Not unknown to me... had this album since it first came out. LOVE this track... and, indeed, EVERY track on the "Low Budget" album... Imho, the Kinks' BEST album.
Yet another comment by someone who's too young to understand the English language. The Kinks have NEVER been underrated. On the contrary, they've always been very HIGHLY rated. What you actually mean is "None of my friends or other people of my age group seem to have heard of them, but I have coz I'm really clued up."
I went on the forums, and the consensus is: Ray lifted it (the riff). It IS Jumping Jack Flash. If you were a guitar player, you'd know. People try to say it's inverted, or some other nonsense, but it's not. Speed and key don't matter. It was a goof; a spoof. That's just how clever Ray Davies is.
Didn't realize that til now, thank you. The spoof on JJF seems just the sort of goof Ray Davies would pull. There's tongue-in-cheek humor running through many Kinks songs 😅
Was in the orange box hardware store today and this song came overhead. I can't believe It. "This Captain America Calling..." Rocked out to this tune in High School. Now I can't get it out of my head and I love it!!!

SMoke on tHE water?? You're not a musician, are you? Yes, J.J. Flash is the transition riff for the chorus. THe boys were takin the piss oftern enough. I'd like to know, though. Somebody ask Ray or Keef.
In late 70s, America was really struggling. I lived it. Quite honestly, what is happening today is probably a bit worse and VERY similar. This song by Davies, a Brit, couldn't have been more spot on. Truly wonder what he thinks today of what is happening here. The West is in decline. Just like back then.
@@susandinnocenzo5820 Nah. Listen to the main riffs of all three songs more closely. This song is very much like a slower tempo Jumpin' Jack Flash. The first two notes of Satisfaction are OK, then it deviates after that.
It IS Jumpin Jack Flash, and it's a transition riff, not the opener. Don't know how it made it into a Kinks song, but someone ask Ray if he wrote it and gave it to The Stones, or he put it on tape, called Mick up, and said 'Hey, can I use this?'. They all knew each other. I never heard anyone ask Ray about it, but I cued it up today just to make sure it's J.J. Flash. This is a helluva piece of writing, with the song sections and the changes. This is Kinks 15 years in or something. Mature stage. Ray would occasionally insert Beatles and Stones references in songs, so he could just be quoting Mick and Keef, then again, he was more prolific than most, so he wrote songs other people covered that he didn't even record. Maybe it's a Dave Riff. SOMEBODY ASK HIM WHILE HE'S STILL ON THE PLANET!!

Depends who wrote the riff. Could've been Ray. And he gave it to the stone. Or.. he used it, called up Mick and said 'Is this okay, mate?' I wish some interviewer would ask him.
This song needs to be played by the new administration to remind the world the adults are back in charge in America and they better get their house in order because we will not be saving them any time soon
Love this track. Unknown by many music listeners...that is so sad:(
Not me. Had it when it came it. And the live album .
I will never forget this incredible music

This was one of the Kinks finest albums.
Still it is top notch album
This is pure talent, imagination and a great sond.
Imagination ? This is "Jumpin' Jack Flash'"s guitar riff !
Blues with a twist of Rocking still got it, Give it up for Ray Davies Everyone 🙂👍
Great song, saw Kinks w “Johnny Cougar” opening. in 79 right after this came out. Great show
Yes. Johnny Cougar and the Zones! Great show!

Such underrated band
Not by me. To invent the power chord, get banned from amerrka, then preservation society to muswell...
They aren't. They've been popular since the 1960's.
Underrated by who? Underrated is an overused term. The Kinks are far from it 🤔

Now we can!!!! Trump the man the legend 😂
The lead guitar is sublime.
Dave Davies is a very underrated guitarist.
I saw them in the early 80s with The Romantics as the opening act. Ray performed with a broken leg, still an awesome show.

song got stuck in my head for some reason. damn it. so great
ENGLISH LORD RAY DAVIES, A 3 CHORD DRUGGY WHO OWNS YOU, IS STILL YOUR LORD AND MASTER, YOU DOORMAT.............

Ray Davies was always known for shameless plagiarism. He got away with it because he was so respected.
