, jimmy would be the most preferred out of these options but I’m also cool with just getting more really strong role players on multi-year contracts and aim for a star in ‘25 or ‘26
Wanted to trade for KD for some dumb reason. Of all players to want to attempt to go in for that’s not the one to do when he old and injury prone as hell along with playing for a franchise with a new “all in now” owner who clearly doesn’t understand the draft/league in general.
They wanted KD and or Booker if the suns were to decide to blow it up, pretty stupid honestly but aye I'm a nets fan I ain't complaining 😅👍🏽 we gettin cooper flagg next year
They have a house full of young players with only so many mins to distribute, drafting more young players with no way to develop them would’ve kept them in a rebuild. They traded for the suns picks two reasons 1. Push back their pick selection and 2. Be the first team in line to get Booker WHEN The Suns collapse.
They actually have all their first round picks except 2027. That 2028 is a swap that they control the rights to from the KD trade, so they get the more favorable, which would be their own pick unless Phoenix is ass by then
I hope that Cam Thomas can actually crack the Nets starting line up this year. Him being a back up SG on bad teams is starting to actually hurt his reputation as a player.
@@ColdHoops I mean if you can get *anything* for him that’s absolutely the move, but I agree forcing a trade wouldn’t necessarily be worth it over just letting him walk, especially if the nets would have to end up putting more players or their own picks into a deal to get it done.
