It has come to my attention that the black version of this bag is made from a 500d Cordura Nylon, while the Glacier Camo version (the one I was reviewing in this video) is made from a 900d Poly material. The Cordura will be a more durable fabric both for abrasion resistance and structure, I cannot say it will stand on it's own, but it would be a much better material to use for a camera bag. 900d Poly is the equivalent material that is used in low end school bags. I would take a guess that the camo pattern was cheaper to dye onto a softer, more pliable poly material than a heavier, stronger Cordura material.
I wasn't sure I wanted this but after watching this and a couple other reviews, I ordered this bag. It is Perfect! I appreciate you going through all the features, best review of the bag by far. And this is the best photo bag ever, too. Its just that everything you say you don't like, I love. All these things are completely subjective. Except, the exterior material is certainly not weak, by the look of the other bags you showed that you have this is at least as durable or more. Unless actually tested, I guess its just how it feels to you rather than the actual strength of the material. Anyways, good work this helped me decide to get this and the mini sling to match. thanks.
While 900d Polly isn’t the worst bag material out there, it is not very strong. It is the same material most school backpacks are made out if. It is softer, more flexible and not as abrasive as a cordura or ballistic nylon. So it is. It optimal for a camera bag. It makes e bag floppy and that’s the reason the bag doesn’t stand up on its own. But not everyone will use the bag as hard as I will. So a softer, more flexible bag will be perfect for others. Please check back in and let me know how you like the bag. I am always interested to hear other’s opinions on bags.... especially ones I don’t like.
@@jeffgrantMEDIA Im sorry I didn't pay attention to the material of the color vs black option. Just by chance I preferred the black color, without realizing it is a different material than the glacier camo. Both the amazon and hex website listing for the black color clamshell list it as genuine cordura, while the color options are listed as 900d. I would not assume a consumer would notice that when choosing the color of the same item. That seems like a distinguishing characteristic that should change the price of the colors. That does seem shady of them. But, coming from using an ape case backpack before this, im really liking the fact that it doesn't keep the same "fully packed" dimensions even when half way full.
I also didn't realize that the black was a different material than the glacier camo. I really had to dig and still didn't find the weight or exact type of cordura used on the black bag. That seems a little suspect to me. Please report back once you receive your bag and give it a go. I am curious as to how it handles. I would really like to know if it can stand up on its own. That got very annoying that it kept falling over when I set the bag down.
Win Prasitjutrakul there really aren’t that many reviews on Hex. I’m so glad I was asked to review the bag and didn’t buy it myself. That would have been a waist of $200!

Thanks for a great and detailed review. It is really difficult to find a review of this bag. This help me a lot on purchase decision.
