    So right about the toys! I hear bird owners complain that their birds ruin their toys in a day or so and won't give them anymore because it's to expensive to keep buying toys 🤔 I guess they think their bird should sit on a perch all day and look pretty 😢

      Or they let them put just anything in their beaks, all types of plastics, metals. Mater the Cockatoo just passed several weeks ago from metal toxicity. The channel is called Suzy the Cockatoo, she made a video when he passed, explaining how Mater already had metal toxicity before she resucued him.

      @@Starkindyteacher There honestly need to be a LOT more channels just showing how to make bird toys. Im about to get 2 macaws (yes i know...) and while im worried about diet, time etc... theres pretty much zero info on bird toy materials. There is wood that is toxic.. literally poison. @@charlesreid9337 there's a couple of good shops online, where you can buy just the pieces for bird toys. Feathered Addictions (Bc Canada; www.featheredaddictions.com/ ) and My Safe Bird Store (New Jersey, USA; www.mysafebirdstore.com/ ) are both good sites where you can buy safe parts to make toys. i'm sure there's probably more, so feel free to add if anyone knows any.. but these are the ones i've heard of.

    It just sucks how expensive healthy pellets are for birds, I can’t afford it sadly so I try to feed my Caique a lot of banana and red peppers weirdly. My birds cage is really nice with lots of toys, I just have a cat and I have her in her cage a lot of the day, so I get her out for my shower and night time routine, she LOVES the shower, it’s easily her favorite thing.

    This video came at the perfect time! I’m getting a turquoise pineapple green cheek conure very soon, she will be my first bird. I have researched for almost a year and have a large flight cage with lots of toys and only natural wood perches.Anyone have any name suggestions for this little girl? She’s a sassy little girl, I gave her a treat she didn’t like and she threw it at me😂
    Update: I brought her home on Tuesday (November 24th) and she’s sooooo sweet. I’m teaching her step up and just starting to teach recall. Still haven’t chose a name but I’m thinking maybe ducky because she quacks like a duck lol. I still haven’t made a final decision though

This is the only way she's comfortable flying in her aviary and I could see other birds possibly having the same issue without the owner even realizing

    I feed my birds the natural feeding system for Fall/Winter and they also get roudybush, and Harrison’s pellets and a little bit of seed only when they go out and fly around
    They have 5 foot tall corner cage and lots of shredding toys and natural perches and natural sunlight by the window AS WELL as shade so the don’t just bake
    They know basic recall and a couple tricks like “robot” (they do little beeping noises that sound like R2D2) and “spin” which they do on a rope perch
    Edit: I have two budgies and might be getting a green cheek conure. My yellow female budgie is in my profile picture and I also have a male in the same cage, but I don’t provide huts or bedding and they aren’t interested in mating with each other but they also are not aggressive towards each other. I also have extra cages just in case!

    oh my gosh, yes, less is more in terms of interaction! I hear a LOT of people say, "Spend as much time as you can with this pet!" While, yes this is true, less is more sometimes. Building trust may be a few short handlings a day until that bond gets built up. You'd rather have them see you ONLY as a positive than a negative.
    In my experience, an animal that knows you've never done them wrong, will end up pretty much doing anything for you. The trust and relationship is so real and rewarding ❤️❤️

    Feeding tips for non parrot people : research what the heck of a species you are getting and what they eat in the wild. And if your birb is a seed specialist, suprise; there are healthy seed diets. Seed specialists will starve to death without grit. Also a lot of seemingly vegan birds are definitely not. Like most finches. Get those worms. And then, in a lot of species, food is directly linked to their hormones.

    TL;DR: Macaws are said to not be able to handle being around cockatoos and greys, or they might die from hypersensitivity to the dust. Thoughts, and are you separating your dusty/non-dusty birds?
    I've been into parrots for many years (17 and counting), but I only recently learned about pulmonary/respiratory hypersensitivity in macaws and conures (and possibly other South American parrots). The general concept is that these birds, apparently especially blue and gold macaws (perhaps overestimated due to how common they are, perhaps due to their nostrils being completely exposed), are sometimes oversensitive to the dust from cockatoos and greys, and can die prematurely from just sharing the room with a grey or cockatiel (not even talking multiple white cockatoos, which is a different dimension of dust).
    I mostly see this copy-pasted with the same source and information on forums like Avian Avenue, and there are anecdotes of individual birds dying due to this, but not a whole lot of hard facts or research. In absence of real studies into this, I think the best thing to look at would be breeders and rescues/sanctuaries who keep multiple species closely together. The Gabriel Foundation for example says that in twenty years, they have only had one macaw develop asthma from cockatoos (or just one in "the last few years" - the text is not clear, but they only mention that one).
    But on forums, they act as if you ever consider keeping a South American parrot and a grey/tiel/too in the same house (not room) without a complete quarantine system, you are the worst person ever who doesn't love your birds. I get that it is serious but it's clear that not every individual macaw gets this hypersensitivity, and they don't cite sources, only the same one text over and over, then copy-pasting what other forum members have said.
    Again, I had never heard of this until recently. What is BirdTricks, or anyone reading this with both dusty and dust-sensitive species, doing?
    Myself, I want to build a parrot "house" with attached aviaries in the future, and keep both a couple of macaws, a couple of cockatoos and some other South American parrots in the building together. I already have a grey. I can't do this if it would risk the South American birds' health, but also not getting cockatoos, or making a separate room/building for the dusty birds is also drastic, so I need more information.

    One of my cockatiels was TERRIFIED of finger traps. I would put finger traps on the top of the cage, and bring her close enough so she could see them. If she didn’t fly away or freak out I clicked and rewarded her. Slowly got closer. Now she is so much better, mostly my other birds would play with them, and she got way less scared. She will play with finger traps now! 🥰

    • @BirdTricks
      @BirdTricks  4 роки тому +9

      I find that people that have to keep neighbors happy with minimal noise will often create screaming birds because of it. You end up so consumed with keeping them quiet all the time that you often are reinforcing the noise you don't want. So I'd say get a bird that at its noisiest, still doesn't bother the neighbors. Some small birds don't scream like the larger ones but make a constant chatter of noise. It just really depends on your environment and lifestyle but all conures CAN be loud, but most species besides the suns are definitely not as loud as they are! We've been hanging around some black capped conures that are relatively quiet but a lot of it is because their owners understand behavior and how to reinforce it properly.

    Hi Jaime, i hope i got ur attention . My rescued Indian ringneck feeds only on rice n guava. I have tried different veggies but ones she is interested once in blue moon is soaked chickpeas, sprouts, papaya, cucumber and beans. I have tried different sizes and portions. Mixed things up, but she always picks on. Most of time she even won't even eat. I m afraid i will starve him and feed him rice again. He doesnt even eat seeds. In use peanuts for treats. Please help. I would be grateful if you could make a video on changing diet. Thanks in advance

      Baked chi peas is good too. Without salt. In some of her videos, she suggests mixing the food they like with new foods. Try papaya, my ringneck loves it

      @@MilosAdventure Thanks for the advice but i have already tried mixing new with rice, but as i mentioned it picks away only rice. And papaya,she just nibs on it. But doesn't luv it as it does guava

    Jamie, is it possible to potty train a bird? Also, do you use those backpack for birds (eg. Calltei Pak-O-Bird). Curious about your opinion on those subjects. Thanks :)

      @lizziehn5928 4 роки тому +1

      I'm not Jamie, but it's definitely possible to potty train. Usually this is done with larger birds since they go less often, but it can still be done with smaller ones.

    We recently lost our budgie this past week. We’ve never had a bird bf and I didn’t realize how amazing they are. I loved him more than any dog or cat I’ve ever had! I’m heart broken and devastated. Any recommendations on how to get over him? We only had him a year... he was the best 😢

    When I got my princess parrot we went to a pet store and they gave us a seed mix but told us to soak it in water overnight and add in a mix of fresh fruits and vegetables. Is that a good diet for him???

    My 3 months old quaker parrot is terrified of any toys ive tried putting in his cage. Small or big- he would refuse to go even near it that i feel discouraged to leave them in- Do you think he was introduced to toys too late? :(

    Thank you very much for this video! I've just started to train my female eclectus but I wanted to ask something very important: how do you avoid being bitten on the ears? If she can see my ears, she WILL attack them. She doesn't even bite my nose, but damn, she loves seeing ears bleeding 😭 I'm wearing a hood everytime she goes on my shoulder but I want to solve the problem at its root...

      They should be actively playing and seeking out the toys but not having a hard time navigating the cage because of them.

    Hey I just bought a lorikeet and evertime I go near he ends up otherside of the cage. I'm scared to let out as might fly or hide somewhere in house. I guess I just need to bond so I've spent 1st few hours chilling with my bird. I noticed he scratch bottom of cage as if he trying to run away lol or get out is that normal
