    Ordered the iFixit kit and followed the instructions along in this video. Worked like a champ!!! Both sticky tabs broke on me, but I was able to barely dig out an edge of it and pull the tape out. Highly recommend this kit! Saved me $50 by using the iFixit kit. Thanks!

    Thank you! It totally worked for me to pull the tape strips out rather than heating up the phone. I was able to replace the battery using your video, my magnifier hobby light and some well-placed painter's tape to keep track of the TINY screws. I've never tried to DIY fix any of my tech toys and was skeptical, but figured I did not have much to lose. I am so happy!

    Thank you for this video. It was super helpful. I was able to change out the battery on my i6 without removing the screen cables, but I can absolutely see how removing them would have made it easier. My biggest problem was the adhesive strips. I pulled them out slooooowly, but one of them broke off the last inch underneath the battery. That one inch of adhesive strip made it so hard to take the battery out. I had to heat it with a hair dryer to where the phone was almost too hot to touch. Only then could I pry it out, and it still resisted a LOT.

      Glad to hear the video was helpful. Those strips can be the trickiest part!

    Really good video, sound, and lighting. Great explanation. I replaced an iPhone 6 battery a year or so ago with the "pry of shame" and now know that it's a much easier and faster job by pulling the adhesive strips. Thank you!

    Word of warning: the 5 screws on the plate that holds the camera/screen/etc connectors are NOT all the same. Screwing the longer ones (hard to tell which are which) in the wrong hole and you'll damage the motherboard. That happened to me about 9 months ago… 😖 Hopefully nobody else will make the same mistake! ;)

    • @GadgetsandGrain
      @GadgetsandGrain  8 років тому +16

      +Levi Figueira Wise words! When you set the screws aside, it's a good idea to lay them in a configuration that matches their placement on the plate.

      Which one do you have to screw the long ones into

    • @HR2635
      @HR2635 7 років тому

      the long one goes in the hole closest to the edge and closest to the bottom of the phone... so.. upper right corner in this video.. the other 4 are the same.. when re-assembling the connectors make sure they are EXACTLY placed to align with the print connectors.. else parts of the screen will not work.. not gonna damage the screen.. but you will need to redo the pin connector assembly. Happened to me ;-)... also.. the tape strips broke and retracted under the battery.. next time I will simply use a plastic card right away and push it it gently and repeatedly under the battery all the way round.. takes about 5-10 min!.. but then there is no risk of damaging anything. Battery work perfectly until now.

    There is no need to disconnect and remove the display. Just arrange it so that the cables aren't stressed. If you really feel the need to remove the display, you need to know the plate with 4 or 5 screws has screws of different lengths, If you put the long screw in the wrong place it may hit the logic board. Goodbye iPhone!

      That’s exactly what Apple wants. They want to make it as overly difficult as possible because they want to force you to have to buy a new phone from them every couple of years. There’s no need for a battery replacement to be nearly this challenging. It’s been engineered to make it difficult, and it’s engineered to fail after a certain amount of time. This is the way Apple does business.

      Nowadays that makes total sense. But when I made this video, Apple did not have a battery replacement program.

    I was just at the Apple store this week getting my $29 battery installed. Some kid came in and wanted the same. They denied service when they opened it up and saw he tried to do it himself and screwed up his phone. Lol. Good luck do it yourselfers!!

    Don't do this, I bought the battery replacement followed the guide exactly now home button doesn't work, and now WiFi and bluetooth wont work. Worst nightmare ever. Save yourself the headache and don't buy this replacement product, even if you see others comment with success. I used anti-static mat, clean hands, spludger tools, used super safe measures, and never removed screen or 5 screw plate and only removed battery and still have a broken phone. I thought for sure this was going to be a super quick fix and I was super careful. The repair Information on the topic is so vague, has scare tactics, and overall iPhone just sucks. The iPhone 6 isnt supposed to be so touchy. I took it to a repair shop and they tried a new screen assembly with all the flex cables along with a new button. They said I did everything right and just sometimes this happens, but claimed my logic board and chip-sets may have sustained damage and the whole unit is now un-repairable . God I cant believe I thought this was going to work. Worst thing I could have done considering I use the phone for work everyday, now I gotta shell out major money for something else and copy everything over now. I hate APPLE!!!!! FUCK EM!

      KINGBOOBUSTUBER you must have ripped a flex cable or antenna maybe knocked off caps or resistors that control home button flex any microsoldering shop can fix the motherboard it just won't be cheap or quick.....

    • @MIKESALLSURE
      @MIKESALLSURE 6 років тому

      176cgna I just said the repair shop tried different screen and cables. I didn't knock off any components.

      KINGBOOBUSTUBER if home button doesnt work and it did work before repair then you 100% did either damage a flex or a component I can bet on it.
