I wish I could erase Death Note from my memory and watch it for the first time one more time 😍
I watched it recently for the first time. It was amazing until the last episode. The ending is just so poorly done
I'm still mad that I got spoiled about L's death. Really took that surprise element out of it 😔
0:00 When I was about to sleep and I remember that my Project is on due tomorrow...
This music. I like it.
Yes indeed, now what would this entail, I think if we listen some more we can get a better grasp on the kind of person Kira is and bring him to justice. We already know he has a grown a complex of believing that he is a god passing righteous judgement on criminals, now with this type of music it only amplifies the sense of being a god.
I see..
L Lawliet if you really like this music come to Greek church and you will listen the real thing
Lyrics are written in Greek language.
Kyrie eleison,Christe eleison (Κύριε ελέησον, Χριστέ ελέησον)
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy.
It suits perfect for what Light was going to do.. When hearing it,it just gives me chills..
are you sure it's not latin? because I heard these two words (kyrie, eleison) in the opening of elfenlied, and I was told the opening is latin
Micha Giesemann it's in greek. we greeks learn latin and also ancient greek (and modern of course, lol) at school and we can tell the difference. plus ancient greeks etc did not believe in Christ. they believed in the 12 ancient olympian gods
Clio L. Christian Greeks helped expanding Christianity in Europe, translating the Bible to Greek. Of course not Ancient Greeks
2:56 this part still gives me chills
E says Христе(Hriste) Jesus in English. Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy) in Greek
When you snack on potato chips but secretly ridding the world of evil.
I can see light yagami casually writing the names of the people in the death note while eating potato chips.
this world is rotten
Dazo Fly If we had a Death Note though... (just an allusion for the Death Note world, we can actually do something about this world we live in)
Nate River I meant actually doing something WITHOUT the need of killing people, but still serving them justice, though the concept of justice is pretty relative :)
Nate River Im not evil or anything like that, but if I had a Death note I would kill every single bad person.Alot of good people are getting killed while alot of bad people are getting away with it due to not enough evidence , this world is rotten.
Mercenary Burnz That is just stupid. I'm not a catholic but I dont believe humans should be able to decide another humans fate just like that. Thankfully Death Notes dont exist, because people like you would fuck up the entire world.
am i the only one who thinks that Kyrie for orchestra is one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever??
Without a doubt. It's such a powerful masterpiece that listening to it feels like a full brain massage.
Absolutely! I listen this over and over everytime I can, I used to sing in a choir and hear the voices , the four voices , bass, tenor, alto and soprano, wow the person who composed this play is an truly artist! A wonderful piece of music , and touches details from the anime
@@janethdonado3820 woww, it should have been so good to sing/play this soundtrack in a choir! it's really a masterpiece
This is more powerful than most people imagine.
@@drawnasmr69because it is related to death, It's like a plead to god, the lyrics "Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy" invoke a sense of empathy towards those who had sinned and are about to die. Death is one thing no human can ever conquer, and this song emphasizes it.
3:45 - Whenever things go "just as planned" . I will never forget you, Light Yagami , God Of The New World
I shall make Your dream a reality, mark my words i am a man of My word.
"are you religious?"
me: ummm well I follow the ... way of Light
funny how I was always rooting for L but I didn't cry when he died (possibly cuz that was part spoiled for me and I expected it), but I cried my heart out when Light died. Possibly how sad he died... And yea, his death was spoiled to me too, but still... weirdly enough, I cried out a river for him... Probably how peacefully yet sad he died- Ryuk watching over the city, as the Sun sets.
Light s guy who died to achieve his dream but he didn't even succeded. This fact makes it even worse.
I didnt want L to die, but I didn't want Light to get caught either. So I was hoping for the impossible because one or the other HAD to happen. But I didnt think both would...
that's the turning point of the story... Near was like L... mello and near surpassed L and caught light but L failed to that( i was sad when he died)
this soundtrack evokes so much nostalgia from me, but I feel like I can't rewatch death note because it impacts my emotions very heavily ;~;
Those were my thoughts as well since I only saw it once. But now, I saw it again after 3 years and it was twice as wonderful though. xD
taebloom you and i are so alike when it comes to death note feelings and emotions. Death note has influenced me completely
I remember due to pandemic I watched Death Note on Netflix bc it was #1 seen and I was like let's give it a try and bc of that I've watched more than 50 animes prob best decision of my whole life
I hadn't realized the chant was in Greek until now... O_O
Charles1992 no it's Greek and Roman Catholic Latin, mostly medieval Greek since catholic Latin has a different spelling
@@CharlesM1992 lol believe me it's greek, that is certain. I'm greek and we can definitely tell the difference because we study ancient Greek, and the words kyrie (κύριε) and eleison(ελέησον) have roots from the ancient Greek words conquer (κυριεύω) and mercy (έλεος), but have been converted to verbs. It would be impossible to be Latin. By the way, the orthodox churches in Greece also chant kyrie eleison a lot, so...
Light is so fucking fascinating... probably one of the best written characters of all time
@@lunaoliveira1724 ne is a good character, not a good person, that's why people hate him, me included
hat was an Ancient Gregorian Chant called "Kyrie Christie eleison"... a transliteration from greek into latin. It means "Lord have mercy on us". I think it fits very well to Death Note's plot. Kira wants to become the "Lord of a New world ", or as well a God. In Middle Age people were afraid of God and its power , and then the Church adopts Gregorian chants . These songs recited a prayer to God , asking him to have mercy on the sins committed by Mankind. If you translate a text of a Gregorian chant , you will feel a great sense of anguish and also understand a little how people feared God so deeply . That's a very nice choice to pick a Gregorian chant , not only to make us feel the fear of the judge of Kira , but also in my opinion to make us better appreciate the charm of these songs .
this is literally Greek, im greek and those words are greek, its Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ, Υιέ του Θεού, ελέησόν με τον αμαρτωλόν
In Christian Lore, Kyrie Eleison is a prayer you sang to save other people from something horrible you're forced to do
If I recall correctly
@@lebarondeminuit3580 No, it's primarily a prayer which is prayed in the Latin Mass, like so:
℣ Kyrie eleison,
℟ Kyrie eleison,
℣ Kyrie eleison,
℟ Christe eleison,
℣ Christe eleison,
℟ Christe eleison,
℣ Kyrie eleison,
℟ Kyrie eleison,
℣ Kyrie eleison.
It means, Lord have mercy and Christ have mercy.
@@Syrillios pure idolatry, as if Jews in the 1st century AD would have held any belief concerning God himself coming down to Earth. They were awaiting a human messiah from God, not the latter himself. What happened to Jesus Christ was deification through his late followers since the Gospels were written at least 70-100 years from the events. Loads of things could’ve happened during those 70 to 100 years years, his true message could’ve been lost and corrupted, his actual followers could’ve been impersonated by false pretenders who had a false and warped understanding of Jewish theology and eschatology…etc. We don’t have to incessantly speculate much on this subject, just look at how different and “divine” Jesus in depicted in the late gospel of John, he is much more accepting of his fate as if he was expecting it from the very beginning, he is benevolent acting like God at all times, compare this with the Jesus in the other gospels, the one who was crying in desperation: “Eli! Eli! Lema Shabchtani?” My God why hast thou forsaken me?, would the Jesus of the gospel of John have said such an out-of character thing? or when he was praying that he would be delivered from his enemies in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating profusely with blood on his face? the Jesus in the synoptic gospels in much more human and acts more like a messenger of God rather than an incarnation God himself. Think about it, would the Almighty Majestic Lord of the Universe come down to earth to die in humiliation before his enemies? Would he have come down in order to start life as a helpless baby in a young woman’s belly for however long? And this is the ONLY God there is, the Supreme Being, the Ultimate Reality we’re talking about.
Holy shit that's cool

You really can't find any other OST out there, like the one they have for Death Note. It definitely has some of the best music I've heard from any series.
Fmab has a similar ost, check out Trishas lullaby and the main theme
I swear, there will never ever be an anime quite like this. The only anime that could rival this would be code geass but nonetheless death still comes out on top.
I'd say only monster rivals this anime, they're both dark gritty and psychological with a terrifying atmosphere
While code geas resembles death note in only the protagonist
im my opinion parasyte is the best competition for this anime, but death note is just to much...
SUB-ZERO x9
100% Agreed. Another show that is a bit similar that I recommend is Paranoia Agent.
“This world is rotten, and those who are making it rot deserve to die. Someone has to do it, so why not me?” - Light Yagami
"The human whose name is written in this note shall die." - First rule of the Death Note
Remember when Ryuk said if Light were to die, it would be Ryuk that would write his name? Well, it was true
The self rightousness , the arrogance , the confidence , the weight of his words .
All of them perfectly encapsulated by this theme . What a show . Too bad it sucks after the main event in the middle of it
The first second of this without trying always gives me goosebumps
this anime has something special i didn't felt in any other media of anime, movies, series. Death Note is amazing in soundtrack, script, and characters. Almost a masterpiece
I personally have fallen for this song; it's so beautiful, in a creepy, ethereal way, but you can't help but love it. Suits Light rather well, and his counterpart. Kira-sama.
Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison...
Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy...
I've studied this song in the past for a choral performance. Yes, it does mean that.
well he is right i am from greece .. we are christians and thats the exact tranaslation !! nice work @Not Carlos
Oh, come on. Light fancies himself a god, the religious connotations are appropriate.
Well, I wouldn't go _that_ far. He's a man of great conviction, given means to change the world, with balls enough to go for it and brains enough to keep it up.
3:43 When your successfully trip your friend in the hallway and it goes exactly how you planned it
the chills, death note is a masterpiece.
He tried to change the world for the better, but the world was against him
This song gives me goosebumps everytime😮
This gives me chills when I listen to it… But in a good way!!
Yep, yep, I totally agree with everything you said…. I cried a lot at the end...
>.< Yeah, I'd rather Light won, but I'd much rather L beating him than that stupid kid...
Masterpiece... When I listen to this music, I want to re-watch Death Note. But It isn't happened anytime.
Kyrie eleison, christe eleison, litteraly means God show mercy, Jeasus Christ show mercy. Comes from ancient greek, but we still use it as it is. kyrie, without the capital letter means mister. nowadays instead of eleison we use eleise. It is frequently used in prayers of christians and it's definitely NOT Latin :)
People should put in their heads this is called GREGORIAN chants (being "gregorian" a word derived from "greece" or "greek"), otherwise it would be called Latin chants or so
Pedro Victorino The word "Gregorian" is derived from Pope Gregory I, who gathered and standardised the body of chants used by the Roman Catholic church. He was also the one who added the phrase Χριστέ ελέησον. Κύριε Ελέησον is probably the oldest plainsong used by the Eastern and Western Churches and the phrase predates Christianity.
it's fine pal, don't worry! both languages are not exactly what u would call common knowledge neither a piece of cake! hahaha
The day has finally come when I realize my appreciation of this anime has transformed to somthing greater. I used to be able to motivate why I was so fond of it, but I have now come to another conclusion. I have become a fanboy.
I used to shiver at the thought of it being a possibility, but as reality finally caught up with my delusions, I am surprisingly indefferent about that fact. This anime has slowly seized to be a rational part of my life, and has entered a realm of divine imortality, where no criticism can ever hope to reach. Even though I do realize the existense of its several flaws, they all fail to change my viewpoint on the matter even in the slightest.
My god, this series is good. If only something were as complete as this, I could die in peace. As for now, my journey will continue towards its nonexistent end, and I will remember this as the absolute peak of my insignificant life as an anime viewer.
Thank you Death Note, for you have showed me the light (and the L).
Yours sincerely,
Levi Page
+Levi Page I completely feel this too. Even if someone were to write me an essay analysing each of its flaws in depth I would continue to believe death note is the best thing. I honestly havent met anyone else with such a deep love for this anime until now and I love the way you have managed to articulate my thoughts about this in a way I couldn't myself.
_Lain Wow, I did not expect a response! Me neither, which has always baffled me, since to me it wouldn't be weird at all for people to share my weak spot for it. However, I'm glad you liked my take on it, and I meant every word of it. Although I have found some consolation in a few other shows, no one has even come close to how I experienced Death Note.
I know this is random, but do you have an anime list account by any chance ?
_Lain I do, but I won't know if we have the same taste in everything though.
I'm SirLevi on MAL if you want to find me. The series I can recommend based on your love for Death Note are in order
1. Code Geass
2. Monster
3. Future Diary
I think you will like these if you haven't seen them, but I can't say for sure you'll like the rest of my list :) Code Geass in particular has very similar feeling to Death Note, so I highly recommend that. Hope that helps!
Levi Page ooh thank you, i've seen code geass and monster both great shows. Although for some reason i've always avoided mirai nikki. We rate things quite differently but I still enjoy looking at your list :')
I putted my ear pods and played this music while slowly walking toward my exam hall for math exam .😢
Its 2012 im just started high school and friend of mine showed me this anime.
One of my most found memories from teenage years.
Whenever I hear this ost I get powerful nostalgic sensation.
I miss those care free days

Light yagami god of the new world
3:44
"The Death Note never fails." "You're the next to die....RAYE PENBER!"
Imagine if Light wanted to do exactly the same thing as Lelouch did in Code Geass, but he never got the chance because he lost...
Imagine he knew from the beginning Ryuk would kill him the moment it gets boring, and that was the reason he never wanted the shinigami eyes...
Imagine that Light wanted to purify the world and the moment he was finished he'd expect Ryuk to kill him...
Epsilon Well that would totally ruin the story. Code Geass was a good show but was so over the top idealistic. One of the reasons I like Death Note is because it pits two philosophies that have their own strong merit, and yet are imperfect with pitfalls, against each other, and the author allowed for both to make a strong case, did this so well that there are both Light and L fans and the debate can continue beyond the anime in terms of raw philosophy. Whereas Code Geass was more of a fantasy self-insert of "I am so much smarter and more righteous than everyone else and the world will magically prove me right against all odds in the end."
GorgonNine Wow man you interpret things quite bad, what strong case? _You_ simply replying to my comment is a contradiction to what you just said, you say the writer wanted to give us two strong philosophies where in the aftermath fans could still debate who's philosophy was right or wrong, or what your ordinary UA-camrs would say _was Light evil or not_ , yet the outcome I stated is the only one that could actually prove Light to be a good person, because you know someone eradicating so many lives and becoming god at the end is nothing that you can debate around, with other words Light's philosophy is plain and simply *WRONG* , Light was shown as pure evil, where is the strong case behind that, even the writer said he was a good person that fell victim to the Death Note and became evil, in other words his philosophy is wrong, and you come up to me and try to debunk what I just said, so where is that debate you told us about if you come simply and say "No that's not it LIght is evil"? Light's philosophy might have worked out in a different way if he actually just wanted to eradicate all criminals, but him trying to become god is a different thing, there's nothing controversial about that. Also how is Code Geass idealistic? You think people like Lelouch don't exist? Code Geass completely changed the term _anti hero_ . And having a character that comes in all sorts of shapes and colors is much more interesting than having literally good and evil constantly battling with no actual ending or conclusion, the difference between Death Note and Code Geass as stories is that Code Geass is much more focused on the protagonist, because every message, meaning or whatsoever is delivered to the viewer through the protagonist, where Death Note is simply based on conflicts. Therefore Code Geass is much more stronger and sturdier, Code Geass would still have a strong story and message if you take out Lelouch's father, but Death Note wouldn't have anything if you take out L.
Epsilon I'm not going to read this whole ranting wall of text. You seem to be very strongly opinionated and that is fine.
+Hydrogencar Hellow by killing many innocent people in the process we all remember the Narita Mountain incident as well as the Japanese Massacre. In other words Lelouch was fully aware of the consequences of his actions and knew there would have to be sacrifices. So the way Lelouch tried to unite the world was not any better than his brother's method of uniting the world through the use of fear in a weapon, however, Lelouch modified the plan by putting all the attention on himself because he knew no matter what he would have to atone for the sins he already committed. Lelouch you can say took his fate more willingly than Light did in the end. So when it comes to who is more just I guess you could stretch that Lelouch truly cared about the world but so did Light to the point that he wanted to be the judge, jury, and executioner for the world.
Humans are interesting.
- RYUK
As a greek this makes it sound like Light is the actual god of this world. Kyrie = God = Kira . Very fitting for this amazing anime.
my lord, have mercy, oh christ please have mercy, lord have mercy of us"
+Black Wings gantzllat Roughly speaking? Christ is the anglicized version of Kristos. The direct translation is literally "anointed one". The greek word Christ in the Greek NT scriptures is used synonymous with the hebrew word Messiah/Moshiach, with the CH as a guttural not a dental.
Messiah/Moshiach, like Kristos/Christ, translates to anointed. Anointed one/kristos/Moshiach refers to the anointing of a King over Israel.
This makes sense with the beginning of the NT in Matthew firstly referring to Christs lineage and how it tracks back to the Anointed David, meaning the purpose for Jesus being called Christ is because he is suppose to be the rightful heir to the throne of David.
This is decided by the means of context, because the High priest of the temple is also anointed. Furthermore Biblically Christ not only is a 'christ' to be king over Israel and Judah, but also for High-Priest hood; a King-Priest. This is also why Melchizedek is meant to be an ante-type for Jesus in the scriptures, since Melchizedek was both a king and a priest.
Welp, i just realized i went on another one of my rants. I could probably go on for pages upon pages concerning the Greek word Kristos and it's Hebrew counterpart.
now i realized why we stop use sarcasm on internet XDD dude, that is something obvious, the word even sound similar. Is not necesary to be an expert on old greek to realice that. Or maybe is like that to me caouse my mother lenguaje is spanish, so some words on latin and greek sound pretty similar caouse come from the same source. For example, we say Cristo Instead of Christ. Wath sound exactly like Kristo from greek. For that, for me is something really obvious XD
Sorry. I just became intrigued by your comment. One thing lead to another and i ended up typing a short essay on my understanding of the word.
It actually helped me process a bit, since i'm currently studying NT Greek under a Mentor.
Well I am fluent in Greek and it took me forever to realize that in the song he is saying "Christ have mercy [upon us]" (Κύριε Ελέησον), so if someone doesn't realize something as obvious as that connection, I guess it's not too bad ;p
Man don't know why but whenever I listen to this
I start to get tears
Its Orthodox Christian Chanting. You can go to a Local Orthodox Church that's greek to hear this if you'd like :)
RIP Light Yagami (KIRA) I belongs to Team KIRA. All Hail KIRA!! U'll be always in our hearts
i will take a potato chip... AND EAT IT😡
This music is so essential to give Light yagami, the status of a God-like identity when he has conquered.
I just had my first uni lecture, learning about music in the medieval church. The tutor played Kyrie Eleison (which I believe is Greek for lord have mercy). I immediately recognised it from death note though 😂
It's pretty cool the similarity between Kyrie "lord" and Kira. Especially when light says he (Kira) will be the lord of the new world. Such a suiting song choice

Wish Ryuk was attached like Rem was. After everything Light went through changing the world it wouldve been cool to see ryuk write the name of everyone in that room in the last episode and sacrifice himself and see Light make his new world but instead we saw Light had completely lost for the first time. But the ending was still awesome
Nope
Ryuk is as selfish as light
And he is God why would he kill himself for a psychopath who think himself as a God but in reality is nothing more than a murderer
@@bait5257 well thats why o say attached so he wouldnt want him to die im just saying thatd be nice not that it shouldve happened
Why would Ryuk do that. Dude was just bored and wanted to have some fun, all the hundreds of people that died was because Ryuk was bored which I love lol. He's a god, why would he go out of his way to help and save a psychopath that from the day he got his hands on the death note gained a god complex and went on murdering spree. In the end, Light died crying like a bitch, a pathetic and disillusioned death. The inevitable but very fitting end for a pathetic human being.
Orchestra version especially the start gives me chills

The best soundtrack of Death Note!♡
