+Clay Tall Stories - ive lived in Auckland city my whole life, your videos are a window into a world I havent experienced too much. im real keen to go hunting someday, but wouldnt know where to start.. anyway, great work on the videos, the music, attitude, nature and people really make it a pleasure to watch
I went to Auckland when I was just 15 after I left home. I played harmonica and washed dishes in restaurants to survive. It was an exciting time for a young boy who had just run away from home.
Brilliant video! This has got to be one of the best I've watched on survival/bush tucker. 'Authentic' is what I'd call it! You really know what you're doing. I will be watching a lot more of your stuff.
thats good to know about the river stones; explains alot as me and a couple buddies made a bon fire one time and lined it up with giant river stones which exploded one after another once the fire grew lol. Scared the shit out of everyone
Love your video and will watch more. I might learn something about my country. Refreshing to listen to a real man talking with none of the PC bullshit that passes for conversation in town. Keep it up :)
Clay I still love watching ur old video's I have used flat rocks as cooking pans they are great when ur away from every thing. Maybe you should do a clip on cooking with a big flat stone at ur place be good to show everyone that plus you say it's ur favorite way of cooking
Good Collection of New Zealand Kai to eat clay, specially the Pukeko egg, look so orangey colour,Well done mate, great vid, good tune,All the best from the boys at waikarimoana.

1000 times better when you get it yourself..and reap the rewards of your efforts.Wasps yes....hate the damn things.. found an old Nissan Hut back in the Late 80's West Coast, was one Massive Wasp nest, need less to say we deviated our line of march. The Hum coming from it was very intimidating..... so not surprised so few bee hives with those evil creatures so abundant.
try and use the water crees as a salad ,skweez a half lemon half that of vinegar salt and pepper to taste and thinly chop some anion you will love it mate..
Broooooo. Awesome channel! Inspiring me to get out there and do it! How do go about gaining access to areas? Door knock on spots youve scoped? Love your videoes bro
I used to eat seagull eggs etc we would see if they floated before eating them to see if they were off. Must try the Kawa kawa. There is a bit up the block here. Nice vids
Fascioliasis is an infectious disease caused by Fasciola parasites, which are flat worms referred to as liver flukes. The adult (mature) flukes are found in the bile ducts and liver of infected people and animals, such as sheep and cattle.
Yeah bro...Wild pork and watercress is a win. I songs all the songs on my clips except for the ones with female vocals. and those ones are either my daughters or my students.
Heck I got to be 1k....that's a first. Really enjoyed this. Kawakawa tea is one of the nicest green teas I have tasted and is very good for you. Of course, kawakawa juice can be made and stored in the fridge for a daily drink. The olds swore by its healing goodness as you say, "good for the immune system" as most green teas are. Subbed.
@@ClayTallStories I use to work in the bush out the back of king country, i use to come accross heaps goats great bush tucker! Do you come accross much of those in your travels ?
+thrillernz1 They are pretty common around the top of the south island on NZ. I am not sure about the rest of the country. Known as banana passion fruit. Also considered an obnoxious plant because they strangle some of our native species. When ripe they taste bloody good!
Awesome!! I've never actually been hunting but its something I wanna try when I'm there. I occasionally fuck about with air rifles on my mates farm but never properly hunted. Can't wait to experience NZ!!
Wow you're amazing!First time i've ever watched you but it wont be the last.Don't think we have Kawakawa in Southland, does the tea have a similar effect as kava?
Hey bro, do you take time out to teach people bushcraft Id love to learn or can you recommend any books specific to nz bush Kai that I could look into cheers mate
Will do, was thinking it could come in handy considering I fly around the southern Alps and if I go down I would want to know some more bush craft skills cheers
If you crashed and survived your first port of call would be to set off your PBL. Do you carry one? I do. After that, it would be to make a shelter out of your plane or what was left of it. Keeping warm and last of all finding water to drink. Food would be way down on my list of things as you can go a long time just living on your body fat (unless you are super skinny already)Good luck mate
Cheers mate, yip before we go down we activate our ELT onboard the Airplane, but I need to get myself a EPIRB for on the ground....That's really good advice thank you and your videos are bloody awesome! I'm going to have a experiment with the stuff i've seen on your uploads! Awesome stuff bro!
This is gold Clay haha, 1st time watcher and I must say I enjoyed watching your true blue kiwi style ways of doing bush tucker. Walk off the track on DOC land. Go high, stick to the ridges.
I used to eat seagull eggs etc we would see if they floated before eating them to see if they were off. Must try the Kawa kawa. There is a bit up the block here. Nice vids
Nothing wrong with seagull eggs Ryan
kiwi egg gathering tip #1.... submerge it in water, if it sinks its good, if it floats its bad ;)
yeah..I knew that haha. Thanks
Can you tell us more about this liver fluke you mention on the watercress?
Fascioliasis is an infectious disease caused by Fasciola parasites, which are flat worms referred to as liver flukes. The adult (mature) flukes are found in the bile ducts and liver of infected people and animals, such as sheep and cattle.
Good on ya mate. Choice video.
thanks mate
I think that they are banana passion fruits, good vid
they are bro. Good eating.
I'd do the float test on the egg for freshness!
You had me at wild pork n water cress. Who sings the honey song btw?
Yeah bro...Wild pork and watercress is a win. I songs all the songs on my clips except for the ones with female vocals. and those ones are either my daughters or my students.

Legendary video, hoping to head into the bush with my mates soon. Any tips on identifying the useful/edible plants?
top bloke
Cool!
Thank you Ilana. I like your name. Sounds cool.
What's the story with those passion fruit? Never seen anything like it
+thrillernz1 They are pretty common around the top of the south island on NZ. I am not sure about the rest of the country. Known as banana passion fruit. Also considered an obnoxious plant because they strangle some of our native species. When ripe they taste bloody good!
+Clay Tall Stories awesome thanks mate I'll have to go find some as I found out it's illegal to grow and sell them!
Often you find them in coastal area's. good luck!
If they are the Auzzy version run. slightly duller in color to our honey bees. They are mean.
I'm going over to NZ for a year in july. Is it hard to get permits for hunting/camping etc?
easy as mate. Just go to your local DOC office. Hunting permits in NZ are mostly free for crown land.
Awesome!! I've never actually been hunting but its something I wanna try when I'm there. I occasionally fuck about with air rifles on my mates farm but never properly hunted. Can't wait to experience NZ!!
goodluck
Hi friend my u live long God bless u
Wow you're amazing!First time i've ever watched you but it wont be the last.Don't think we have Kawakawa in Southland, does the tea have a similar effect as kava?
It tastes peppery. I have never drunk kava so I don't know.
We all lose a root occasionally, amen brother.
I still feel sad for the ones I have lost .ha
Hey bro, do you take time out to teach people bushcraft Id love to learn or can you recommend any books specific to nz bush Kai that I could look into cheers mate
I don't read any books sorry mate. Hit me up if you are ever in Nelson
Will do, was thinking it could come in handy considering I fly around the southern Alps and if I go down I would want to know some more bush craft skills cheers

top video
+greenwayfilms1 Thank you team. It's not as exciting as a hunting clip, but one had to be done.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kava I had a look myself and found that kawakawa is a related but different plant .Probably it was good for your bee sting.
3:11 Ivy! Evil bastard of a plant in NZ, that will wreck that whole area, eventually the whole bush if someone doesn't deal to it.
Hey Clay.
Hey there Cindy
Dogs are people too. 😀
haha. My dogs think they are some times Lynne.

way to go. I always wanted a 4x4 camper. Is it a Mazda Bongo van or a ute? or a land cruiser...or a Subaru wagon?
Great content. :)
Thanks!
If you get stung by a bee put honey on the sting
