Ordered the iFixit kit and followed the instructions along in this video. Worked like a champ!!! Both sticky tabs broke on me, but I was able to barely dig out an edge of it and pull the tape out. Highly recommend this kit! Saved me $50 by using the iFixit kit. Thanks!
Thank you! It totally worked for me to pull the tape strips out rather than heating up the phone. I was able to replace the battery using your video, my magnifier hobby light and some well-placed painter's tape to keep track of the TINY screws. I've never tried to DIY fix any of my tech toys and was skeptical, but figured I did not have much to lose. I am so happy!
Thank you for this video. It was super helpful. I was able to change out the battery on my i6 without removing the screen cables, but I can absolutely see how removing them would have made it easier. My biggest problem was the adhesive strips. I pulled them out slooooowly, but one of them broke off the last inch underneath the battery. That one inch of adhesive strip made it so hard to take the battery out. I had to heat it with a hair dryer to where the phone was almost too hot to touch. Only then could I pry it out, and it still resisted a LOT.
Really good video, sound, and lighting. Great explanation. I replaced an iPhone 6 battery a year or so ago with the "pry of shame" and now know that it's a much easier and faster job by pulling the adhesive strips. Thank you!
Word of warning: the 5 screws on the plate that holds the camera/screen/etc connectors are NOT all the same. Screwing the longer ones (hard to tell which are which) in the wrong hole and you'll damage the motherboard. That happened to me about 9 months ago… 😖 Hopefully nobody else will make the same mistake! ;)
the long one goes in the hole closest to the edge and closest to the bottom of the phone... so.. upper right corner in this video.. the other 4 are the same.. when re-assembling the connectors make sure they are EXACTLY placed to align with the print connectors.. else parts of the screen will not work.. not gonna damage the screen.. but you will need to redo the pin connector assembly. Happened to me ;-)... also.. the tape strips broke and retracted under the battery.. next time I will simply use a plastic card right away and push it it gently and repeatedly under the battery all the way round.. takes about 5-10 min!.. but then there is no risk of damaging anything. Battery work perfectly until now.
This worked perfectly, followed everything but note for people: the screws are almost all different so when u take them out make sure u know which ones which
Great, concise video. The only thing missing was that the 5 screws that were removed to remove the screen have to go back to the same holes, because they are different lengths.

Nice DIY repair. But for anyone looking to do same job as professional, always replace the screen adhesive to case to ensure the slight water resistance!
Gadgets and Grain your tutorial is great and earns a thumbs up. But I'm not buying from ifixit because, as you mentioned, showing signs of wear after just 6 months. I'd love to find a OEM battery.

There is no need to disconnect and remove the display. Just arrange it so that the cables aren't stressed. If you really feel the need to remove the display, you need to know the plate with 4 or 5 screws has screws of different lengths, If you put the long screw in the wrong place it may hit the logic board.
