      Simmons mixed with Linndrum and some real drums/cymbals as well. Nobody was doing this stuff until Mutt did it!

    Could you please tell us what did you use: samples, gated reverb (sidechain-controlled? what settings?), followed by plate or room reverb?

      I will make a video on how I get my sound soon. Here is an abbreviated version; kick is sampled from the beginning of excitable, snare is sampled from the live PSSOM multitracks with a little extra top end, hi hats are sampled from Pyromania multitracks (low, med, and high velocities with an open hi hat sound as well), cymbals are just generic panned right left and middle, toms are sampled from pyromania multitracks, ride cymbal is generic with some ping-ey eq, assorted sounds from Love bites are all from Linndrum which has a million free emulators and sounds on the internet. I put a single reverb over entire drum track to give everything a little more size and sometimes I add some tape noise for vintage sounds. It took me a while to make these given I have zero multitracks to work from, and I was hoping to sell them for cheap so people can just use them straight away, but I can’t find a free service to use

      @@backslash68 good luck! it isn't that hard if you know how to chop audio and save it. Leppard is one of the easiest to recreate because it is aligned to a grid and unnatural sounding.

      Hey mate desperately trying to put together a hysteria sounding kit for some gig we got coming up, whereabouts do I find the pssom live multitracks for the snare and the pyromania multitracks for the toms? I can’t seem to find them anywhere closest I could find was photograph multitracks on mixthemusic…

      you can actually google what drum modules he used during these eras and the samples are readily available and for legal download. Just throw some gated reverb on the snare and a plate on the room and you will get close with those samples.

    • @MrNEWDY
      @MrNEWDY 3 роки тому +1

      by this time he had already lost his arm i believe so these are all triggered if memory serves me correctly

    • @nathaneilpeet1530
      @nathaneilpeet1530 3 роки тому

      @@MrNEWDY You are correct. The Hysteria album show cased Rick Allen playing to triggers. Primarily due to the loss of his arm. Pyromania was the first record that featured the drum machine for recordings. (Could be wrong on that)

    • @MrNEWDY
      @MrNEWDY 3 роки тому +1

      @@nathaneilpeet1530 I believe you are correct. I've seen youtube videos showing his live set up and you get a break down a bit on work flow and modules he uses. Honestly though some simmons, linn drum, dmx and and other samples from that era will get you the sound you are after.
      Samples of these units have been free legally online forever, I got pretty much every sampler's samples from drum machines through the 90s and you can emulate these drums pretty easy. The key is the gated reverb and layering the kick and snare samples.

    • @littmus32ify
      @littmus32ify 3 роки тому

      @@MrNEWDY When Rick played live, yes, they were all triggered. For recording, I remember reading the drums were all sampled into a Fairlight Sampler unit. No live drums were on the record- only the cymbals were real. There's some great interviews from the engineer of that record out there.

    • @tanneryordan
      @tanneryordan  3 роки тому +2

      It was after. The drums were almost completely recorded by drum machines anyway so there was little involvement from Rick I can assume.

    Mutt probably had to work over and over and over to get Ric to play such a simple beat. Kinda like reverse Bob Ezrin/Peter Criss.

    • @tanneryordan
      @tanneryordan  3 роки тому +1

      I think it has gone on record that Rick didn't actually play anything other than the cymbals for studio tracks after High and dry. I'm assuming mutt would lay down the snares and kicks with the drum machines and Rick would play along with these tracks like a metronome. I have replicated this method on my most recent Pyromania track reproduction

      @@tanneryordan , wow. I never knew that. No wonder.

    • @littmus32ify
      @littmus32ify 3 роки тому

      @@tanneryordan Yeah, the engineer sampled a bunch of real snares and bass drums until Mutt was happy with one of each. Then they detuned the pitch of them. The band recorded over click tracks and the drums (from a Fairlight Sampler) were added in last after chopping up and rearranging the songs. Tanner's right, the cymbals (and high hat) were recorded live.

    • @tanneryordan
      @tanneryordan  3 роки тому +1

      @@littmus32ify Pyromania cymbals were unquestionably recorded live. When it comes to Hysteria, I believe they did the same thing, though I think they used the sampler to repeat hi hat patterns and such throughout the songs.

    • @littmus32ify
      @littmus32ify 3 роки тому

      @@tanneryordan I think you're right for Hysteria's cymbals/high hat. The cymbals especially are far too consistent. One crash is panned right and one is panned left. Each sounds identical with each crash. Pyro has a more "live" sound to them. I wish they would rerecord the drums in Pyro, could never stand the sound of them.
