I knew the song "Set me on fire" from Sonia's 1993 album "Better the devil you know" but didn't know it was a cover, especially not one by Lisa Stansfield.

Thank you for this upload 👍 35 years already. I was turning three then. Some classics in this list. The Freddie and Montserrat duet is DIVINE! I am surprised 'Unchain My Heart' wasn't a bigger hit. 1987 is a strong year musically. Whitney Houston was on fire in this era. The Eroll Brown song could have been a big hit, perhaps if Luther or Alexander O'Neal sang it, it'd have been more known. The Tams song....yeah the title means sex in UK slang lol. The lead singer of Johnny Hates Jazz could easily be someone from now how his image looks. Never understood why Princess never became bigger. She had the whole lot - looks, voice and songs. The Blue Zone song was more or less 'banned' due to the King's Cross fire hence the very low peak. An underrated gem. I do love the Simply Red cover in here. REM one of their classics. The days when Children In Need songs didn't finish in the top echelons of the charts. 'City Lights' was huge in Europe but we rejected it. The video is a bit weird. God this hard to choose favourites as it's so competitive and strong. The Christmas songs I'll put in a separate category and I love them (Fairytale Of New York and Rockin Around The Christmas Tree). As for the non-Xmas ones - my top three are 'Barcelona', 'City Lights' and 'The Way You Make Me Feel'. Whitney, Blue Zone, Wet Wet Wet and Foreigner just misses out.
Maynard Williams was the lead singer of 'Ryder' who represented the UK in ESC 1986. It was a theme tune to a long forgotten TV show called 'Truckers'.

1987 was a pretty good year in general. I turned 21 and I had a great time.

Unchain My Heart was a bigger hit, it just had to wait until 1992, like the Chris Isaak song had to wait until 1991. Oh and, in 1987 I was 12.

@@Beckford4000 Thank you. That explains everything. I know a lot of songs do get second chances and become bigger hits afterwards. A month prior to this chart, 'Welcome To The Jungle' by Guns N Roses made #69 yet was released a year later and made #22.

Well, that must have been the American edition of UK Singles Charts, even Alison Moyet 6:31 sounded more Presleyish than Elvis.
Peak #100 for 3:59 - are you actually joking?
Many 80's children would admit that 6:00 was a song and a clip that touched to tears, bravo Paul (and Francis, as always)!
Never forget Miami Vice, where remix of 6:49 was simply astonishing. 5:54 Lisa, is that you - a star-to-be? 8:33 gone much too soon......

I was 12 in 1987, literally never heard that Paul McCartney song in my life. As for Kirsty, I was heartbroken when she died and to be killed in such a horrific way.

@@Beckford4000 You are being sarcastic surly that you have never heard of: "Once Upon a Long Ago"???? 😲🤦‍♂
Was a really big hit single in UK + in many countries, also on really big hit album: All the Best!
Still plays on radio, Been on many TV documentaries over the years.....etc
I do hope that is a joke, was only on Absolute Radio/Capital FM a few weeks ago.

I had never heard about 80 percent of these songs before, which means that the Brits have a specific taste in music... or had... or whatever.
It's interesting music, though. I think I'm gonna have to check out these songs and artists. I wonder why this music hadn't been played over
    here in Krautland.
