3:18 about that nice touch that each character has a different groaning sound when attacked and you think nothing similar has ever been done....well, kinda right, at least not in terms of screams, but in "Lufia II - Rise of the Sinistrals" for each character, when their text bubble plops up, the sound efect that goes along with it has different pitches for each character which is pretty amazing as well, at least in my opinion.
I live in daily fear that one day SNESdrunk will have reviewed all the SNES games ever made. I must prepare myself for this mentally. I will be strong.
Ye man theres still sega drunk sonydrunk gb\gbadrunk and excellent pointm smashtom, there are more snes romhacks then licensed games lol, not to mention good homebrews comin out here n there. Also i dont believe hes even a quarter thru yet, so plenty of time to brace yourself either way :) lol
I so need to get mame and some SNES ROMs. Awesome video as always man, thanks for the effort you put into your vids. I watch 3-4 every night after work.
0xBADCOFFEE thanks man, I think I actually had it years ago but must have deleted it and the ROMs I had for some stupid reason. They've blocked pirate bay and torrent sites here in Australia so I can't do it that way without VPN, have you got any recommended sites that are safe to DL from? Or would you just VPN and torrent it?
The Gunman pssst eh u aint heard this from me bud but i gots the stuff u need heheheh.....lol just use emuparadise or romhustler, those are my goto single rom sites, just pick the ones u want, trust me getting those big ol torrents with every rom just saturates things and leads to an easy burn out. Just pick the ones u want, and on that note im assuming u prob dont have lunarips or an easy rom patcher so i suggest for games like this, translations, hacks, etc. Just google the rom name and "pre patched" youll 99% of the time find what u need right away, add "english" maybe if the trans patched rom isnt first to come up, Lmao sry, hope this helped
ryan bizell thanks a lot man. I'll check them sites out tomorrow when setting up my games room, I'm obviously only going to use them to backup my original copies 😉
This game is actually made by Glodia - which some of its employees (including Tenpei Sato) founded Right Stuff, and was inspired by Zavas - one of Glodia's earlier RPGs. The SNES version is published by Ascii Mediaworks. Alshark (by Right Stuff) had the same battle system as this game. (This version of Emerald Dragon is developed by Alfa System - known for the Tales of the World and Shikigami no Shiro games, and they were known for the PC Engine port of Ys III.)
Tried to find an English translated version of Alshark after I found out that it is a sci fi RPG and I happen to be into them. Sadly no fan translation team seems to have tackled this one yet.
Thanks for discovering us new games! Everybody likes to talk about the same old classics. Guess it gives more views. But your labor is needed and appreciated.
This one has a good look to it. I may have to give this one a try as it might be my style of RPG. The presentation looks nice with the character portraits which give the game some extra character. The art really did a lot for Phantasy Star 4 and this reminds me of that. The style of the art also reminds me of Langrisser. Very interesting. Thanks for showing as I don't recall hearing much about this one before.
cutscenes, voice acting, a lot of redesigns, as far as the battle system and story. not sure 100 percent about the details but its fairly significant from what I've read.
Nice video playa. This is a GREAT game. Easy to pick up and play, "short" (under 20 hours), decent character depth. Fantastic OST too. I adore it. The PCE version is a bit better -- it's also harder and more loyal to the five(?!) computer versions that precede it.
I know this is an old one for this channel, but it’s cool to see after just seeing a review for the original PC-88 version over on Basement Brothers! Good to hear there is a great translation out there for those interested
Korncakes1 i know whatcha sayin, i do reccomend givin other rpgs a try but i kno what type ur talkkn about thay rly hooks u, and idk if this ones rly gonna bring u into that deeper jrpg ring lol, id suggest chrono trig and ff6 first, youll more likely fall in luv with the genre then haha
The reason this game wasn't localized was likely twofold. First, it was fairly late in the life of the SNES, and second was just the plain fact that not many JRPGs were localized at all, as there wasn't really a big market for JRPGs in the West until Final Fantasy 7 blew the doors off their hinges. Localizing an RPG back then was considered a much bigger risk than it was later on.
Wow, this game looks *great* - why didn't any of the many publishers in the SNES era localize this, when so many other (worse) SFC games got english language localizations.
Even good games by big publishers didn't make it over here (zero Dragon Quest games for SNES being a glaring omission). RPGs didn't hit the big time until FF7 came out in the west. Also a lot of good RPGs were under publishers that couldn't afford to publish outside of Japan and may not have had connections with publishers who could or would take the risk. It's a shame, but it makes sense, a lot of great games that did make it here weren't terribly successful from a financial standpoint.
Yet another SNES JRPG I'd never heard of. I've often had trouble deciding whether the SNES, the PSX, or the PS2 was the true host of the golden era of JRPGs, but the more I discover, the more it seems apparent that it could only have been Nintendo's 16-bit box of dreams...
Hi "Snes Drunk", your reviews about Snes games are great! I'd like you to check "Tales of Phantasia", a japanese RPG that has been translated but never got released outside Japan, as far as I know. For sports, you should play "International Super Star Soccer 2 Deluxe", that's considered to be the very best football game for SNES, and a real "classic" for all Nintendo Latin American fans. BTW, just saw a comment below about Star Ocean, that's another awesome RPG you should play.
Honestly this looks super interesting. And you actually play as a dragon who turns human and not a human with dragon powers/soul for a change (looking at you Skyrim )
I've only barely messed with this game though it seems as if the MSX release was very different from it, in such a way that when I loaded some end game save files I could have sworn the game was broken because it would have endless pathways and labyrinths, that I realized were intentional by design. They seem to have started the story off much like a prologue to the original game to help the story flow better, while also making it much more concise. The SNES was better in many ways but the animation scenes give the MSX game a very different personality. This game and Xak: The Art of Visual Stage seem to just make it flow better on SNES. Another game that gets overlooked, 'Illusion City,' was eventually fan translated to English) on the limited released MSX Turbo R and also ported to the equally short-lived Mega CD (though was never translated,) which has a dystopian feel to it that is reminiscent of Shadowrun (or perhaps similarly Snatcher or Blade Runner.)
Anyone else get a huge Lunar vibe from this? Something about the dragons and art style and huge personality in the characters seems to scratch all those same itches.
This game looks amazing. It would've easily of been a classic SNES game if it released here in the states. Why would they hold something like this back from us?
Good find here. Seems pretty memorable and worth a play. I thought I was at least minimally aware of all the English-translated Super Famicom RPGs, but somehow I missed this one, I think because TransCorp has only done 4 games. As a side note, I've been enjoying following this project: superfamicomrpgs.blogspot.com/ I really hope that guy keeps up his momentum, but he's going chronologically and it's going to take him a long time to get to some of the later RPGs.
I'm not making demands or anything but it'd be nice if you'd link the translation patch or something when you review these but it's really no big deal I guess. there is always google
Good call, I've added it. For what it's worth, you're the first person to ever ask for this, I think that's because most people watch these videos on their phones and can't see the description.
Man, if someone could help me is you, so since I was a boy I was obbsesed with snes rpgs to the point I ended up playing some of them in japanese cause there were no other in english left. Anyway, there was one strange rpg in japanese that started with you and your party in some sort of chess board fighting and getting your ass kicked and that is all I remmember. Those it ring any bell? Do you know it? Please help!! Ive been searching this game since the 2000s
You neglected to mention that this game also received an FM Towns port. I just picked up an FM Towns Marty and the FM Towns version of Emerald Dragon is definitely on my to-play list.
This looks fairly impressive, though I always hate AI controlled party members as it so rarely works. I kind of want to play this before dark half, but I best stay to my list.
It likely never got ported because in the 90's anime was still controversial. Most Japanese art was Americanize and looked nothing like it's source material. A game like this had too much that the publisher could not remove it all effectively.

There are still SNES rom hacks to cover as well if he wants ;)
He can just continue with other consoles
Exactly, just do other consoles. He could review anything and I'll watch 😊
Gba next

English translation for emerald dragon PC Engine CD is being worked on currently, hopefully that'll happen soon I've been waiting to play it
Too many JRPGs and not enough time! Thanks for all your relentless work, sir.
I really like the portraits on the dialog boxes. Really nice and colorful art.
I so need to get mame and some SNES ROMs. Awesome video as always man, thanks for the effort you put into your vids. I watch 3-4 every night after work.
don't use mame if it's just for the snes, just get snes9x

Tried to find an English translated version of Alshark after I found out that it is a sci fi RPG and I happen to be into them.
Sadly no fan translation team seems to have tackled this one yet.
Holy smokes, that pixel art is so good!
The portraits kinda remind me of better versions of the ones in Shining Force 1 and 2 on Genesis!
@@MerkhVision this graphics brings me back tons of good memories from my old days with rpg maker. Back then rpg maker was such a magical thing
Literally played this game for the first time two days ago... LOVE IT!
Thanks for discovering us new games! Everybody likes to talk about the same old classics. Guess it gives more views. But your labor is needed and appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to watch

How have I never heard of this? It looks gorgeous.
I watched a friend stream this game recently and I can't believe how smart the AI for your other party members is. Thanks for reviewing this one!
The pc engine port is about 60 percent complete. I talk to the translator pretty often. It'll get done sometime this year hopefully.
There's a turbografx16 version of this? What are the changes, if any?
cutscenes, voice acting, a lot of redesigns, as far as the battle system and story. not sure 100 percent about the details but its fairly significant from what I've read.
@referral madness unfortunately no, but it is being worked on. I wouldn't expect it this year.
I'm so glad for this channel, so many snes game that I didn't know about

Hey, good to hear from you
downloading all because of you dude
I remember this game for having one of the stupidiest party member deaths: Saoshyant getting accidentally killed in town by a kid playing with a bow.
I know this is an old one for this channel, but it’s cool to see after just seeing a review for the original PC-88 version over on Basement Brothers! Good to hear there is a great translation out there for those interested
There's also an already patched version on emuparadise.
nooo. this was supposed to be my secret cool rpg find
Not usually a huge fan of RPGs outside of Earthbound, Mario RPG, and Pokémon but I’ll have to give this one a try. Awesome video!
This is a truly hidden gem.
I think I'm gonna give this one a try. Looks like nice easy playthrough. Appreciate the recommendation.
Nice review! I've never heard of this game before, so thank you for introducing it to viewers!
Been watching for a while but im so glad I subbed. Never heard of this game before.

I find your videos to be very addictive. I just keep watching one after the other. Junk food for my eyeballs.
PC Engine translation is in the early stages. I wouldnt expect anything for at least a year or 2. check pcenginefx.com to follow development
Nice, thanks for the heads up my dude
I must be missing something, the website was last updated in 2008?
Billy Lavoie it's in the forums and you have to have to make a login
That battle system looks like it took a lot of inspiration from the old Ultima games.
Wow I’m surprised I had never heard of this before! This looks right up my alley!!
Never heard about this game before, but it's certanly my type of game. Big thanks for sharing info!
Wow those portraits look SS/PS levels of quality
great and informational video as usual

from the way the attacking is gone about and how the overhead view turn-based battles are, I'd say that this is Ultima crossed with Ys.
OMG, I`ve played the PC ENGINE CD version, never knew that there was a snes version O_O
Are there changes/differences between both versions?
Yep, a lot of differences, the PC ENGINE CD has better music, sound and has awesome cutscenes.
I should give the PC Engine game a look. Never heard of it before.
Also, the soundtrack is really good.
Another great video!
The PC Engine version of this game is so good. I hope they translate it at some point.
This game looks pretty cool! I think I'll give it a try one day. Although I wish you could've stayed as a dragon the whole time.
Greetings from Russia;) Very love your videos) They awakened in me an extremely high interest in the old consoles)
Hi "Snes Drunk", your reviews about Snes games are great!
I'd like you to check "Tales of Phantasia", a japanese RPG that has been translated but never got released outside Japan, as far as I know. I wish EVERY rpg had a "remind the player what they're supposed to do next to advance the plot" feature.

Great video .It would be awesome if u reviewed Dark law:meaning of death(since u reviewed dark half).
What about the PC engine version?
Have you touched on behamut lagoon at all?
Gorgeous looking game. Does anyone know if these translated famicom roms would work on the hacked Pal snes classic?
The battle system reminds me of the early Ultima games.
Any time you review an rpg it's an automatic future play for me, just as soon as I beat the 14 I've already started...
This... 😂😂
A game that lets you play as a dragon?
FUCKING WHERE HAS THIS GAME BEEN ALL MY LIFE???
Anyone else get a huge Lunar vibe from this? Something about the dragons and art style and huge personality in the characters seems to scratch all those same itches.
..... this feels like a prototype of Lunar. I have to check this out if possible.
Looks like a great game
Wish more JRPGs had tried to stick with the Ultima style of interface. Love tactical combat
Will you create a SNES Soccer Games List? I saw some of your SNES Sports Games videos and I miss this one.
Eventually, but there's 70+ SNES/SFC soccer games so that's going to take a lot of work
SNES drunk HOLY POOPERS is there srsly :\ :o i woulda guessed maybe 20 including the sufami, my god u got ur work cut out for ya eh C:
I miss the 80's and 90's.
you're welcome, and I hope you also have a great rest of your day. xd
This so reminds me of Lunar: The Silver Star.
This game looks amazing. It would've easily of been a classic SNES game if it released here in the states. Why would they hold something like this back from us?
Im an okd man and dont understand how to apply a translation to a rom. Can anyone set me in the roght direction?
wow a hidden gem! I wonder how different it is from the PC-Engine version
Love that game. They should've released it
Ever gonna do any DS games?
Ahh yes, another SNESdrunk-curated game to add to the backlog.

Btw, best reviewer on SNES gamer, especially role playing games! Thanks a lot

How about in honor of the release of God of War on PS4 you do a video review of GODS by Bitmap bros on SNES?
I think AI allies is a plus. How much though depends on how much you can 'program' the way they act.
How long does a play through take?
Not long for an RPG, only about 20 hours or so, more if you want to do all the colosseum stuff
Screw this. Gotta play 'Aqutallion' instead. A masterpiece.
Would you talk about Sailor Moon Another Story?
I did a couple years ago ua-cam.com/video/sGrX1u374_8/v-deo.htmlm45s
Sorry, I hadn't seen it.
So many good snes drunk videos, so little time...
I want a snesdrunk poster
This game has so many ports...
Snesman is the champion
I played this one. It was ok.
I love 90s anime designs
You neglected to mention that this game also received an FM Towns port. I just picked up an FM Towns Marty and the FM Towns version of Emerald Dragon is definitely on my to-play list.
The game starts you out as a badass Brea gun, but then the dragon games the ability to become human... And then the game stops being interesting.
Is there anyone elso who can't hear SNES9X without being reminded of On Liberty by John Stewart Mill!
This game would have been better with a ff style battle system, but as is it certainly does not look bad.
This looks fairly impressive, though I always hate AI controlled party members as it so rarely works.
I kind of want to play this before dark half, but I best stay to my list.
You do good work. But I need you to cover some bad games for a while so I can catch up with all of the good ones that's you've shown me.
I thought I did, with the first MMPR beat em up, but a lot of people got mad. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
My recommendation: Kabuki Rocks, for Super Famicom.
And have you heard of Daikaijuu Monogatari and Maka Maka? And what about Popolo Crois in PS1?
It likely never got ported because in the 90's anime was still controversial. Most Japanese art was Americanize and looked nothing like it's source material. A game like this had too much that the publisher could not remove it all effectively.
That really doesn't bother me I wish I could have played this game
Those damned demons!

Man, this looks like it was a PS1 game!! It's amazing!
