Front wheel drive is perfect for this vehicle. You just marveled at the space inside - that's because all the drive gear is up front. This is a vehicle the US has been waiting for. Now get that EV2 here and soon! These are awesome vehicles. Thanks!
Yep. They did it for the flat load floor. Good choice.
@@josephbradford5930Yes, of course this is the main reason! Difficult to understand? I don't know why!
To be able to make a "cheap" car or better to sell it to a "low" price, it needs to be a little bit simple as the manufacturer wants us to buy a more expensive alternative after all.
Let's say the price would be 25-30,000 USD, which isn't really cheap in my eyes...
People that buy cars in this category (also) want quite big and practical cargo space, and I guess KIA saw a niche here that they want to benefit over the next few years.
The Koreans are not that stupid after all... 🥺😉
It’s not going to happen at this price unless we are considering the basic option with small battery model. FWD is a shame as it will be useless in a snowy conditions. For me it’s a deal breaker. Tesla m3 is still a better choice for the same money as this is what mid/high spec car is going to cost.
Good warranty. Tesla's is a delbreaker
@@10secondsrule FWD is safer in winter than RWD unless you want AWD which is usually more expensive.
Kia and Hyundai are selling a lot of EVs in the U.S. already, specifically the EV9/EV6 for Kia and IONIQ 5 for Hyundai.
This is very much an EX30-esque vehicle from Kia. Very impressive!
I agree, this is a very Practical design. Lots of Room.
Hopefully this car will shake up the market here in the uk, EVs here are far to expensive, unfortunately we have been let down far to often by promise of cheaper EVs. Let’s hope this is the beginning of good long range cheaper EVs
Front wheel drive may account for larger boot space
Best wishes to Shannon. Positive news.😊
EV3 is great and Shanna yes please Sam
This is the EV model that will become a very big seller worldwide. I expect Kia to build the EV3 here in the USA within the next few years.
Likely in Georgia.
Wrong. This thing is Tiny. The size of a Nissan Kicks, actually smaller. Subcompact Crossovers are a tiny market share in the US, and they usually sell for under $25K and start at around $21K. This thing will start at $9K more and it's smaller. It's not going to sell well at all. Heard the same crap with the EV9, and look how few units it sells.
@igotanimac1 You seem confused. This is slightly larger than the Kia Soul and Nissan Kicks, at ~170 inches long and ~73 inches wide. The Kicks sold 53k units last year and Soul sold 56k units last year. Overall the market for this style of vehicle sold approximately 1.8 million cars last year per a quick search.
@@downix No, I'm not confused. You're confused. Kia Soul and Nissan Kicks are slightly smaller in exterior dimensions, but this EV has a massive 80 kWh battery, which shrinks interior space, it has a smaller cargo space than both the Kicks and the Soul.. at 16 cu ft. Legroom is going to be the same, or smaller than a Soul or Kicks. Yes, 50-60K units per year, which is tiny compared to the Compact Crossover segment, which produce well over 200K units per year. for each model like the Rogue, Rav4, CR-V, etc. 1.8 Million? Your'e definitely confused. There are subcompact SUVs and Compact SUVs, Subcompact SUVs do not sell as well as Compact SUVs, definitely not 1.8 million. You seem confused.
@@igotanimac1 Yeah, you're confused.
Yes to Shanna video please!
Love to you all. A simple update would be very nice
FWD is more useful and safer in snow. Matters a lot in Canada. Bolt and Kona were both FWD and they worked well.
Someone who actually knows what they’re talking about 🙂
This looks like a winner to me I would certainly consider buying one of these....
For North America front wheel drive is much better in snow than rear wheel. All our small hatchbacks are front wheel drive. I doubt people here would buy it in a rear wheel drive version.
Front wheel drive is much safer in snow which is important for european market
That should have been right in the 1970th without any traction- / body-control and for unexperienced drivers. Google Kamms circle 😉
really can you explain more about it? i thought RWD is always better in most of cases?
@@leedaq7767 My last few cars went front-wheel, and I've found them safer on snow & ice. I'm not an expert on these things, so I can't explain why. There is also the difference in weight and distribution of weight between ICE and EVs, so I have no idea how the EV is different on snow. But, an ICE on snow is good with front-wheel.
In an ICE car there is generally a lot of weight near the engine, in ice it can be bad to have all the power come from the lighter rear end. Also you're pushing. I've seen it - powerful rear drive performance cars are hopeless in ice, whilst my humble front drive car seems ok.
@@leedaq7767 FWD can help you regain control if your car starts to slide on ice. Just google it
Awesome EV3 for USA!!! South Korea makes great tech. Japan has abandoned EVs and China has been kneecapped in the paint. I ❤️ my awd Ioniq 6.
I’d buy it
Not into SUV’S but I’m really fond on this car, looks great! 🚙
Front wheel drive on an EV is nothing like an ICE. Firstly the torque curve is completely different, being way higher from zero revs. Secondly, you don’t have the high down force created by a very heavy ICE engine and its associated drive train components. You need to drive one to appreciate how bad the torque-steer can be. I have driven the BYD Atto 3 Front WD and it skids all over the place when you accelerate hard. Turning on traction control helps on dry tarmac but can’t eliminate the problem on slippery surfaces. Make sure you test drive the EV3 on a wet road before buying one.
Battery more than makes up for engine weight. Atto 3 is no better nor work than its ICE equivalent. Plus a
The weight is under the car and not just in the front.
As an Atto 3 owner, I can concur with what you say but driven sensibly, the Atto 3 is absolutely fine especially with better after market tyres. I made similar comparisons to you above, referring to a VW Golf GTI as a gas powered, high torque vehicle as an example.
Kia: "People expect crummy handling in generic compact NPC SUVs, so we are giving them more of the same despite the fact that we could easily make it better".
The weight and packaging advantages offered by FWD to ICE platforms all but disappear when building an EV. Instead of innovating and differentiating their product from all the generic FWD-based crossovers on the market, they are resisting change for the sake of resisting change.
Great experience test driving this EV3. Had the niro for 3 years. This blows it out the water in handling and range. New 2025 model ordered for March. Boom..
Yes to Shanna video.
I bought my son a brand new Kia Rio in 2004 for $6000 . Kia was trying to get it's start in the US . This how you do it . By undercutting the competition to get people interested .
Nothing wrong with front wheel drive if torque vectoring is applied well.
It has the added benefit of freeing up rear boot space as there is no rear motor.
$30K for 300+ miles range sounds really good. 👍
We were going to buy the Volvo ex30 but have decided to wait for the EV3 to compare first.
Mate, I cannot imagine what you are going through. I sincerely wish you all the best. Lots of love to you & your family.
Hey / be good to hear from Shannon. All the best to the family and the boys!
Sure, hope she's doing well.
There are advantages with front wheel drive one for instance is driving in snowy conditions I live in Finland obviously winter weather here is hard!
Looks good. NACS charging? And no cameras for FSD?
The mini proved that fwd is a good choice for smaller vehicles plus fwd regen leads to better efficiency.
Front wheel drive is superior in inclement weather. I'll be happy to trade in my 2012 Kia Forte for this car.
EVs are much different than ice rwd . They can get rear weight bias like a Porsche 911 that have superior traction in snow.
A 300+ mile EV for $30,000? I’m in.
Sam, we need affordable home storage batteries every bit as much as we need affordable EVs! Folks that can generate and store their own power will buy EVs, will leave gasoline vehicles behind forever!
Has a rear window screen wiper to
Like the styling. Waiting for a 4.6 meter "EV 5" version of this
So in many ways with the EV3 being FWD, it’s a KIA version of a BYD Atto 3. I find on my Atto 3 that FWD isn’t that much of a problem so long as you don’t try and boot it too much and even with the standard junk tyres replaced with Continentals, you can easily get into torque steer. On my sadly now demised Tesla MY which was RWD, I found the handling much better. Gas powered vehicles such as Golf GTI are great in FWD but EVs ideally should all be at least RWD on the base models. Yes please Sam. A catch up on Shana would be great.
Thanks Sam, an update on Shanna would be great thanks. Sending best wishes
See that bonnet out the front? All things being equal you don't want to be fighting between locating the motor and interior space. You like the big boot? You wouldn't have it so big if you had the motor under the floor there. Makes sense to be front wheel drive.
Front wheel drive in snow states/provinces is superior. Here in Calgary, winter is 6 months. Snow and ice on the road for most of that. Rear wheel drive is a summer car. FWD & AWD is year round.
For me AWD would be best.
From Winnipeg, Manitoba
Kia has always moved in to serve an underserved market. This is not off brand for them. I remember when Jay Leno made fun of them every night on the Tonight Show when they first came to the US but look at them now?
Jay Leno has always treated cars better than people.
A dick
It looks like it is similar to the Bolt EUV in performance. The Bolt is also FWD. I am used to fwd vehicles for wet and winter traction and I looked for a fwd EV. It may be that RWD is better, I haven’t done that research. I’ve purchased fwd SUV’s in the past since that is adequate for mild winters and wet springs. I’m curious how being electric changes the dynamics enough to make rwd better. I understand how it is better for a performance car, but how is it better for an EV daily driver?
Sounds like the EV3 will be excellent. We recently bought a Kia Niro which is really good but the slightly smaller EV3 with good interior space, good boot, great range and top quality software could make this a winner. It is also better/safer, in my view, not to have everything on a central screen and to use buttons. I also love our heads up display.
I am very interested in how Shannon is getting on. It sounds like she is doing the right thing with Keto and Chemo combined, but is it working? I very much hope so.
Are they going to use the shenxing battery from CATL
I keep coming back to this car, the form factor is almost perfect if you exclude the 'table' that would get an employer introuble with worksafe if they made you use a laptop there as alot of commentators are suggesting.
Hopefully the next model has faster charging and v2g.
I have 200km between me and the next big town, at highway speeds.
350+ km to the nearest major airport.
I don't think it'll get near the 600km advertised range on straight burns.
To me, front wheel drive is not an issue, what's much more annoying is the 400V charging limited to 150kW. I have the ioniq5 capable to charge in real at 800V and 230kW , and I don't want less
Words are easy. Manufacturing is hard.
This is what Tesla should be making, but with 800V architecture, higher speed charging and LiPo battery. Come on Elon, give us what we want, not bloody Robotaxis, crazy acceleration and FSD, we don't need those thing. We just want cheap, practical cars like this.
Sorry but Tesla can't make better specs except 0-60 than Kia. Especially after Kia makes in Georgia.
Love to hear how Shanna is doing, we often think of her!
Front wheel drive is fine when engine power is not that big.
It’s 0.1 second slower than a golf GTI , plenty of enough power
All the best wishes to Shanna ..💪💪
Care factor, if it saves cost, rear space and complexity it’ll be alright as fwd. No rwd spin in the wet
Kia is right, most ICE cars in this size and category have front wheel drive. For me it was 10 out of the 12 cars I had until now, and will be so with the next, a BYD Atto3/Yuan Plus.
There will be very little adjusting to do from my current car, a Honda HR-V.
Front wheel drive on an EV is nothing like an ICE. Firstly the torque curve is completely different, being way higher from zero revs. Secondly, you don’t have the high down force created by a very heavy ICE engine and its associated drive train components. Have you tried rear wheel drive in snow? Try it and you will see why one needs front or all wheel drive. Good decision.
Kia is catching Toyota here in New Zealand, it is only a matter of time when they will be right up there with them.
The AWD GT is the one that is of interest. Also, the Rivian R3 and R3x are interesting.
Yes to Shannon video
Definitely want an update on Shannon. Haven't heard a report in many months, but I probably have missed them.
I’m in Toronto and I swear I saw that on the road today. It was a modern looking Kia EV that looked attractive and not ugly like the Niro, which I know well and see all the time. If it’s not for sale yet, possible I got lucky and saw a prototype release, or maybe something else, but I swear it was that. We have lots of EVs per capita in Toronto, though not like Norway.
I would definitely consider this as a second vehicle. A gas one for long trips, this electric one for around town.
Front wheel drive has much more effective regen, because it has all the weight of the car pushing down on the motor during braking (slowing down)!
When regenning in a rear wheel drive car, the rear end is lightened in the act of slowing down meaning less energy is regained through the motor!
I drive a Kia EV with front wheel drive and its not an issue i ever think about, though after 15k miles the front tyres have worn quite a bit but that's probably because I enjoy occasionally stomping on the accelerator
I really like the EV3 as a concept and the cost is reasonable. I would strongly consider one of those at that price-point. If they could make a less bizarre wheel-cover option all the better(that one makes it look like a Hotwheels car).
Finally a real contender to replace my Chevrolet Bolt which I love the front wheel drive
We ARE interested in how she's getting on with her treatment Sam so thanks for mentioning it. I wonder how she is every time I watch your videos, so please keep us updated.
YES SHANNA!! What a warrior - would love a vid!
Enjoy your videos Sam. Yes. Please give us an update on Shanna's progress.
Hearing so much about Revux in my crypto groups. Definitely on the rise!
Front Drive keeps price down, less wires, I would bet the bigger battery might take the space under the rear where the drive motor might otherwise be. Not for people that want to mash the accelerator, just economy, perfect for commuting. I liked testing the Niro, but costs too much.
Front wheel drive cars, it allowed greater handling abilities in snowy ice conditions.
Over it's a great looking car !
I would love to drive this car ! I hope this car it's affordable in CANADA ?
😍💖🚙💖⚡️🔋🌞🌏✌️
Best wishes for Shanna, hope she's doing well. ❤
Excellent information best regards to Shana and your sons
Thank you! Will do!
Other surces in EU are claiming that base model will have NMC battery. Don't know what is the true, NMC or LFP ?
Wishing Shanna all the best!
In May, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China are expected to be around 770,000 units, up 32.8 percent year-on-year.
AWD is best for winter weather. Fwd ok but the back end can swing around. I’ll believe it when I see it. They always make claims that are not real.
Is the 375 mileage estimate WLTP?
Drinking game: Take a drink every time he says "boot space".
I think rear wheel drive is better in any car but in a car in this segment its not going to be a deal breaker.
Consolidating my portfolio to focus on BTC and Revux, maybe a touch of LTC.
Thoughts and prayers with you Viking and family
Pitty the time it arrives in Australia it's a 55-70k EV
I wish the AUD was worth more 😢
thanks to our stupid aussie tariffs
45k starting is very competitive. No idea what math you’re working on.
How can the EV3 be the price you are suggesting when the Tesla MY RWD is now $62K plus on roads? KIA wouldn’t sell any. I would think nearer to $50K. $55-$70K is a huge price difference and I think your hypothesis is very flawed for even suggesting such a wide price spread.
I prefer front wheel drive for its performance in snowy conditions.
Here is the thing, the EV5 will be built in China, and this EV3 will be built in Korea for the Australian market, so it's likely the EV5 will end up still being cheaper! As well the EV5 is also available in AWD with a slightly bigger 88kwh (84kwh useable) battery.
God bless Shanna and your Family. Would love to see her involved if she is ready to share. Keep up the good reviews and thanks for the updates. Barry
Front wheel drive is safer and easier to drive. Also provides stronger and safer regen. Also probably allow for more space in the boot.
Would love to hear from Shanna. I am a 7 yr survivor myself. Much love to you and the fam.
Regenerative breaking is best handled by the front motor. Perhaps the reason the car is front wheel drive.
like it more than the volvo ex30 with the more space, but dont like the front wheel drive, lets hope they do like volvo/polestar and shift to rwd in a facelift. If they have a 4wd version it should not be difficult. the charge speed is not impressive for a new model.
Seat Toledo Boot space: 550 liters. ... ... Interior space with 5 seats. The Seat Toledo has a length of 4482 mm
I hope this remains under £30,000 in the UK as often the prices here seem to go much higher. All the best to Shanna and hoping all goes well.
Definitely getting the long range version
Can you do a video on ev vans? There is nothing decent out there. All low range without any load....
My bull run picks: LINK, UNI, and SOL. Best presale? Hands down, Revux.
Looks good inside and out!
FWD torque steer is very bad on my Mini EV, especially when rapidly turning/accelerating onto a highway.
Family is the most important thing in your life. We would love to know how everything is going with the chemotherapy. The Kia looks interesting, but I’d hate to think how much it will really cost by the time it gets to Australia …
Obviously interested in hearing how Shanna is going 👍❤️
All hope and prayers to Shanna will get better soon ! 😉🩵🙏
best wishes to your wife. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Still too expensive. And too much "content" (and probably profit).
We continue (everywhere) to be let down by EVERYBODY while waiting for an EV that "average people" can afford.
Deal breaker for me. Liked all you said until FWD. RWD much better from my experience with EV’s. Currently drive MG4 which is excellent for UK roads.
I really like this EV3 and seems an excellent replacement for the Bolt EUV. If it is eligible for some bit of incentives all the better. Since it looks like this will beat the new Bolt and Rivian R3 to market it just might sell like hot cakes. FWD vs RWD in this car I don't is a big deal. As the owner of a Spark EV w/327 lb ft of torque I'm familiar with rediculous about of torque steer just like my son's old 86 Shelby Charger. RWD is definitely an advantage for handling and is one of the reasons I'm very interested in the Volvo EX30 but bottom line for me will be pricing. I just wish we could get the Cupra Born here as well but my interest level pecking order to replace my Spark EV currently is the Kia EV3, Volvo EX30, and Rivian R3 but the new Bolt EUV might end up in running but both it and the R3 may be over a year or more away yet. Glad to see Kia saw the opportunity to jump in where the Bolt left off.
