- OUTDATED! See the new higher quality version I posted here: • Steely Dan 2003-08-11 ...
I improved the audio and video quality of this popular recording from the 2003 visit to Pine Knob just outside Detroit. (As Walter asks during the show, "How come this is always such a cool place to why? Why the hell is that?") This is a superb concert, and now sounds better than ever.

It always impressed me how Walter Becker would just stand there like just another guy, when in fact he cowrote all this magic. Humble dude.
Keith Carlock's drumming makes my hair stand on-end. Utterly brilliant solo in Aja. Love Steely Dan.
2 hours of my life that I do not want to get back!
Jon Herington is a truly exceptional guitarist. His technical prowess, melodic sensibility, and soulful expression make him stand out among his peers. With remarkable versatility and a deep understanding of various genres, he consistently delivers captivating performances. Herington's guitar skills are a testament to his immense talent and dedication.
Agreed.
Really, each one of these artists are in this class.
and he had to deal with fagen playuing all over his parts lol
Absolutely, he's an exceptional musician, but what would you expect. Anyone who works with Walter & Donald had better bring their A game, look at the guy's music he has to emulate in a set , Danny , Dean, Larry & Jay to name a few !!! . Walter's no slouch either, the mark of a true pro , is they look like they're doing nothing. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
And Walter was certainly an underrated guitarist - superb blues sound that contrasts with Herrington's power.
It's like a fine wine, the more it ages the better it gets. Amazing taste and pleasing to the pallet and the ears.
I love how they open with Aja, arguably their most complex tune.
My favorite sarcastic bastards of all time! RIP Walt never be the same without you.
Keith Carlock will go down as one of the best drummers in the history of music, and possibly the most unique sounding as well. Either him or Gadd.
Yeah. Either him or Gadd. One of the best. ;-)
Fully agree. I could listen to him all day. He makes the simplest of beats so interesting and I’m glad the production really shows off his skills.
Thanks for posting this.
Walter Becker’s doodlings are annoying. Rather to listen to Jon Hetherington.
@@kenjones6441yes true . I still feel that Drew Zingg was their best guitarist ever.
It is difficult to describe how good this audio is compared to other versions. Watching & listening to these professionals at the top of their games is a tremendous gift. Thanks, Dan, for the massive work you put in to make this experience possible.
Keith Carlock looks as busy as a bee but sounds sublime. Fantastic drumming.
I was there, last row in the pavillion. it was the night of our 20 year high school reunion. I went to the party at the end, speeding down Telegraph to get there before it was over.
Thanks Mr Dan , for the wonderful music. Finding this has made my day, you are a gentleman and a scholar. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
An outstanding performance. Being a Trombone player for over 50 back in grade 7, still playing my Conn 6H, this guy can play in our Band anytime.
Brass man gotta love it🎺
Keith Carlock is superb.
Wooo three of the most beautiful back up singers ever! And sounding amazing too!
Very Nice recording. Nice to see and hear Cornelius and Walter who are truly missed...

This is a master performance. As a SD zealot this is nirvana. RIP Walter. This recording should be put in a time capsule and we can hope the aliens find it so they know we were more advanced then they thought. 😮😊
Keith Carlock is crazy good! He deserves to be in SD.
Lol
Best band ever!!!!
Try Led Zeppelin
Keith Carlock absolutely stellar
I can honestly say I just never get tired of their music. And the mucisianship is always the best.
Serious musicians, not make believe 🤩
Been to a dozen or so concerts but had never heard "The Steely Dan Show"! Laughed my butt off. It is genius!
Incredible to see an old friend Keith Carlock drivin the bus for Steely Dan among many other legendary groups over the years. Caught most of his early gigs in Dallas in the 90’s before he moved into the big time. Great musicians in this live show groovin the classic tunes. Steely Dan is the best. Enjoy this timeless music. Thanks for sharing, Dan. Cheers
Einfach klasse. Steely Dan . 2.mal live erlebt.. liebe die Musik..von Becker.🎸 and 🎹🎹 Fagan...
Sehr gut!
Caught them live many times... this one is close to the best😎👆🎶💯💪💥🇺🇸✔️
Great Show as allways for Steely Dan ¡ Great Times. What an Awesome Music those 2 Peers made together. And of course all those amazing musicians that recorded and toured with them. Unique Band ¡ Love em Forever ¡ 🙏❤🎸✌
Made my evening, geniusses at work, Walt Weiskopf has that tone…
Don't every one of them!? Walter & Donald go thru many before picking the perfect musicians.
Man, this is amazing!
Loving every moment.
Possibly, (sorry, folks), the best-looking trio of back-up singers ever 😅😊.
And the white boy on drums? Haven't seen him before.
He shouldn't be cutting school to go play with Steely Dan. Amazing drummer, totally amazing band.
Thanks so much for posting this! Tre-MEN-dous!!
Zelly, Flax & Cally. They get a huge 😍
The drummer Keith Carlock is a monster. He's played with some other big names like Toto, Sting, Christopher Cross, John Mayer, etc.
Are you kidding me...I'm slammed. Perfect.
Again, one of the best, and I was fortunate enough to catch many... and been a fan since day one! Reeling in the years, 🕶️👍🎶
I love hearing Walter sing. He sounds great.
Mr. Parkers Band on the Album is just incredible .
2:05:19 What a finish on FM. A big soul scream and then Walter gets deep in it. Amazing concert. Endless praise Mr. Belcher... what a fabulous treat!
I so love Mr. Bumpus' solo on Black Cow (!) ...every note...
39:20 Fagen’s delay on the second syllable of “Aaaaaaa-gain” is one of the reasons why he is a master singer. The most underrated voice in music.
With a little help from the laydeez
The truth is that Fagen hits the notes only approximately ... he is not a singer per se, but a vocal stylist. His voice is an acquired taste, just like his and Becker's truly unusual and unique type of jazz composition. Consummate master songwriters.
Drive west on Sunset to the sea! I've listened to this gig many many times, and this new mix SOUNDS GREAT! Probably the best Babylon Sisters I've ever heard, and the girls just take it to 11 for me!
If you’re a Dan fan, this is a must watch! Thank you so much for sharing!
Two of the best lps back then till now and forever were Aja and Doobies Minute by minute ❤
I was here!
This is such an amazing performance - THANK YOU! 🙏
This bootleg's my introduction to Keith Carlock, he was a great fit for the Dan
Keith is so soulful & creative, they all are in this group of musicians really, great group Becker & Fagin wouldn't have it any other way...
I saw them at the Gibson Amphitheater during this tour. I loved this band. Jon and Cornelius were particular standouts. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. I missed seeing a lot of legendary acts in my life but no way I was going to miss seeing Steely Dan. Donald and Walter were in rare form that night, the girls sounded amazing as did the horn section. The did this basic playlist but I recall a few tunes they did that night that weren't in this set. Thanks for sharing this, what memories it brings back for me.
Wow what a cast of musicians all superb when music soulful.

THINGS I MISS THE MOST is underated. Love this song and it has aged well.
What an exquisite performance all around! All the singing, the phenomenal drumming, Jon’s gorgeous pristine guitar playing. Just a magic ‘everything is right’ night. The feeling remains long after the show is done.
Fully multitracked, it could be remixed to better suit the band’s recorded feel; a bit more Donald, horns sound just a little too tubby to mix, Walter’s guitar is a bit too out front. I’d love to hear what the duo would do mixing it.
Carlock's drum solo in Josie, holy sh!+
£ove this band, so happy you posted this concert. Also that " clips" is made available.
RIP Walter Becker❤
This must've been about the same time as the Chicago concert. My wife took me for my birthday. Outstanding concert, but of course.
Thank you for revamping this one!
What a nice ending
Walter sounded amazing. I love this.
God I just love you guys and the girls yeah. You are the art of perfection. Thankyou.
I've had this in my collection for years, but, it never sounded like this. Great job, Bravo!
That Drummer!!!
that's Keith Carlock my favorite
Damn good show! I love this remastered version.
STEELY DAN GENIUSZ GENIUSZ GENIUSZ nad GENIUSZAMI KOSMOS KOCHANI na zawsze dziękuję BARDZO
Thanks for the sharing... and the remastering..
Thanks again Dan! for posting another beautiful enhanced version of a show that is well worth watching over and over, I hate I missed this one that year since I'm here in MI, but I remember when the CD everything most go came out I walked to the neighborhood record store near me to purchase it back when I was still using my Sony walkman CD player lol, but I'm so glad I did because It was nothing like hearing that CD fresh out of the package with the always unbelievable Steey Dan sound quailty.
It's very possible that Dan makes these shows sound even better than the quality of sitting in the audience in this actual concert. Thanks Dan! Maybe clean up a Scranton PA show? I attended many shows in Scranton over the years... they were life changing.
Thank you! Great remastering!
Great concert, this. Long time needed to hear those Caves of Altamira in concert. Thank you.
Gracias por esta joya!!!!!!! Desde Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Superb recording. Happy Friday!
Thanks to the guys who worked to give us this wonderful gift. I saw the band in 2009, only one tour ever in Italy. I was missing a dvd. This video is a perfect solution!
Aww damn, Cornelius! 💔 Great show - superb sound, thank you for this!
I was at this show. Thanks for uploading, great memories!!!
What a treat. Thanks.
Superb!!
Total pro Jim Pugh t-bone solo at the start, Wow!
Wonderful Upload. Thanks Much!
Wonderful recording.thank you ❤.
GOD I ❤ LOVE S D and THIS VIDEO. ❤❤🎉😊.
Looks and sounds great! 🙏
TY so much, I've been looking for this version of Peg for years
jesus man where you been? This is just pure joy by the tonne, Thanks a million!!!
Great show. Thanks for the post !
La classe....🪻🪻🪻🪻🪻🪻😂😂🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇
Okay, I'm just going to go off. In a series of random observations. Because the Dan (Becker and Fagan) are possibly the best composers in the American tradition, like, up there with the greatest composers ever. I saw this band later. Every one of them is insanely accomplished. Like, right now, I'm listening to them do a version of Cave of Altamira. If all they had ever done was The Royal Scam album, they would already be my favorite of all time. But I truly believe that Everything Must Go might be their greatest work EVER. That's why I worship these composers and these players.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
Cornelius Bupness the late great one, should have taken a bow after the first instrumental piece.
Thanks for the upload. I enjoyed it very much.
love this take me there
The leather jacket over the BeBop Daddy shirt. Carolyn Leonhart. But wait, there's more.
No Reelin' in the Years?? Dang. I like that song...
Innovative great band
I wondered why the drums sounded so good. Yamaha!
Ofcourse the drummer is great, too.
Wonderful - thanks.
Amazing . TY
..Cornelius Bumpus back with the Dan…cool beans
Steely Dan is s genre.
Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa are great too.
WOW!
D Fagen has fangs like a vampire They play thier music with such precision n integrity its scary Some bands play were its recognizabie or improv where its better or worse But SD almost duplicate They should embelish some covers with same style just to keep it off the cuff Problem there they have so much material it makes it a wonder of the world😊
Yes he's got the groove😂
Good stuff.
1976 my first paycheck, first job 16 yrs old I bought Steelys the royal scam and wore it out.
Kieth Carlock Crackin’
Crack a lack
Aja one of the greatest lps ever by a jazzy contemporary band You got a nice vibe going on here think it's drugs. nah. Hey if it was chemicals that made the band then pass it around A jazzy Grand Funk. nah😂❤
Love it
Amazing talent of everyone on that stage, there’s no words to properly summarize it, but how do they not include “deacon blues”?? How?😢
What's funny is they have historically played Deacon Blues quite often (it even showed up on the set list on every tour they did from '93 through '00), but I somehow have managed to never once hear it at a concert I attended. I've seen SD in concert something like 8 or 9 times since 2003, but just through dumb luck I've yet to be at a show where Deacon Blues made it onto the set list.
@@djbelc01 , the lyrics of that song are so detailed a movie starts rolling in my head when I hear it.
