I just got mine today - initial thoughts are in line with yours. IMO, the only usable channel is the "Crunch" channel. The cab sim that's built in is not fantastic which is surprising because Guillaume typically will use his 4X12 Marshall for the default sound for all the Two Notes gear (which does sound fantastic). I used with the the Wall of Sound plugin and my Two Notes Captor X, and it came to life. It came to life with my pedalboard as well. To play with it live, I plan on running it with a cab sim and my pedalboard. I just wish I could get this box with the crunch channel only and an onboard IR loader. Lastly, I replaced the preamp tube with a Wathen Cryotone 7025WC, and changing the preamp tube made a NOTICEABLE difference. I tubed swapped with several tubes, and the top end treble and upper mids as well as the characteristics of the distortion were very significantly impacted changing from tube to tube.
Hey Derek. Thx for the comment. I’ve been playing mine every day since the day I got it which I’d say is about 6-8 weeks now. It’s an incredibly picky unit when it comes to input and output levels, different guitars, different gain and volume settings. I still couldn’t even make a call on how exactly to run it. It’s very very sensitive. Having said that I’ve gotten some absolutely stellar tones out of it. So I’m not knocking it, but it’s hard to use for sure. I’ve started using wall of sound too and gotten some great results but again it’s very complicated. There are a lot of tweakable parameters which makes settling in a tone hard. I think I’ve had the best results with the in board speaker sim to be honest. With the right guitar, pedal in from t and reverb it can sound really great. I’m going to be making a video about recording with it this week. Both with and without wall of sound.
@@TheGuitarEffect I've been toying with mine, and I found that putting a compressor in the effects loop is helpful for overall warmth. Using the Cali 76. The only useable tone I'm getting is the clean with the gain cranked, then adding stomp boxes at the front end AND using Wall of Sound or Captor X. It would be great if they had put either onboard reverb or allowed you to add a slew of switchable cabinet IRs to choose from/add reverb and compression onto those. I'm not giving up on it, but in terms of downsizing/leaving behind my amp top is an option just yet. Thanks for your reply.
Looks kind of similar to the tech 21 tri-ac but with more options. If you find the clean channel too sterile, you could look at using channel 2 for your clean and scaling back the gain a lot. Not sure if it cleans up enough though.
Hey Jack. Thx for the comment. Yeah that does work to a certain extent alright. Recently I’ve been adding the love pedal Amp11 in front of the clean channel and that works well too.
Hey rob. Just came across your channel while looking at videos of the revolt. I didnt realise you had this. Great production quality. Sound and video quality are excellent. Ive been very tempted to pick one of these up myself since they came out. I'm a fan of a simple analog preamp that you can just quickly dial in and tweak rather than flicking through menus and parameter settings. This thing seems to really divide people, ive heard a few decent demos and some truely dreadful ones if im honest. On paper the revolt would be ideal for what i want. Yours is definitely one of the best demos ive heard of this unit. Im looking forward to hearing your future videos on it. Im still a little on the fence. But i still think this and my HXFX would make for a very tidy fly rig that could go direct and also into the fx return of an amp when needs be
Hey Philip. Thx for the kind words mate. Very much appreciated. I’ve had the channel for 3 years now. Pretty happy with where it’s at but finding the time with the family and bands is a challenge! So regarding the revolt. I reckon it’s a winner. The clean channel is a little sterile (as in it doesn’t really break up in a mega pleasing way) but I reckon in a wedding / function band setting it would be perfect. I don’t do that gig anymore so I’d prefer a little more personality on the clean channel but there are ways around that. Take a look at this. It’s my current HX effects board. I use it for gigging direct or through an amp or recently both at a festival where I went to an amp for onstage monitoring and the IR200 for front of house. ua-cam.com/video/movDPi03mMo/v-deo.htmlsi=raWZiNpLYJ3s8DDl
@@TheGuitarEffect yeah I’d imagine you could stick an EP boost or a KOT in front to give it a little hair. Have you tried it with any hotter pickups? Those bareknuckles in your strat would be pretty low output. But your demo sounds a lot less harsh and shrill than others I’ve watched. I’d never never fully make up my mind on a product based solely on demos. So many variables . But if a particular unit is getting very mixed reviews it does make it harder to make a decision to take a punt on something
Hey Philip. So yeah I’ve tried it with humbuckers. (Low output humbuckers though) and it’s still not really breaking up meaningfully. It does break up with the boost, but the boost has an EQ thing going on that works great on the dirty channels but it’s a bit odd in the clean channel. To be honest I think the clean channel is neutral so that you CAN style it with a pedal. Like, I reckon that’s the idea. If you ever want to borrow it you are welcome. Only thing is I use it for making demos so I couldn’t be without it for more than a few days and I think you’re in Sligo right. As it happens I’m going on holiday on Sunday so you can borrow it for the week if you can collect it and drop it back.
@@TheGuitarEffectYou're too kind. I'm based in Galway. I think it might be worth taking a punt on. And if I really didn't bond with it I could always send it back.
Hey. Thx for the comment. So I can’t say that I had that experience. Like I said I’m not into the particular choice they made for the clean channel, thoygh I’m starting to get my head around it now. But I do really like the sound of the other two channels. I do t have enough experience with the soldano sound to say it’s on the money but in terms of what I would want both to do I really like them.
SO much tube talk, tube compression, tube sound jesus! It's all about the clipping and where it is in relation to the eq circuits and other clipping stages, no tube is responsible for the "that sort of... that kinda tube compression" sound alone.
Hey. Thx for the very angry comment. I don’t understand electronics. I’m an artist, not an engineer. But I do understand the difference that I attribute to the difference between a tube preamp and say a solid state preamp or a digital preamp. And this feels like an analog tube preamp. I’m attributing that yo the use of the tube. So your saying they the tube doesn’t contribute to the tone and it’s a gimmick and two notes are lying to us?

Hey man, great review, can't wait for midi section review, cheers
Hey Pedro. Thx for the comment. I’ll do that before the entire home rig section so. Will be two weeks

I found it to be rough and nasty and no where nere the origionals....you were correct with sterile.
