As we are close to Batman Day and the 85th anniversary of the character, i've got to say it's a beautiful feeling going back in time to contemplate what inspired Bill Finger and Bob Kane.
Very well done. The use of scenes from "The Bat" combined with fan-made intertitles make for a very convincing video. The music makes it all the more chilling, however. While Batman works great as a detective, as a soldier, and a madman, I'll always love the spooky, Dracula-inspired Batman the most, and this little project truly captures that.
Absolutely brilliant. And I am not just gabbing here. This film feels authentic and captures the feel of a silent film to the last detail. You should be proud
If F.W Murnau made a Batman film, it would look like this. Man, you should totally try to scrape together a budget and film your own Gotham by Gaslight type of fanflick. This Vid and #2 are so atmospheric! Batman totally lends itself to the dripping, dark gothic eerieness envoked in these clips--all shadows and suggestion... Kinda like Nosferatu, where you see the crooked, slender shadow climbing the stairs and later stopping the girl's heart.. I wish I'd thought of this idea first!
Wow, this Batman is WAAAAAAAAAAY out there, look at the ears, man, silent movies always creep me out, scary, dark ones do, its just, unsettling really.
DC Comics was founded in 1934. So there is no way that the Batman we all know came before this. This is I believe was The Bat Whispers. A 1930's film that helped inspired Batman. Although I could be completely wrong on this.
It's funny how if you really go back to the beginning (I know these clips aren't actually from a Batman anything)...it's so obvious how Batman probably would work best in a 1930s setting like The Shadow or Dick Tracy..
@cha5 yeah, it was only two things that made him change: 1. Concerned parents 2. Being able to reuse villains after they're "defeated." Also, these movies came before the comics.
Fortunately for you the copyrights for most of these classic films have expired -- I think. The Man Who Laughs and Caligari remain among my favorites. I have never seen The Bat. I hope to someday.
the Joker's from the man who laughed and the the bat is from the silent shadow of the bat they were both 1920s horror movie Bob Kane based The Joker and Batman someone obviously put together the the footage from several movies he based villains and Batman off of
All that info comes from Bob Kane of course, thruth is that Bill finger made the joker based on the concepts of another artist Jerry Robinson. When I read this it made me wonder what Bob Kane actually did for Batman, Not allot it seems.
Aside from tracing allot of stuff from other artists and works ofcourse. Tarzan, Flash gordon, the Shadow. man you'd think he had photoshop with all the damn art he traced. And stealing the gloves from Black Bat was just the cherry on top of the Bob Kane is god cake. lol
just to let every one know, this movie was originally called the bat. It was the inspration for batman, and it's not about the batman that we all know. The batman in this movie is a killer who dresses up as a bat and the bat symbol in this movie is used by the killer to frighten his victems before he comes in for the kill.
And its adjusted for short attention spans! Real silent movies would hold 'em for two or three times longer. Still, must've cut down on production costs.
of course it's real, actually if you think about this was the first batman movie, if it's a movie i remember watching this when i was a kid, and always wanted to see it again, but it's real
@vulcarr He didn't use a gun? if you've ever read any of the early 1939-1940 issues of Detective Comics (pre Robin) Batman was pretty fond of killing off criminals with guns and various other means, in Batman number 1 (1940) he cold bloodedly machine guns a couple of villains to death with the statement "Much as I hate to take human life. I'm afraid THIS time it's necessary!"
You son of a bitch! you made this! You fooled me into thinking this was old, but i realized the music was out of context and is actually modern influenced.
Oh, wow. It should be stated and pointed out that this a fan made hybrid film mixed with an older one from a hundred years ago that has nothing to do with Batman. Why can and or could no one state this?
+CreeperSlayer I've tried telling them for years but the world is full of Comic Book Guys that want to rush out and show how erudite they are without clicking the little "show more" thing that explains everything and helpfully lists sources. I mean, yes. No kidding. We KNOW when Batman was created. The ingredients list is right there!
Don't copyrights take a 100 years to expire? (I think this is at least true for books.) If that's also true for films then I wish I lived in 2100. All the cool stuff could be used. films arent even around for 100 years yet. Well, not really anyway. You know what I mean.
@JBalmoreS It's obvious most of the people looking at this know very little about Batman OR movies. 1st, despite what the title says, Batman wasn't created until 1938 and didn't make his 1st comic book appearance until 1939. So how could there have been a movie made for Batman in the '20s? 2nd, by 1939 there was no such thing as silent films anymore. They had long been replaced by sound. People need to brush up on their history.
I listen to this soundtrack almost everynight. Hits best at 1 in the morning. Mysterious and eerie

Fantastic! Now everyone can see where Bob Kane and Bil Finger got their inspiration from! Thank you!
This is how Batman should be scary and terrifying a silent agent of the night
Pure genius. Perfectly planned & executed.
The True Birth of The Dark Knight
Genius stuff! Captures MORE of the flavor and spirit of the original character than most interpretations.
Quite dark and atmospheric, cool!
Absolutely brilliant. And I am not just gabbing here. This film feels authentic and captures the feel of a silent film to the last detail. You should be proud
This is awesomely well done. The Batman still topped this .
What a shock that something with an 185 million budget topped an old video made over a week by one guy for nothing.
Amazing! Absolutely love this.
No holly wood no more other copy cat woods 8
Really one of the few creative finds on UA-cam. Lovin' it so far.
This is great.
Even now the Bat is scary looking. And making an inspiration for Batman makes him even cooler.
The music at the beginning is so beautiful.
I love Batman! I love silent movies! This is like they had a child! And I love this child!
If F.W Murnau made a Batman film, it would look like this. Man, you should totally try to scrape together a budget and film your own Gotham by Gaslight type of fanflick. this is the most eerie and chilling film i may ever see
This is great! I also too think of the Scarlet Pimpernel and Zorro. I know u r aware for sure! Thanks for the great video!
Stunning, chilling, and elusive. This piece was awesome.
the bat mirrors the fear in us to face the evil
NOIR BATMAN!!
+mychael stewart Batman always had a bit of the noir in it anyway, although modernized these days...
Music is so beautiful and ominous. Please make a release of it
Nice job. I particularly like the written cards. I show clips of silents in classes and yours look like the real deal.
Wow, this Batman is WAAAAAAAAAAY out there, look at the ears, man, silent movies always creep me out, scary, dark ones do, its just, unsettling really.
So nice that you gave proper credit to Bill Finger, the true creator of Batman! I just wish DC/Warner did the same...
DC Comics was founded in 1934. So there is no way that the Batman we all know came before this. This is I believe was The Bat Whispers. A 1930's film that helped inspired Batman. Although I could be completely wrong on this.
Well done. It took me too long to see this upload.
Haven't watched this in a while....still great
Exactly, the movie inspired the comic years later
No, this a mock up.
Then...Hoodlum!
Lol
Cool vid. Very creative concept. And creepy atmosphere.
its a fan film made in that style.......
Dude, this is BRILLIANT!!! And well done, sir!!
A Legend is born. 0:00
Intriguing and fascinating!
Bob Kane said that he was inspired by the 1926 movie The Bat (directed by Roland West). The Bat-Light signal is from this movie.
Lovely effort but rather heavy on the title cards--
Haha, I like how with the april fool's prank, you can make the silent movie even more silent movier.
this is cool
nicely moody and evocative.
good work boys.. hope there is more....................
Part 5 is in the live version: ua-cam.com/video/j6LtbEWwcfc/v-deo.html
Most excellent. My compliments!
so this movie actualy exsists....and is what inspired the creation of batman by bob kane?
wow, interresting indeed
Those darlings of the drone world, Palker and Perkowski. Maybe a cat sitting on the synth.
Amazing job. Congrats.
this is sort of eerie
I'm in love with this soundtrack, does it have an official release?
Ooo, good idea.
Bruh if batman was first made this way then that would be really cool
It's funny how if you really go back to the beginning (I know these clips aren't actually from a Batman anything)...it's so obvious how Batman probably would work best in a 1930s setting like The Shadow or Dick Tracy..
Nice lighting
AaaWONDERFUL!!!
@cha5 yeah, it was only two things that made him change: 1. Concerned parents 2. Being able to reuse villains after they're "defeated." Also, these movies came before the comics.
still, very good find
brilliant, congrats... and thank you.
Fortunately for you the copyrights for most of these classic films have expired -- I think. The Man Who Laughs and Caligari remain among my favorites. I have never seen The Bat. I hope to someday.
Awesome!
great!
I heartly agree with you.
Great!!
Merci beaityfull
This is the movie that inspired Bob Kane of doing batman.
the Joker's from the man who laughed and the the bat is from the silent shadow of the bat they were both 1920s horror movie Bob Kane based The Joker and Batman someone obviously put together the the footage from several movies he based villains and Batman off of
well. obviously. It says that all in the "info." Why can't people just read the "info" for... info.
All that info comes from Bob Kane of course, thruth is that Bill finger made the joker based on the concepts of another artist Jerry Robinson. When I read this it made me wonder what Bob Kane actually did for Batman, Not allot it seems.

The background music, what is it? Great job on the video, really really well done.
what's the ambient music? Sounds great, somthing I really want to see in a batman movie.
You already have the theatrical movies 1989-2008 for that.
watching this with the youtube 1911 thing makes it funny x)
I think it would be cool if you let a download link for the soundtrack on this chapter, it is awesome :)
Wow awesome, so film noir. I would tag that too :)

uma dúvida?
termina na parte 04 o filme??
até mais
You son of a bitch! you made this! You fooled me into thinking this was old, but i realized the music was out of context and is actually modern influenced.
wow.
It couldn't be a Batman Movie of 1920... because Batman was created by Bob Kane in 1939!!!
that bat logo..look carefully and you will see its the outline of a dress
Bob Kane wasn't THAT original though LoL
I thought there was no Batman before the DC-Comics....
I guess I was totally wrong...
Oh, wow. It should be stated and pointed out that this a fan made hybrid film mixed with an older one from a hundred years ago that has nothing to do with Batman. Why can and or could no one state this?
I mean, it's stated in the info above and the films used are documented. How dare you! HMPFF!
I'm vengeance
did this movie really came out in 1920???
He's a killer? He doesn't seem like one to me.
Batman was created in 1940
You're probably thinking or Shadow Man, which Batman as based off of.
The shadow. Not Shadowman lol
1939
It's me or Bruce Wayne's mother is really really older than his father?
i think he was createtd in 1929 but it became famous in da 30s
...ooookkkkkaaayyy....lol
GUYS LOOK AT THE DESCRIPTION
+CreeperSlayer I've tried telling them for years but the world is full of Comic Book Guys that want to rush out and show how erudite they are without clicking the little "show more" thing that explains everything and helpfully lists sources. +terminal pictures/Andre Perkowski BTW dude this is amazing great job
no im saying your fact is wrong, the batman came earlier then this fan movie. and in 1939 was when batman came
they made batman earlier, as a sideshow comic in Detective Comics #27 1939. get your facts straight
Did you make this music? If you did I would love to hear a high quality or remastered version of it
It's a good idea
@@andreperkowski2082 Please do it
Pass the cheese

how old is Bat-man?
Melhor
i thought the batman debut around the 40's or 50's? is batman really that old to be in the 1920's?
when was this made?
