I must say 60 minutes give vibe of vintage television... which is great to watch
I hate horse racing! Poor horses.
I know, right? I said a prayer for every horse I saw in this video that fell down while racing. It tore my heart up! I'm so glad they're focusing on this travesty. Actually, the way to put the total kibosh on it all is to ban horse racing, which should be done.
Money and religion are the root of all evil.
Unfortunately the breakdowns are part of thoroughbred racing. It has nothing to do with doping. It has to do with the breeding, track surface and their gate. Hard race tracks, fatigue, lending on one leg will cause break downs, especially if there’s soreness involved. That brings us to another subject. Medicine in racing. There’s some views that administering some pain medication like aleve, advil, ect would help the horse be less sore going into a race there by having a sounder horse performing and less chance of a breakdown. It is a conundrum.

The horses at the tracks are only out for about an hour a day for training, they are mostly treated like the greyhounds, there is no retirement pasture for most of them.💔

Not sure who this official speaking about horse racing doping is, but I can tell you if you use illegal drugs and win or the stewards randomly test a horse in a race. That drug will be detected and the perpetrators will be prosecuted. The purse won will be returned and the trainers/owners will be fined and or suspended

@@spicyirwin5835 what they are doing is, connect the drugs with the breakdowns. To me with extensive experience, I can say that drugs have a minimal effect on breakdowns, .1%. Thoroughbreds are prone to breakdowns because of their gate. Lending on one leg while running at top speed will break horses down especially if they are sore going into a race. Harness horses on the other hand have very minimal breakdowns, the reason is harness horses have a smooth gait and they always lend on two feet
I think you missed part of the ending of the episode, they change the chemical so it cannot be tested for because its unknown, its an arms race just like any other its an ongoing back and fourth figuring out what people are doing, then figuring how to get past the people who check

60 Minutes is one of the most reputable investigative reportage programs in the world. They have built this reputation over decades. They're not like FB or Twitter X in the sense that they are REQUIRED to adhere to the SPJ code of ethics.
They also have to make sure what they report is true, or else they and their parent company are subject to massive multimillion-dollar law suits.
To dismiss their work as "propaganda" within minutes of watching, without checking, is not only inaccurate, it's lazy.
