Between the ET commercial bumpers, seeing ET with Robin Williams at the end, and all the Atari commercials, this is probably my favorite commercial set from start to finish and I love them all.
My dad took me to see one of those pink panther movies. I was 6-7 so I thought it was going to be a cartoon. Not many seven year olds can appreciate mr. Sellers comedy. He was awesome in ' Being There'
December 14, 1982: That must've been the day I saw that special with Robin Williams. That was a time whenever we hear about him, we would think of this alien dude who would say, "I'm Mork from Ork. Nanoo-Nanoo!" I recall Robin talking about ET merchandise and stuff. He even said, "And believe it or not, there's even a drink." 07:51 Better Than "Labyrinth"
You don't see re-releases of older movies in theaters anymore. Sometimes chains will do it to celebrate a movie's anniversary or to pay tribute to someone or to tie it in to another movie but it's not as common as it was back then. Of course, the opportunity to see a classic movie on the big screen is always appealing...although it's usually done digitally these days.
It might just be my area, but there are screenings of older films at different local movie theaters around me every week. The concept of a nationwide rollout of older films like Disney used to do is something that has gone away as home video has taken over. There was literally no other way to watch a movie like Peter Pan in 1982 than in a movie theater or when it aired on TV. Also, there's absolutely nothing wrong with digital projection, especially if it's 2K or better.
wow yeah that robin williams thing, right in the feels :( I was digging the atari ads though, but I only ever had a 2600 growing up. after that I went straight to the NES!
Classic cereal commercials are always great. Ah, The Dark Crystal.... I really need to rewatch it, & Watcher in the Woods, & The Brave Little Toaster, & Charlotte's Web....
Confession time - E.T. scared me when I first saw it in the theater back in the day. I was 5 years old, and I just don't think I understood what the character was supposed to be. I just remember being scared by the scene when Elliot was walking through a field, then E.T. pops out, and they both start screaming at each other. I wish I had been old enough to enjoy the movies of 1982, as there were some great fantasy and Sci-Fi released that year. We had E.T., the original Poltergeist, Dark Crystal and Tron all in one year.
I remember looking through fingers at him in the theater as a 9 year old. The one that got me was That damn twighlight zone movie with the monster on the wing...
+yusakug I went to see E.T. at the movie theater and I was 7 years old and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the experience. I was ready to really enjoy going to the movies and that movie got me -- I sobbed at the end but I loved it!
+MsFarzee For me, that experience would be when my brothers took me to see Ghostbusters in 84. That's the summer I turned 7, and fell in love with films in general.
+yusakug Then imagine if they actually went ahead and made the sequel they were planning. It was gonna be about the same kids, including Elliot, being kidnapped by a new gang of aliens (same race as ET), brought onboard their spaceship and tortured and killed until E.T. comes back and saves them (except the ones who got tortured to death). Not kidding... They actually had a sequel like that in mind.
I remember Ted Wass from "Soap" as well as two of my favorite (albeit lousy) film sequels from the '80s: "The Curse of the Pink Panther" and "Oh God, You Devil"
Starmaster-very good 2600 game.. when i first heard about Jim Henson making The Dark Crystal i was thinking it was going to involve Kermit,M.Piggy,Fozzie etc time-traveling or something lol "Meatballs & Spaghetti"-seemed like another of those "high concept" animated shows on Sat. mornings back then
First they show the 2600 and then the 5200. They should have dropped support of the 2600 and push the 5200. It played all the 2600 games. We learned today that kids/teens/Adults will drop kick their old game systems in a heartbeat to get the new system.
+tdrewman My aunt had a 5200 while my brother and I had the 2600. Wished we had a 5200. I don't remember but did the 5200 come with a game like the 2600? I remember playing either Centipede on it.
Starmaster was a good version of Star Raiders, but Imagic's STAR VOYAGER was also a good knockoff. Activision made good 2600 stuff, but I wouldn't have been excited over Laser Blast. As for the 5200, it was the first home console to feature a pause function, so it's a very big deal. It's a shame that the design of this thing (the infamous hybrid power adapter/TV connection box that the AVGN lambasted in his video, and the analog sticks that didn't auto center) really dragged it down. In the end, it was nothing more than a console-ized Atari 400/800 home computer.
+Mike Troncin Yes, it was a regular Academy Award winning move! LOL Good stuff...it reminded me of "Jack Tripper" from Three's Company as soon as I saw it!

For some reason having John Williams' E. T. score playing during that bit just added to the feels. :(

love this channel so much :>
Mork and E.T....magic. Right in the feels....

And now I''m here crying over Robin Williams.
best year of my life..miss it very bad.......robin williams and e.t. walking off at the end kinda sums it all up....
Heinz commercial- Would you like some hamburger with that ketchup?

+DarkTetsuya i went from the magnavox odyssey 2 straight to the first nintendo
2600 - C-64
no idea i havent taken out of my closet for years
scratch my last it was the first model that had the controllers wired into the console with the red buttons
The idea that delicious cereals like "Marshmallow krispies" and "Apple Mini-Wheats" once existed, and that I cannot enjoy them now makes me sad.
Hilarious Frosted Mini Wheats commercial. lol

I think in this day and age, we need a high budget summer blockbuster movie about good aliens. C'mon Hollywood.
+My2Cents They are making another Predator movie- they're honorable and have a code of ethics.

Looks like Sam Robards in the first Atari 5200 commercial
The totem pole in the playmobile commercial looks like a turd standing on end.

08:45- Wass was avoiding a lady's advances while backing 'into the closet' ... Was that an intentional sight gag?
+Mike Troncin Yes, it was a regular Academy Award winning move! LOL Good stuff...it reminded me of "Jack Tripper" from Three's Company as soon as I saw it!
+MsFarzee you know I'm talking about the gay angle, right?
Mike Troncin *face palm* Duh! Yeah that was kinda of a gay move. Jack Tripper was gay too though *wink*
