Excellent video as always. Some of these may not be totally obvious to people just starting out but at the same time with a little bit of guidance they can easily be overcome. Moving past these sort of issues really improved my confidence and motivation when I started paddling
I enjoyed watching your video above, it explains everything in detail, the video is very interesting and effective. Thank you and good luck with the upcoming articles.
Oh wow...you just combined my two favorite hobbies with that Mario Kart reference. Losing to Donkey Kong DOES suck! And so does crashing out of control down rapids because you're not making use of features!
Really nice video man; I teach a lot of beginners to paddle at my university and I'll definitely be stealing a few of those analogies. Always good to have another way to explain something. Cheers!
Can you please make a video of how to boof and how to boof a waterfall ? Könntet ihr bitte ein Video machen wie man richtig, gut und überhaupt boof bzw. einen kleinen Wasserfall booft? Greatings from Germany
What #6, which is very important Imo.. That of course is amount of alcohol you should have before, during and afterwards on your drive home from your kayaking adventure.. I mean I guess it all depends on how many you can put down 🍺 and store. But safety first, drink responsible ...
Having been paddling for the past 32 years. The top #1 mistake I've seen Every new paddler make. Is over estimating their skills before their ready. And I don't mean they shouldn't push themselves to do better or go farther. But things like, river ratings. I seen a lot of people say. They are a class 3, or class 4 paddler. When they can't handle the basics in high class 2's. Mostly this is Prospective. A wave train that a seasoned class 5 paddler looks at. And thinks that's class 3 boogie water. A newbie looks at and says, Oh Shit! That's class 4 big water. Time in the boat and on the water is the only thing that will correct that Prospective.
How to get rid of „fear“? I always get a bit of an odd feeling in my body when i paddle something on the edge of my comfort zone. In my opinion this affects my paddling and my reaction times a lot. Its not like i had a bad experience or something in the past. Would be really happy to get some tips
Just paddle and have fun do what your comfortable with but always push your level. When you having a good day and you will be surprised how fast you will become fluid on the water. Eddie peel outs and entries. Are great practice 👍 good luck. And remember to have fun
Ben box well i guess im over this stadium. I can paddle. And theres the Problem. I feel comfortable on everything up to easy class 4. Im able to play down the river, squirt it down etc. The only problem is this „odd“ feeling i get on harder stuff that i wanna overcome.
I have all ways had that. One guy I paddled with on a regular basis used to look at me and say then it's only water. I've always been a 3/4. Paddler myself. Big wasn't fun for me so that's where I stayed. Have fun be safe
@@luetzicrafter5428 yeah, the odd feeling is probably a mix of adrenaline and fear. I had that a lot as well. If that's what it is, you don't really want to get rid of it. Of course, it shouldn't be hindering your kayaking, but in my experience, a bit of fear helps you stay focused and respect the river. And for the adrenaline, well... kayaking *is* an adrenaline sport.
Would you make a video on your paddling techniques?Does you will pass by Quebec in your trip to Canada?in Lanaudiere and the Laurentides there are plenty rivers full of kayak juice!!"winter"is now finish !!
Love the videos. I just started getting into kayaking and have been watching a bunch of your stuff. One issue I ran into that I'm trying to figure out how to resolve is when paddling (most common when going upstream) I'll spin out. I feel like I'm taking solid even vertical strokes but sometimes I'll just spin out hard and even a wider corrective stroke to stay straight doesn't seem to help. I'm pretty sure it's my hips but I'll need to test more. I'm thinking I drop one side a bit too low during a stroke and that might be the reason. I just don't test my errors too much since I can't roll yet and if I do flip, I have to bail.
What type of boat do you have? I've got an older boat with a displacement hull, anytime I get moving faster then the river it just spins out, it's a nightmare because it happens on the scary parts of a river, the fix was just to spend alot of time paddling it, even then I couldn't always trust her, got a flatbottum boat, never had an issue
Before watching this I wanted to kayak now... I don’t anymore , I feel like people are going to be saying oh look he’s not doing it right or something 😔
such a pity you are with pyranha. i love the machno, but since i've seen the 9r2 in real i'm very sceptic about it and you can't provide a really critical opinion
1. Not a pity, I have used Pyranha kayaks for 1p years and have loved every second of it. 2. Without being insulting, kayak design is an exceptionally diverse and complicated series of nuances and it is hard to gauge a kayaks perception from only looking at it. 3. I am probably one of the most critical kayakers when it comes to design and gear. The kayaks pyranha use are the tools that I use to chase my dreams every day and I have no interest in devoting my time to using a shitty tool. 4. The proof is in the pudding mate. Give one a try and then let me know what you think. 5. Take it easy, catch you on the water.
@@Senders 1. as is said, i love! the machno (and think the 9r is very good as well) - it actually goes as far that imo the machno is currently the "best" shaped whiterwater boat on the market. 2. i've paddled pretty much every single major whitewater kayak released in the last 5 years (except soulman kayaks, since these are pretty hard to get here in Europe) but i'm afraid that the 9r2 will fall into the very mainstream place of having edges from mid to stern and starting to catch eddies a tad later for the return of being faster - just like the Toro, Five, Gangsta, Tuna2, Phantom, Pheonix and Cocaine. 4. completely right! didnt want to make a definitve statement about the boat. 3. i would love to hear your opinions on other kayaks !!! - because all the pros are with some brand and therefore never talk about the "competitors" brands. i would love to have someone give his honest opinions on all the current designs from the likes of dagger, pyranha, waka, zet, exo, wavesport, jackson, spade and prijon (and whatever else you might have paddled). definitely looking forward to your opinion (and comparison with the e.g. machno) about the 9r2 - when does the NDA lift again? 5. you too mate, would love to do so one day. best of paddling to you till then :)
@@lordofnothing., kayaking is such an individualized sport, what one person likes in a boat and works for them in their paddling style may be the worst boat ever for someone else. Just because someone who is good at something likes a certain brand should not define your opinion or what works for you. As a example, I despise the Macho for how I paddle, but that does not make it a bad boat for someone else like you.
That Mario Kart description is gonna be super helpful if I can ever get out on the water; thanks!

Top geezer top video topping off my night... I passed my legacy assessment at Lee valley uk tonight!
Happy days
Congrats dude! Hopefully see you at Lee valley!
The "bow scout". Do a bow stall before a drop, and get pumping up and down like you're going to loop in order to see more of the rapid.
