I marched for the Legion, and NCCU is slowly becoming one of my favorite bands. For real. They are entertaining, the sound good, in tune, can march. High energy... Why are folks still hating on this program? They are a force to be reckoned with. They field better shows than most bands. If there's another program out there that I'd march for, this would be it. Keep doin big things NCCU.
Regardless of what anyone says, NCCU has persistence. We get better and better every year, unlike some bands who have great years, fall off...sound better in a few years, fall off again...etc. We have always been on the come up, and NO LESS!
Proud of you NCCU. Please ignore those comments about being like other bands and squads. Obviously, being like them would get you where and what they get. You should extremely happy with what you do. You see where and what it is getting you. Its unfortunate, we still have to share the band world with ignorance and people who refuse to study true musicianship and real band pageantry before making a statement. However, you must continue to consider their "analysis", as part LD.
There were parts in the show from what they did at Honda, but this was, for the most, in many of the bands show. From what I saw, Most of the bands did well for it to still be August.
@AllTopStatus im not saying that NCCU doesnt read music. but if you listen to the parts you really dont need music to play the songs. im sure they read music just like the other MEAC schools but this performance doesnt show that the percussion section reads music. i do know that they have to be able to read music in order to get in the band though
Haters...you know you are doing something good when you have haters...Their sound is so clean and crisp! Yeah, school pride maybe swaying my opinion but folks do hate on this superb band for some reason...oh yeah, its because they are good.
@steveodapromokid It was a good show, but I guess people are just wondering why you did a virtual repeat of the Honda show, as opposed to doing a new show like everyone else.
Great job MSM....Way to rep that EAGLE PRIDE....I'm glad you guys march with class instead of just blowing notes like some other schools...EAGLE PRIDE!!!!
@usm2010 really same show? all the way turnt up, shake your body down to the ground, im dreaming, walking on the moon...poison...earth song...dance routine. watchu on? come off it.
Man...I didn't try to overblow, but I did hit a super A at 4:00. I think that's correct screaming...hitting the note clean and cutting off clean. No hangovers.
The drilling was different, and the only things that were "recycled" from Honda were Poison and Shake Your Body Down. Besides, it looks and sounds good, albeit a few trouble spots. So I don't see what the big "issue" is.
@thedrummaboy68 not all bands that do high step lack precision. look at schools like jackson state, grambling state and southern as well as uapb. those bands know how to do drills. their lines are always straight. but since hbcu band competitions are really showcases and not actual contest that you win it really doesnt matter their lines arenot straight espcially if its early in the season. and as far as the music goes the drumlines in hbcu bands make up the parts so there is no sheet music.
@TheDragonmaster18 Its a whole field show though, not a percussion feature. Its about the whole band, it shouldnt be showcase the drumlines ability to read music. What schools are you comparing them too?
@thedrummaboy68 dude this was the week before the first game. any band both high school and college isnot going to be its best when its so early in the season. even the great FAMU messed up at that BOTB except they were able to hide a couple of their mistakes with all of those people they have
@steveodapromokid You are right the entire show was not from Honda, but close to half of it was. It is understood that you all play what you are told to play, but seeing that half of the show was from Honda it should have been super sharp. The other bands did new shows, yes it is early in the season, but if everyone else could do a totally new show, Central should have too.
this my mentality bout the situation its no argument forreal i mean ppl in other bands obviously not gonna like our show cuz they feel we are a weird band jus cuz we do stuff different then most hbcu's doesnt mean we aint do a good job evertything was on point this show b honest wit ya selves and as far as the golden delight comment ummm the hoops was extra effect if u look and watch ull c the effect eclpise isnt trynna b like gd both dance squads got they own style nccu is diffrent from a&t
@thedrummaboy68 yeah due to the type of music they play which is mostly black music the percussion part is so easy they just have to listen to the origianl song to get the beat. now there are actually some hbcu drumlines that read music. those would be virginia state, norfolk state, bethune cookman, and florida a&m
as far as the show planning i know nothing about i dnt question my director its his call not ours and the show wasnt completely honda the only thing that was the same was poison and shake ur body down honda was completely different
@khafre06 Central "shouldnt" do anything...like certain bands dont march around playing the same songs & floating the same letters every year. shut off.
@TBoneMusician08 You completely missed the point. All band recycle songs in the stands. That is how you build a library so that you can battle. However, doing virtually the same show as last year is a no no. Come on now, you know that.
Its hard to hide a bad performance. Rather than spending so much money going to the Rose Parade, NCCU needs to spend more money on recruiting better musicians. I know they want to be one of the elite bands in the MEAC but they are a long way off.
@TheDragonmaster18 ....search william penn marching colonials 2010 ..where a highschool..and all our lines r straight..high stepping bands in general lack percision and practice like for real its not that hard im a second year member and i could learn all there drill and music in like 2 days ...and ur probably wondering why i have any room to talk ..its cus im a 2 year member of a 5 year undefeated drumline ..need i repeat ...SRTAIGHT LINES
ummmm nccu girls need work if they want to be like Golden Delight. They need to put GD's show on repeat until they go to california! Who swings hoops in a battle? Really!! wheretheydothatat!!!!!! other then nccu, i dont even think hillside high school would do it (swing hoops and rock side to side) but what do i know!!

Once again North Carolina Central Universities Marching Sound Machine sets the standard of excellence.
There were parts in the show from what they did at Honda, but this was, for the most, in many of the bands show. From what I saw, Most of the bands did well for it to still be August.
@silkaem This band is underrated. They are good; others need to recognize and respect the fact.
@AllTopStatus im not saying that NCCU doesnt read music. but if you listen to the parts you really dont need music to play the songs. im sure they read music just like the other MEAC schools but this performance doesnt show that the percussion section reads music. i do know that they have to be able to read music in order to get in the band though

the ending was fire! Great show! I love the last note of the show too.
@steveodapromokid It was a good show, but I guess people are just wondering why you did a virtual repeat of the Honda show, as opposed to doing a new show like everyone else.
@riveramob it was the first performance... chill. everybody had bat points. did u hear the terrible phasing by FAMU?
@AllTopStatus Hey the FSU? So he went to Fayetteville State also? Lol. I know Florida State! Thanx for the info and God bless.
@khafre06 *flag on the play* when you say "virtually" you mean poison? because thats the only thing that was played last year
Great show!
@WestsideCheryl Haha, no problem. I didn't know the song until we played it...and THEN it comes on the radio, haha.
Great job MSM....Way to rep that EAGLE PRIDE....I'm glad you guys march with class instead of just blowing notes like some other schools...EAGLE PRIDE!!!!

@TheDragonmaster18 wow that would explain alot

@TBoneMusician08 You completely missed the point. All band recycle songs in the stands. That is how you build a library so that you can battle. However, doing virtually the same show as last year is a no no. Come on now, you know that.
@DirectoresCortar Not the Same Show But Most Of It
Most of there SHow was From Last Year
@jerronjohnson I really don't think they are trying to be Golden Delight..TRUST ME...They are good at what they do and so is NCCU...#imjustsaying
Its hard to hide a bad performance. Rather than spending so much money going to the Rose Parade, NCCU needs to spend more money on recruiting better musicians. I know they want to be one of the elite bands in the MEAC but they are a long way off.
