I do see what you mean, it does seem excessive 🤣! I have actually found it helps the necklace stay in place during transit and helps keep the metal from being exposed to air and chemicals which can affect the metal finish. I actually just found biodegradable ones that will be my next purchase and that will definitely make me feel better about them! 💖💖
