Well, you certainly missed one of the best to ever play (Straight Pool, 9-Ball, 8-Ball). But to catch Mike as he should be, you would need to go back to the 70s, 80s. His cue did the talking back then.

Mr. Sigel can certainly talk the talk. Unfortunately, he can't walk the walk.Watching the many matches involving Efren over the years, Efren has always been centered, unperturbed and proven his command of the game over and over. El es asombroso!
Legitimately. The most un-centered I have ever seen him was the last 15 mins of Color of Money against Earl Strickland, and it took 225 racks to get there, lol.
I don't think there can be a greater pool player then Efren 'The Bata' Rayes...not only because he is a master of the game but his humility is something that amazes me the most...Being from India I grew up idolizing Sachin Tendulkar as a sportsman...Being a lover and being utterly passionate about pool j idolize Efren...My God what a player he is...

I was going a bit nuts everytime they said something about efren always having easy shots. Well yea... that’s because he is extremely good at cue ball placement.
I always love to watch Efren play pool. Hours I would watch videos off him. He always say he's lucky. Watch him play jus once and u know he is on a different level with this game. Very skilled pool player. Humble ...composed man... that he is.
You can tell when he makes a ' lucky' shot and it's not very often. In 8 ball you rarely make a lucky shot because you have to call your shot. Occasionally you can get a 'lucky' bounce and end up with good positioning for the next shot but that should even itself out during a given match. Efren is tremendously humble, I think everyone agrees with that. If he says that he got lucky, usually it's humility speaking. He makes his own 'luck' by the way he handles the cue and the cue ball.
"Oh! Did you see how Reyes almost missed that shot!?!?" . . . and that shot and that shot and that shot which all went in. "I dont really like how he hit that shot . ." Which also went in. But . . "Did you see Mike make that shot!!!!! Wooooowwwweeee! He's a great player!" "He sure is!" Of course he lost, but . . .
Pockets MacCartney lmao yup u are right lol they gave all the credit to Mike but not efren and that lady talking about she would of taken other shots like come on that why she’s not playing
1:08:20 Efren misses a difficult angled shot into a tight pocket and the announcers gasp and say he missed 'a layup' and start talking about his Lasik surgery. But when Mike misses the same shot it's 'These difficult shots are so tough. Especially when you've been sitting for so long'. x.X0)
That is the thing I have always loved about Reyes He is undoubtedly one of the greatest, if not the greatest player of all time, but unlike the other greats, he is a categorically humble and nice guy. Even he if he were not a good pool player, I would love to sit down and have a beer with him because he seems that cool
Because he wins despite his handicap with the breaks and his lower accuracy than some of the other guys, he is the GOAT. It requires extra skill in the other areas to make up for that. Also, his magic shots of course, and his humility and professionalism.
Mike hasn’t played in 10 years. He is far from being one of the two best players in the world. And he shouldn’t be talking while Efren is shooting. Low class shark move. Efren is dumping, and Mike still can’t win a game.
Efren is a vicious predator at this. The bigger the prize money, the better he gets. He's grown up hustling, gambling, playing under all sorts of pressure. This is just exciting fun for him.
Never could watch Sigel....shakes his head, circles the table a dozen times, mumbles and whines for ten minutes...then misses the shot....rinse....repeat!
..these “announcers” are a joke. They make excuse after excuse for Sigel when fact of the matter he’s missed several easy shots. One more point....both players are mic-ed but you’d never know that Reyes is. He’s a true humble gentleman in stark contrast to Mike the Mouth. And pronouncing Mike Sigel as the greatest living pool player over and over again is tiresome. Many say that honor squarely belonged to Ephren Reyes certainly at that time...
Sports announcers are supposed to be unbiased and equally excited for both players. They constantly belittled Efren’s achievements, didn’t celebrate his difficult shots and in contrast praised Mike up and down for shots that I get at the local bar on a regular basis. They were critiquing Efren Reyes’ shots that he pocketed for not having a crisp sound! Saying that he hit the bumper and shouldn’t have... one time the guy accidentally called him Efram. At 2:22:40 the way they refer to him as a “Pool Hall Rat” feels like a closeted insult towards Reyes before talking again about how Philippino pool players sleep in the pool hall. As “announcers” they argued over and over for Mike’s bad luck but that’s just pool. That’s why you play a shitload of rounds. He didn’t lose purely out of bad luck. He lost cuz he sucks in comparison. It’s embarrassing to listen to them really. Thank god this is a 13-year-old video. Maybe one of them got cancer
Yes and even Bustamante, Archer, and Strickland wouldve been better competitors for Effren here. It blows my mind how IPT first had Loree and Mike square off when Mike was retired and Loree is not the best. Now here Mike bypasses all competitors and again is competing doe top dollar. Im convinced John Trudeau was in love with Mike
Efren is definitely the greatest pool player ever... he relies very little on luck. The luck was when he 1st stumbled upon a pool table and we get to witness his pure greatness😊
Absolutely true. Efren Reyes wouldn't be a Hall of Famer if he isn't a great, or the greatest, player. And, it's his skill, passion, and composure that make him a great and world-renown champion pool player. The very humble Efren Reyes is on another level. These two other make commentators are so disappointing; the female commentator did better because she was a good pool player so she understands.

The air humidity doens't seem to effect Efren Reyes's play.
If Mike put in as much action with his queue as he dose with his mouth he would win every frame. Efren just gets on with it without telling everyone how good he is, he just shows us how good he is.
Agreed. And let's be honest here, this was Efren at about 75% of his "typical" efficiency, and he STILL wiped the floor with him. I'd like to think this match was the POOL GOD'S way of .."Shhhhh-ing" the silly talk about WHO the actual GOAT of Pool is?? I'll refer to the Pros, the players who have battled both these legends for decades, when polled... answered with a resounding 83% of them stating Efren Reyes as the Greatest of all time. Couldn't agree more. Heck, even Earl the Pearl, arguably the Greatest 9 Ball player of all-time and certainly not a guy known for complimenting his peers , admitted that Efren Reyes is the one and only GOAT. Good enough for me...
Earl Strickland is one of the gretest of all time, atleast top 5 in my book says "Efren Reyes is the GOAT" in many occasions even in their prime years and said "I played everyone, and Efren is simply the GOAT".. "I learned from him everytime we play".. Strickland is so proud but he doesn't lie about the GOAT"..

hahaha no doubt, do they think this is the first pool game the tv watchers have ever seen? They are awful, they should stick to commentating bingo games.
I was thinking the same thing the whole time. Sigel was retired for 10 years so he could claim to be the king for 10 years while knowing that Efren could beat him the whole time he was sitting on the title. Efren forever!
He should have been penalized for this talk-a-thon. That's just plain BS. It was obvious he was trying to get into Efren's head. Should never have been allowed.
Talking and distracting (crying) all this is not my fault. He couldn’t make a bank shot to save his life. Yes Mike your game was a embarrassment. I even got why don’t they tell this guy to shut the F up. I hate playing guys like him they can’t beat you with their skills so they use their mouths.
Bad choice of commentators. Ironically, if Billy Incardona and Nick Varner, who were the two people sitting in Mike Sigel's corner, did the commentary, it would have been a lot less biased and a lot more knowledgeable.
I just started watching Pro pool. I've quickly adopted Efren as my favorite player. He seems to know the game thoroughly! These people should spell his name correctly.
commentators were extremely bias.. efren miss, "was a relatively easy shot".. sigel makes a ball, "very great shot"... next time get some non-bitchy commentators..
This is for big money, he’s not sharking no one. He’s just pissed, and at least it’s in his own atmosphere. He’s not like Strickland. So relax, it isn’t that bad.
If excuses could win a pool tournament, Sigel would have won every game! Mr. Rayes lets his cue do the talking for him. What a class act. The victory shout after sinking the 8 in the final set was priceless.
Mike Sigel is the biggest cry-baby I've ever seen on a pool table or any where else!. He also used all that gamesmanship talk to try and win......Low down bum! In my mind he wasn't even in the top ten ever. What really galls me is to watch Cardonnis and Varner kiss his ass all thru the match. And do you hear our cute little bunny Lori Jon pullin for Efren....never. She kissed Sigel on the ass (both cheeks) at least twice during each rack. She learned some new words before the match, like, ABSOLUTELY AND ABSOLUTLEY AND ABSOLUTLEY, YADA, YADA, YADA. Her whole performance make me sick to my stomach and I''m from Greenville, SC but I'll never buy a pool table from her! I got mine in 1980 !!!!!
This is back when they were trying to appeal to the masses to make pool a more viewed sport. They fucked this up with thier pick of commentators and its apparent.
The commentary during this match leaves much to be desired. It feels like part arm-chair psychiatrist combined with incompetent over opinionated jibber-jabber.
Hitting the 7 ball out of the way for the 8, in the 2nd set is the brilliance of Efren. The commentators said he did not want to, but Efren was 4 shots ahead.
Before kind of retiring from pro billiards in around 1989ish, Mike played Efren quite a bit. Different outcomes back then. What would one expect from someone having been out of pro pool on a regular basis so long?
@@uvafan940 he said he's playing "perfect" and that he ran 8 racks prior to the match. Whether you've been retired from competitive pool or not, doesn't change the fact that he's sorry excuse of a pro player. His form is just as bad if not worse than his mouth! At the end of the first set and at the beginning of the 2nd set, he ran his mouth so much that he should've gotten some sort of penalty by the referee. Hi Guys I am Scottish, play more snooker than pool, I don't know if it is just the mike picking up Sigel talking or if Efren can hear Sigel talking while he plays, but either the ref should speak to him to be quiet or Efren should "gie him a Glesga kiss" but Efren is doing it his way and showing skill/class way better than mouthing off.....go Efren, would love to have your skill & temprement.
Sigel displayed nonstop, incessant, rude behavior...continued running his mouth even as Efren was shooting. Unbelievably unprofessional...Efren is the gold standard of pool comportment.
I was yelling back at my screen during the entire match. 8-0 in the first set. All set long he's downplaying Ef's route difficulty. Mike is a nutcase.... And he's rubbing off on me, while I watched the match. Mike had his shiny new break stick. Hasn't broken a rack through rack 10.
I love watching a Mouth get bent over the table. tbh, VERY FEW of his shots were simple through the 10th rack. Lots of married balls. Gotta be tough to watch Efren BASICALLY run 7-ish racks out of 10.
Love the announcers explaining how "the best player on the planet" isn't winning because he had some hard shots and the table isn't laying out perfectly for him.

@ben bucy but efren is more impressive, because its tight and need a right amount of force control on the cue or else it will jist bounce out. and it threads through 4 balls

First time of have seen Mike Segal play. I'm not impressed with him or his game. Efron on the other hand....10/10.
Well, you certainly missed one of the best to ever play (Straight Pool, 9-Ball, 8-Ball). But to catch Mike as he should be, you would need to go back to the 70s, 80s. His cue did the talking back then.
Yeah, this is a mike who had not played competitively for many years at that point...I think he was making sticks or selling sticks or something.
Like the other guy said, 70s 80s mike would have been a lot more competitive.
Ok, people, here is sigel beating efren 11-8 in 9ball all the way back in 1988 ua-cam.com/video/Id4RKsCO68Q/v-deo.html.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE
Yes thats the goal of the game. Get what is easy.
Fcking Exactly!!!!
Problem also, is to even find a Hard shot for Efren.
TOTALLY AGREE!!
Amazing down to earth pool player Efren is. At this point of his career he can call himself the GOAT but chooses to say “ I GOT LUCKY “ 😂
efren is very humble not like mike the mouth who keeps on talking but he is no match to efren!!

He’s the greatest pool player of all time
Efren Reyes is the greatest pool player of all time
Because he wins despite his handicap with the breaks and his lower accuracy than some of the other guys, he is the GOAT. It requires extra skill in the other areas to make up for that. Also, his magic shots of course, and his humility and professionalism.
what are you talking he is not good a pool player ?! he is the best pool player until now..!
The two commentators appeared to be cheerleaders for mike and they sound funny. I hope they already realized that efren is the GOAT.
Mike was talking. Efren was playing :D
And the commentator kept making golf comparisons
Mike hasn’t played in 10 years. He is far from being one of the two best players in the world. And he shouldn’t be talking while Efren is shooting. Low class shark move. Efren is dumping, and Mike still can’t win a game.
Yeah, i feel like that was an insult to Efren, he is talking and talking while Efren takes his shot.
Efren is a vicious predator at this. The bigger the prize money, the better he gets. He's grown up hustling, gambling, playing under all sorts of pressure. This is just exciting fun for him.
I'm 2 years late but I have to say, I did not think of that. You summed it up very well.

Gavin Hadley I CERTAINLY AGREE WITH YOU
Gavin Hadley Mike talked more than he played he doesnt have to explain anything to the audience just zip it and miss it 😂
Sports announcers are supposed to be unbiased and equally excited for both players.
Well, they are never as good as those two players.

Efren Reyes The Legend
Efren is definitely the greatest pool player ever... he relies very little on luck. The luck was when he 1st stumbled upon a pool table and we get to witness his pure greatness😊
They called it luck...Sir Efren called it the fruit of passion, dedication and long time preparation.
Absolutely true. Efren Reyes wouldn't be a Hall of Famer if he isn't a great, or the greatest, player. And, it's his skill, passion, and composure that make him a great and world-renown champion pool player. The very humble Efren Reyes is on another level.
