    For the rabbits...cheap chicken wire around the outside, would also force you to make a door...bunnies cant jump too high. Maybe cut it in 1/2 length wise to save $ and materials...

    How to keep rabbits out of your Tunnel House. 24 inch hardware cloth or other 24 inch wire place on wood frame. Use pressure treated wood and metal stakes. Place this on the inside or outside of you metal frame whichever impacts the roll up/down cover the least. It will be a permanent situation. Live traps can work on the rabbit population. Orchard people like perch poles to encourage birds of prey to frequent your farm. Birds of prey will reduce your mice population also. I have a 16 by 25 foot greenhouse and I have the wire two feet tall on each side.

    I want to try determinate tomatoes next year. We are in N-NE Texas, a bit south of Texarkana. I think the determinant variety will help us get more before the heat hits. Looking forward to seeing how the Grand Marshall does for you.

      I'm thinking about trying more also. I always assumed indeterminate would yeild more, but theyre so much more work- trellising, pruning, etc. & yes, production stops when the heat comes!

    • @BerkeleyFarms
      @BerkeleyFarms  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve been told that the Grand Marshal is a work horse! Supposedly it’ll give you 3 really good flushes of big, uniform tomatoes. I’m planning to try 2 or 3 successions. Will let you know how it works out!

      I’m 9b Sacramento, so I feel you on the heat. I just started my indet super early (12/31) and put them out no later than March 1st and protect them should a cold snap hit. I’m basically treating them as a determinant, since I’ll be pulling them when July hits and then planting cooler varieties late august. I don’t know, man. I’m just scared I will screw up the one chance to get tomatoes if I grow determinants. At least indeterm give me multiple chances for flowering.
      So really, I’m just a chicken. 😂

    Hi neighbor! (I live in Russellville!) We fenced in our garden area last year and the holes in the wire we used were actually still large enough that rabbits got through, so we stretched chicken wire around the base of the fencing material and it worked like a charm. Is there any way that you can stretch chicken wire around the base of your high tunnel? Maybe fashion some low doors/gates at the open ends that you could close it off with? Just trying to think of some inexpensive ideas to solve your rabbit problem! Congratulations on the new blessing! You have a lovely family!

    Ok my animal suggestions would be to put wiggle tracking up on base and your hip board like mine and use deer netting or insect netting to keep all critters up. Or if you don’t want to do that add a fake owl and snakes around the area out and inside to keep them out but the first method is a guarantee.

    • @BerkeleyFarms

    I'm not a new mom but I totally understand you as soon as my son could crawl he was constantly on the move and getting into things. Everyone that I take him to their house sayour house says it looks like a tornado has been through their house because he just is constantly on the move he will not sit on your lap, he will not stop and just play with one toy, He is just constantly on the move... And we do not have our property fenced in because of the prices of wood so I'm always having to stop and Chase him down... I usually cannot get anything done until the weekend when my husband is off of work and takes him out of the house for me for the day. Hi there, so thos year I am growing
    Hossinator
    Red snapper
    Celebration
    Bella Rosa
    Better Boy
    Chef's Choice Pink
    Super Sweet 100
    Some Cherry tomatoes from compost that taste great!
    Brandywine
    Cherokee Purple
    I think you will love growing the Red Snapper, you can get the seed at Hoss Tools, they have great flavor and disease resistance! I am also making Jadam JLS specifically for tomatoes, get the book Jadam, Korean Natural Farming! It will help a lot! My next adventure is filming but I have to become efficient at farming first, no way I could do it all! Thanks by the way for the market garden video tips. Here is a tip in return. Allow the suckers to grow around a foot, then take it off and put it in water until roots form, then pot up to sell at the market. I have gotten 20 plants so far off of 6 Cherokee purples and there is many more to come! I literally have extra 100s clones to sell so far.

    • @BerkeleyFarms
      @BerkeleyFarms  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a good question and something I’m still navigating. Last year, I sold direct to consumer and knew i couldn’t expect a restaurant to pay that price. I think you really have to consider what you’re putting into it (costs AND your labor) and come up with a price that’s worth it to you. For me, that price was about 75% of what I was making when I was selling direct to consumer.

      @@BerkeleyFarms But it’s a lot less work to find your clients, right? There’s got to be some benefit to reducing income that much.
      The reason I ask is the last few years I’ve gotten SO many compliments on the transplants I give away for free and I was curious what it would be like to have a business growing transplants to order. I have no idea how I’d price it though, since the nature of choosing the transplant means they should be pricier than something you’d get at a nursery. I dunno, I’ve been chewing on this for a year already and can’t figure it out. Thanks for the quick reply! :)
