    I'm surprised that you have only 61 subscribers and that low views for such an amazing video explaining the difference between two technologies. Keep it up!!

    Very nice video! Didn't know the difference between HDR HLG or PQ but you explained it perfectly! Hope you can get more subscribers, this is some amazing content!

    I would use HLG, if OBS actually had the option to use it. Yes you can configure it in OBS in the settings, but you can not use it when you use a "Videogame Source".
    The properties of video game sources only let me choose PQ. I guess the alternative to this is a Desktop recording, which does not let me choose anything.

    Hey mate this was great content. Also amazed at only 77 subs - your presentation and content is fantastic. I'm going refer to your content quite a bit as I learn to use my BlackMagic Pocket 6K and DaVinci Resolve a bit better! Cheers

    I liked the video as a quick overview and it hinted at this but what it fails to mention or at least to describe in detail is that:
    any time you use dynamic tone mapping (or HLG tonemapping as represented in his video),
    rather than PQ "absolute value" HDR (plus static tone mapping by your screen into it's range limitations)
    - you are stealing brightness and thus color volume details-in-color from other ranges. So you'll probably end up clipping details (making it a white blob) at the top end of the scale, like losing the detail of the sun and clouds in a bright sky commonly to a featureless white blob, but it applies to any bright color detail pushed out of range of the display on the top end.
    Any time you shift things upward dynamically you are usually pushing stuff at the top over the cliff (clipping to white). You might also raise the black floor, depending.
    In PQ HDR with dynamic tone mapping of a display turned off (and/or activating HGiG mode), the static range is delivered to the display and then the display usually keeps the bottom "sdr" + maybe 50 - 60% of the screen brightness as 1:1 mapped, then it compresses the rest into the top as necessary. It varies in exactly how it's done by manufacturer, model and firmware versions as the case may be. For example you might get a HDR4000 metadata sent but you have to compress past 500 - 600nit into the last ~ 400 nit on a 1000nit screen.

    i hopped u had a cap pointed on the screen (ofc without any color/brightness adaptation/correction) , to show the exact differance for the eye not only theoretical .

    Did you possibly increase the brightness in post or shoot this in HLG? Because i'm not getting the look of high dynamic range in this video. Just high brightness

    • @KevinGhadyaniTech
      @KevinGhadyaniTech  8 місяців тому

      Naw, it should be exactly what was recorded. The camera showing my face is SDR, but in-game footage is in PQ HDR for sure.

    • @shueibdahir
      @shueibdahir 8 місяців тому

      @@KevinGhadyaniTech yes that's what I meant. The camera footage looked like it's 5 or 6 stops of DR max. The in game footage looked legit.
      Try shooting in Log or HLG and do a simple color space transform to st.2084 rec.2020 and it should look tonemap to real hdr. You don't even need to correct it as long as you expose well

    • @KevinGhadyaniTech
      @KevinGhadyaniTech  8 місяців тому

      No clue how to do that or if it's possible.
      I recorded with OBS, and I thought it only recorded in PQ or HLG mode, but not both. Also, my camera is SDR otherwise.

      @@KevinGhadyaniTech Allmodern camera's are HDR. They've been that way for a while now. Infact they can capture enough dynamic range to fully saturate the HLG gamma.
      Which camera do you have?

    Do HLG need Max Brightness to Tonemapped or it's okay in 0% brightness?

    • @KevinGhadyaniTech
      @KevinGhadyaniTech  Рік тому

      Guessing here. Some HLG is log gamma, it will scale brightness different from PQ meaning you should be able to use less than 100% brightness, but you'll be missing out; at least, on today's TVs.

    This why HLG HDR brightness always OK, a cheap hdr monitor watch hlg hdr video dont feel dark, but watch pq video is so dark! Only high brightness OLED TV(LG G3 A95L S95C) can enjoy pq hdr movies.I dont why movies always use PQ, HLG is good for all monitor or TV.This video is a PQ HDR Video,I can see the brightness is not bright.

      @@KevinGhadyaniTech Yes, 99% 4K hdr walking video is HLG, I never see a pq walking video,but 99% movies is pq.
