Is Virtual Reality The Next Step For Prisons
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2020
- Imagine serving a 100 year prison sentence, in say, 8 hours? How could that be possible? Well, in today's crazy video we're talking about virtual reality prison cells that could be the future for prisoners serving long term prison sentences. A VR prison could ease the amount of people incarcerated but what problems could it create? Do you think virtual reality prison is the future of solitary confinement? Let us know in the comments.

"VR Prison." Yup, definitely sounds like a Black Mirror episode.
I know, it sounds like torture.
It is "white christmas"
It's an Outer Limits episode from 1996 "The sentence".
A really horrible TV show from netflix is about this called the I-land. If prison vr programs can be led by psychologists to provide rehabilitation and you know, not to torture them, it could really help with curbing recidivism. I think that is the long term goal for people exploring AR.

I think VR could well be a powerful tool for treatment and for preparing long-term prisoners to reenter a very different society than the one they left; probably helps lead them to recidivism, going back to a place they can fit in.

Great idea 💡
So here is my issue with the cost argument. When a prisoner goes to jail they typically don't pay rent or morgage... They lose their apartment or house. But if they are doing this VR thing at home I'm assuming they are still living at home but not working. So who pays their rent/mortgage? I would think the state would have to help them and there goes any cost savings
Same idea for food. In jail that's paid for and part of the cost. In this VR thing, assuming they are not working they would just end up getting assistance from the government and there goes any cost savings
I would have so many headaches

We already live in a prison: the life we are told to live by.
Imagine not realizing that we're already in a prison.
Or just not remembering
How that one guy once said:
*You have no power here*
In the movie Ready Player One they had like a virtual prison. Only instead of people committing a crime it was a corporate detention center where they incarnated people who failed to pay their debts. The people were inside small portapotty like cells restrained and a headset they could not remove. In VR they were forced to perform menial tasks that suited the corporate interests.
8:36 those arms though
Dang I was almost first 💀
What would you have gained if you were may I ask ?
There is a real brilliance to this...
The idea of using VR for learning new skills should be exciting for everyone
I was thinking this was gonna be more like you strap a REALLY advanced virtually reality helmet on some prisoner that is more similar to the matrix compared to the tiny screen we simply put in front of our faces now. And while they are in their there could be years passing by in their mind meanwhile its only been a few days in the real world.
photorealistic quality make a brain cannot thinking compared where it's real and where it's not a real
8:36 white dudes rapidly tapping their legs is a little strange, they do need rehab.
There was an Outerlimits show (the new version of the series) quite a while ago that had David Hyde Pierce (from Frasier fame) as part of a team working on virtual reality. In this system you could let the VR part of the computer speed up time for you in the virtual reality, while normal time passes outside. In this a person could go to college in a day or law school in a day or so, etc. It was also used for prison so a person could be rehabed without spending his whole life in prison. Well, Pierce's character was testing the program and he caught himself in a sixty year prison sentence brought on by some guilt he had in his subconscious, so he actually experienced what it would be like to be in prison for sixty years. Finally they got him out.
They covered this possibility on an
episode of "The Outer Limits". It
was quite chilling; to say the least.
They also did it on an episode of Deep Space Nine that same year.
