It is definitely nostalgic for many of us in North America (Canada) who remember Ding Dongs and mini Swiss Rolls.
Feel free to use any cake you like. The only thing that may vary is the quantity of milk, which depends on the cake's moisture. So add little by little, stirring well after each addition.
Those are like those chocolate tea bread or chocolate pound cakes right? So they need ti be a more dense cake not jusy any light and fluffy cake right?

Could we use any other store brought cake. Chocolate chip loaf cake or cherry 🍒 loaf cake or plain cake. For this cake recipe.

You can use any type of cake you prefer, as long as you measure it by weight. If it's light and fluffy, you may need to use a bigger cake.
You basically turned the cake into super fudgy brownie, so would a brownie work too?
