Motor yacht almost destroys my boat!

- I was med moored at the island of Kea in Greece and the motor yacht next to me didn't not properly set their anchor. Their anchor picked up mine and the motored away at speed and nearly pulled my anchor, chain and windlass off my point and the damage would have been substantial.

Hey Bobbie, I love your channel and have been following you when for years. I am a USA retired fighter weapons officer and I volunteer with the locals Doctors Without Borders (DWB) clinics on the islands of Samos and Lesvos and have done so for the past 6yrs. The camps on those islands are more detention camps for refugees coming out of Turkey, Syria and few other places that should remain nameless. Both islands are overloaded with refugees so our clinic works 10-12 hours a day. Both islands are beautiful so on the rare time we would get off we flocked to the beaches. We are not going to be able to work the camps on either island since we will be in Ukraine setting up more clinics in the eastern part of the country. Keep up enjoying life and liven like a rock star. -- Dee
Respect the way you handled it Bobby!! Evidently the mega yacht did not have a professional crew.
Our last charter was in 2017 out of Athens. My wife and I swore we'd never go back. Some of the "sailors" we encountered should never have been allowed on a boat. Incompetent and rude. It is a shame because the Greek islands are worth seeing. Saying you need to be vigilant of any surrounding boats is an understatement. Your "gymnastics" brought back some very unpleasant memories for me. Best of luck going forward.
What a cluster F$CK- That yacht had many larger spots available to park the boat, but they chose the tight spot right next to you. It can be frustrating.
When you shared the Med-Mooring piece, my first thought was; lots of people must hook the chains... sure as shit it happened. Sorry you had to deal with it, but you did a great job with damage control Bobby. Cheers.
Nothing like rank-amateurs' boating amongst experienced sailors. Never was crazy about Med-Ties, but that's what you have to deal with in that part of the world. Admittedly more challenging than just "dropping the hook" in crowded harbors/bays, when amateurs don't understand tides, currents and winds. Thanks for all you do, with or without a crew. 😎
Med mooring on your own is pretty impressive stuff Bobbie👏👏👏😎🙌👍
Again I truly enjoyed this video with you on your own, glad to watch more. Thanks
Sadly some people are clueless when they have more Dollars than sense. They need to take time to learn what they are doing before doing it.
Good for you Bobby for keeping your cool! I would have absolutely had some choice words/expletives to express loudly. S4B! 😎
What a cluster. Not a captain just a rich guy with more money than brains.
I had a guy trying to dock a new boat near mine, it was clear just from his approach to the dock he didn’t know what he was doing. After almost ramming the dock twice and a close call with my boat…..I talked him in….he admitted it was his first boat….😮…..most of time…just slow down…gives you a chance to recover.
Loving the solo sailing
These solo sails are my favorite
I'm gonna guess there was plenty editing so as not to have any issues with Y/T. I'm sure Bobby was probably questioning the Yachter's mother's marital status among other things. But this video shows Bobby has the cool and the ability to handle it all. Good stuff, Bobby. Thanks.
Good one.
Definitely
"Yatcher's mother marital status"...🤣🤣🤣🤣...that killed me!!!...
😂
I would have been much more assertive than you Bobby in that situation probably not in the interest of my own good health, good job keeping your cool.
Wow glad they didn't do any damage!
One of my friends used to sell planes for piper. He said the worst part of the job was having to checkride wealthy clients who could afford planes but couldn't fly them or were less than humble on their abilities. I'm sure the same thing happens with boats...
Bobby I feel your pain! We have had this happen. Great job showing the side of yachting that no one considers. It goes from perfect to SH#t show in blink of an eye. Sadly it if often charter powerboats or cats that cause chaos through lack of skill or total arrogance. Their beliefs that because they paid a company alot of money they have 'the right' to be there creating dangerous situations. But like I said great job showing it and hope there was no damage.
That could have been bad! Glad all is okay.
That aint no megayacht Bobby.
Not even a superyacht.
Just a regular old motoryacht.
Motoryacht =
At 3:53 you show the awning above the cafe... that is the basic style that was used 2,000 plus years ago above the Greek Coliseum to shade the spectators, while the gladiators were fighting each other or a lion. Some things don't change. When it works it works.
There's idiots everywhere. I'm glad nothing was damaged.
You need a bungee cord or something to keep you attached to your boat in case you go overboard!
Really nice boat handling, per usual! But man, are you kidding....solo w/o a PFD c'mon bro.
you stayed way cooler than I would have been!
Glad it wasn't me...
Bobby you handled it well, at least on video...lol
When I get a boat. Def anchoring up and tendering in regardless of the hassles. Good thing you were on your boat the entire time to keep people from causing damage.
Good Job Bobby.....You saved your boat!!!!!
Enjoyed clip thanks.
You are looking FIT ! good work, and keep shaving it makes you look younger.
That was a close call. You handled it very well.......what's news about crews ?
Nice job getting much of that on film!
Bobby, I get it isn’t as good for filming but you’re single handling you should have a PFD on. It’s all good until it isn’t.
That could have been real ugly, glad you were around Bobby
Bobby the devil has been giving you h_ll lately and that means only one thing, you have a great heart and he is jealous as all get out. Shine on Bobby and every once in a while tell the devil where to stick it. 👍💪🙏😎✌️
welcome to Greece and balkans. they drive like crazy here
America's Captain, Bobby!!
Feels a bit like series one doodles but without the dogs :-(! Looking forward to Bobby getting a bigger boat and crew back. Other boaters seem to be the main problem when sailing in Greece.
Hey Bobby glad everything turned out ok and no damage resulted. However that was no mega yacht. That was a power boat at best. The Dark Side was what 56 feet a yacht but clearly no mega yacht. Again glad there was no damage to your boat.
Do you exchange insurance or something, in case theres structural damage?
Any plans or thoughts about if by chance you Bobby would slip off the boat , how would you get back on ?
In theory you trailer something behind you. In my case I had my kayak 30 ft behind me that I can catch and pull myself into then pull it to the boat. In practice I was never able to do it. In fact no one I know on any forum has been able to do it. At this point I don't even bother. It better to take measure not to slip off the boat like tethers.
Wear a life jacket ?
"People need to learn how to drive their boats".... That is true almost everywhere. I was on the Columbia River this past weekend and had THREE idiots nearly cause a catastrophic accident. SMH
A lot happening this video Bobby. Hopefully you had time to get off the boat and scooter. Thankfully no real damage hopefully. And that was beginner's super yacht by the size of it. A wanna Be Yacht Captain driving. Try and enjoy yourself Bobby have a beer Again!! lol
Stay safe see you later next video
thanks man!
Up, close and a little personal and sailing🏋🏻♀️🤟🏋🏻♀️, we love it🏅
Steph !!!!!!, Bobby needs crew !
I’m getting T&A withdrawals. But, it’s good to see Booby (er I mean Bobby- see what I mean?) getting back into shape and going Rocky Balboa style.
Groovy video. Some people should just do their boating in the bathtub.
Bobby .. Do you keep a long line out on open seas just in case ?
truly
That’s amazing how much footage you got of that stupidity! I much prefer it when the harbor puts bouys for you to attach to instead of anchoring but issues with that too.
Amazing the number of owners out there (not just charter skippers) that can't park their boat and leave again without messing up someone else's day. Been there, pi***s me off too, big time!
Hey Bobby, at least you were able to remedy the situation without damage. But wtf was that big boats captain doing? Must have been another wanking man. 🤣🤣
You'd think the captains of those mega yatchs would be more experienced/know better. Crazy situation!
Wtf Bobby , does no one know how to drive boats any more ? I learned Med Moor from your vids , thanks ! But theres no test for common sense! But you handled it like a pro ! A little different vibe now but im here for the long haul brother ! Tap tap , i ant goin no where ! 👍
Holy crap, nuts
Glad your boat was not damaged, but I am not sure they realize your 600K worth of followers now have seen this.
From TQA
My setup allows me to poke a 4 ft long 1/2 dia stainless steel rod into the chain locker to push over the castles from the deck while lifting the anchor. This works for me.
NB Push the first 2 castles towards the stern. This prevents the later chain piles from being covered by the early ones falling back on passage.
We had one of those anchor idiots in the Isle of Shoals....REALLY wanted to get on his boat.......
this an every day occurrence in the greek islands
Well done Bobby!! Good thing you were on the boat to take care of it. I wondered how all those boats tied up there didn’t get caught on each other’s lines. Unfortunately, I guess I got my answer. They do get caught. Could’ve been a whole lot worse. And I’m not minding this solo sailing at all. You still make it interesting. Thank you from California.💜⛵️🤗🫶😎🐬🇺🇸
I find these solo journeys more interesting.
Great footage catching it all.
You would think that everyone would be great at Med mooring since it's so prominent over there.
What headbands are you using for your Oakley glasses?
Like I said, we worry about you Bobby sailing alone....
😱😱😱😱😮😮😮😬😬😬😕😕😕😳😳😳🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 This is my actual face watching this episode! I can imagine what your face was like!
The Capt of that BOAT was A JOKE.......sorry he came in and almost slammed your boat and then when he left he banked right instead of straight catching your anchor.......WHo pulls out of dock and banks hard right in front of another anchored boat???????
For all of the wind issues you note there in the Med, do you think boaters are better off with a motor yacht? Just wondering since it seems to blow in the opposite direction you need to go all too often. It had to be an issue back in the sail only days; something planned around, I guess.
You just know a lot of these large power boat users have no sailing chops and no manners whatsoever.
You should mention the name of the yacht that caused the problem.
Did you really single hand into the med mooring? Curious how you drove and deployed the anchor simultaneously unless there was a windlass control at helm?
windlass at helm, yes
It would cost but changing the chain to stainless would most likely stop the chain stack issue. Stainless slips and slides easy.
Solo is much better Bobby. Thank you again from Kentucky ✌️
Keep the dry side up, and the wet side down!
Holy crap, that was insane. Shit show is right. Glad there was no damage.
They make little portable washing machines for like 100 bucks they work really good too.
You really kept your cool and overcame a bad situation
Bobby, there are captains and there are want to be, how the hell they pass the Captains test and anyway leaving the dock you are suppose to pull out slowly to prevent this.
Don’t ya just hate those amateurs.😬
Greek luck with the charter boat. 😊
That was terrible hope that never happens when your off😉
Way to act fast, Bobby!
What idots Bobby.
We actually use little red buoy
clipped over anchor. Nobody crosses halfway and stays outside of the anchor.
We just adjust buoy tie for the different depths.
There are people who drive boats and then there are captains. The former scare the hell out of me every weekend. Kudos on the quick thinking and recovery.
Will you be getting a new crew anytime soon?
He better, this kind of video is boring
I captain the same yacht stateside.... A Rizzardi right?
Some people don’t have the smarts to operate boats, at all!!
New/Old crew already on the boat! coley_jens, G and others... or there all in Greece together climbing... Can't miss G's voice, she never stops talking!
So, that boat can't beat the weather.....
Who's the poor sucker who has to hold the camera while all this fun is going on
More fear than damage thankfully 🙏🏻
Holy Crap!
Nice...
With a super yacht that size surely it should have a professional skipper ?😳
Lots of amateurs in the Med, it's always been a problem.
People with more money than sense.
When did this happen??
Even in a beautiful setting like you're enjoying in Greece ..... there's no cure for stoopid.
Bobby you coming to Burning Man this year?
Many low skill captains out there. There is no standard in place for private boat owners that is sufficient. You can pilot your new mega yacht with no credentials day one.
And there’s plenty of room for the larger boats to anchor, what’a their problem.
Dang, I need a drink after watching that sh*tshow! 😅
Glad to hear nothing was damaged.
