To everyone asking why I didn't mention the Halo announcer in this, it's for the same reason I gave as to why I used OW as a an example. I'm simply not that familiar with the series, so I didn't know the announcer in Halo could even be comparable. To anyone that thinks it's blasphemous that I'm not familiar with the Halo series, I didn't grow up with Microsoft consoles, so I didn't grow with an interest in the series. The most I ever played was Combat Evolved my junior year of high school on school computers.

Another great "announcer" voice is The Ancestor from Darkest Dungeon. A voice that perfectly sets the mood in atmosphere, combat, dungeon complications, and reinforces the games themes.

DD Ancestor makes DD the amazing game that it is. Playing DD wit voice turned off is torture for the sake of torture. Playing it with the voice is torture for the sake of A singular strike!

I’ve said this with the nine mercenaries but there’s no one that can replace the Administrator, she’s been a core part of TF2 that it’s always a pleasure to hear her voice every time I play a match although, it would’ve been cool to hear Saxton Hale’s voice in the Jungle Inferno maps since he was featured in the Jungle Inferno short like how Merasmus is the announcer on the Halloween Maps.
I’m still disappointed Hale wasn’t the announcer for Mercenary Park. It’s not like a completely different announcer for specific maps hadn’t been done before and the short really implied he would be.

@@RedShocktrooperRST Though the correct German would be "Nichts da", Medic definitely says the colloquial "Nix da", which is written as such to convey the contraction. "Nichts" sounds very different to "nix", like "it is" and "it's" sound different. You could compare it to "no" and "nope". Same meaning, same word-root, but different pronounciation and spelling. One is proper, one is colloquial.

Fun Fact: The administrator's character design started off as fanart of what the artist thought she might look like. Valve noticed it and liked her design so much that they bought the rights from the artist and I think also hired her to be their official comic illustrator.

I know she didn’t grow up with Halo, so she can’t really compare it to TF2, but the Halo announcer was the pinnacle of what a shooter could have, like pretty much everything else Halo did.
He wasn’t nearly as funny, but his voice being so badass when something dumb happened only led to it being funnier, and when something actually badass happened it heightened the moment

I think it's clear that the intelligence briefcases don't hold that much value (knowing the TF2 lore this might be true). If the administrator shows so little interest in it I think it's clear that whatever is inside is less valuable than the control points and payload targets.
In a CTF game me and the people on the server decided the contents of the case just holds instructions on how to make hot dogs.
Well in Expiration Date, Ms. Pauling made a pretty big deal about the intelligence when Scout hit the alarm. Somewhat as well by other mercenaries in Meet the spy.

One time I was playing a match of payload in offline mode to test out a new weapon. My entire team of bots died simultaneously. It might’ve just been me, but I heard her say “...Ooh...” on the intercom.

Announcers are one of those things that, if they aren't there, it doesn't matter too much, but if something adds it it's almost always memorable.
As someone who plays many COOP games people like Glados from Portam, Bain/Locke from Payday and the Trader from Killing Floor just stay with you. Be it the enjoyment of the fight by the Administrator, the snarky remarks/insults of Glados, the half-hearted compliments or "oh really, I didn't know that" advise by the Trader, a suprising level of care for criminal mass murders by Bain or a just a funny dialect/speech patterns from Locke.
Announcers really elevate a game, if done right.... hell even the good old "M-m-m-m-monsterkill-kill-kill-kill" and "DOMINATED" that get way too overused on shitty community servers are sometimes enjoyable....
GLaDOS: "Congratulations, not on the test though. Most people emerge from stasis terribly undernourished. I would like to congratulate you on beating the odds and somehow managing to pack on a couple pounds."

Don’t get me wrong I love OW, it’s my most consistently played game right now but god does it have some serious problems.
Skymin Slash Understandable, I just wish you expressed it as more opinion than factual, because I don't think e.g. the announcer makes it good or bad. It definitely adds or takes away to an extent, but I don't think it inherently has as much of an impact as I feel is being implied here.

I assume the reason that capture the flag was more calm and subdued was because of the fact that in that game mode your supposed to be stealthy and get behind enemy lines, so the administrator yelling at you when you’re supposed to be being sneaky seems … counterintuitive.
I've played overwatch since launch and i honestly didn't even realize there was an announcer till now. I guess i just tuned her out

Can we talk about skymins choice in music for the background of the video? It always works so well and makes the video so much more impactful. Bayonettas gates of hell theme when talking about the announcer just gave so much more kick to the video. That and hat in times rift theme when discussing the announcer for overwatch. 10/10

Low key had to google Athena's voice to remember what she sounds like.
I looked at your document regarding Athena. As an OW player who also likes looking up videos of tf2, I agree with your points. Even though, Athena makes sense for the lore, She's just not the kind of voice that fits for an fps announcer. Too many important callouts by Athena are usually hard to hear due to her monotone voice or not said, like the last 10 seconds countdown. (and some of them are actually called out by your hero or your teammates such as when time is running out, or a point is in the process of being captured, but they shouldn't have to be the ones who relay the information.) I also think that announcers for games need some kind of personality, whether the administrators somewhat threatening tone of voice or the epic voice of Halo's.
One other game that has a poor announcer personalty is VEGA from DOOM 2016's multiplayer. He does his job of telling important info, like kills needed to win and calls out when powerups, power weapons, and demon runes are about to drop, when they drop, and whether your team, or the enemy claimed it, and when the demon rune's power has ended. His main problem is his that VEGA is just a male Athena, an emotionless AI, and DOOM is just a pure adrenaline rush and and VEGA, who helps you in the campaign, doesn't fit as an announcer for it's non-canon multiplayer.
And hence why Shaxx is an amazing announcer for crucible.

Speaking of great announcers, I really love the announcer for Unreal Tournament (1999). His voice is sharp and with the filter he cuts through the carnage. Another set of announcers is the Company of Heroes 2 announcers, I remember the allies especially. The Soviet is cold but gets into it as you go further in the game, the American is as passionate as all Americans are for football, and the British is quite disconnected.

The comics probably contradict this, at least in part, but I have a theory that at some point the Administrator got fed up with saying all her lines manually and implemented a soundboard, which would explain why you occasionally hear identical voicelines one after the other. Would also explain how she's able to give two completely different voicelines at the same time for the same objective, or how she can keep up when people constantly swapping the intelligence. It could even explain why Watergate has a stock text-to-speech voice in place of the Administrator when players interact with the beam (from a lore standpoint, not technical/behind-the-scenes). She probably didn't have time to record lines due to the suddenness of the alien invasion.
According to the comics, Helen says personally all of the fight statements by first speaking to BLU and afterwards to RED and vice versa. Not to mention that she only has 1 hour off a year. However, the comics skip some other things like explaining how can there be 2 of each mercenary for both RED and BLU, or pretty much BLU mercs existence in the first place. So you may not want to think that hard in how she can keep the pace with stuff like Intelligence drop spamming and such.
@@Maxi-Gonz.There was a reference to the BLU team having its own mercs in "meet the director", would've been neat to see them or if they acted any different. [As well as an explanation for the soldier army in "Meet the Medic"]

League of Legends announcer gets good in the kills, you can see that in the progress of One to Penta Kill, and in events when they change the announcer for a some game champion you can see the difference in they reactions and others.

and all the multikill lines like the completely horrible Quadruple, Quintuple, and Sextuple, kill lines it should have been like Leagues of Quadra, Penta, and Hexa Kills sounds so much better.

@@MadamePianissima Many people myself included, for one QuadraKill, PentaKill, HexaKill is much nicer than QuadrupleKill, QuintupleKill, SextupleKill. Not to mention so many other games use them because they sound better League of Legends, and Paladins for example. and then you have things like Quake which goes with Multi kill Mega kill and then Monster Kill, Halo with Double Kill Triple Kill Overkill Killtacular Killtrocity Killamanjaro Killtastrophy Killapocalypse Killionaire
And comparing all these other game's announcers to Overwatch's just shows that the Announcer for OW is the same as it's Gameplay.. Boring and Uninspired.
The announcer is so sadistic in nature and serves a role administrating a never ending war for profit. I love every bit of her.

Another thing the administrator does right is the fact that the unique filter and plethora of different lines makes it so you can tell her apart from people talking in voice chat, and so it's more difficult to "fake announcement" with a soundboard
