I love how organized this is! My favourite is the pen directory to keep track of which inks work with which pens. I've been playing around with a way to do that and might have to borrow this! I also love Kokuyo Campus paper. :)
I see why you love your new system--so beautiful and organized! Currently, my inks are on Color-ring swatch cards, and like you, I have my fountain pen collection details in a digital file, though I'm also using a TN to track pen and ink combinations and my thoughts about them (I use washi tape to tag the brands but otherwise it's not organized at all). Thanks for the inspiring video!
I really want to keep track of my pens and inks like this! Right now I have an ink journal that STARTED in color order, but now I’ve gotten new inks….. which is why I want to switch to rings lol
I had something like this about a year or so ago, but didn't keep up with it. Now I mostly use fountain pen companion and the bulk of my journaling efforts is consumed by my reading journal so at the start of the month when I set up my spreads, I have a page dedicated to my currently inked and I note there which pairings were successful and which ones weren't but it doesn't go much farther than that.
Love that! Can’t ever go wrong with a currently inked page, I say. I still will be doing that in another pen/ink journal documenting my journey with it. I tried fountain pen companion as well but didn’t get the same satisfaction of seeing all the inks and being able to accurate match pens to inks. Loveee that your reading journal is getting so much shine though (I’m scaling mine back this year)!!
Loved this video, Julia! Thanks for sharing your system. I use a bound book for an ink journal but I’ve been thinking of migrating to a Plotter (repurposing one that I own). This was so inspiring - especially the custom nib section, I need to do that! 🫶🏽
Thanks Carola!! 💕 - A plotter would be great for something like this (I attempted but i think I overstuffed it 🫣); would absolutely love to see what you end up doing!
Oh that’s great though! I’m a little pissed I didn’t think to do rings before, lol. Happy re-swatching (it’s relaxing to me but also suchhh an undertaking)!!
@julia-here I love swatching and making writing samples too, I like grabbing a book and just copy a paragraph on three widths so it doesn't take too long that's going to stay in A5 I think.
Great set up, motivates me to get my act together! I do a mix of things, I have a digital database but I've fallen behind, I have swatches on a ring and in a book. I started in a passport Leuchtturm and now it's full so am going to try an convert a premade bullet journal that came with ink flight. I told myself if I fill up a month of a color that's a sign I don't need more ink. The teals get their own section as a precautionary measure.🙂
Thanks Christyn!! As you saw, some trial and error.. some reswatching of it all 🥲- I just think it takes time to figure out what’s gonna stick. And definitely good call with giving limits to a color category… I think we have the same teal temptations 😝
I use a Sterling Ink B5 520 notebook to track my fountain pens and inks. Its a big notebook and I'm considering maybe adding some type of ringed planner like this to have handy...
I have just started something similar! Except I'm using 1 ink per 1 page and 1 pen per 1 page, so I can change the order. For each ink and pen i have a few written lines that I add to, each time a pen gets inked up. Plus I have a rating system and a score for the ink or pen or combination - trying to figure out which I will keep and sell at the end of the year, and which pairings work best. Hope I can keep up with it!
I'm doing a similar thing with an A5 Filofax and Wearingeul ink log pages. My problem is that I'm always starting new systems, doing a bunch of inks, then changing my mind on what I want to do and starting a new method. 😭So I'm really trying to see this one through.
Yep yep yep!! I feel this so hard 🫣🤣 - I’m going with this one as my base (I can mess around and do other things too still) but since it’s at least flexible enough with the rings, I feel like I won’t get frustrated that it’s not organized enough. I know at this point, I do not wanna reswatch them all so I at least have that working in my favor 😭

Thank you!! And borrow away ☺️!!
Right now I don't have a huge collection so I just have a Goulet notebook with my swatches, I typically do a currently inked in my quarterly breakdown
Love that! I HAVE to do a currently inked page just to feel like I have my shit together and I know what’s where

Oo! I love the TN to track pen/ink combo thoughts idea! (Thank you so much for the kind words!!)

Yeah, same here! It just got complicated as new inks came in. I hope this got your creative juices flowing! ☺️✨

Nicely done! 👏🏼
Thanks Gailyn!! 🫶🏽

I've done the same but on A5 rings, I think it is better on personal size for transportation purposes, definitely redoing my swatch binder after this.

@Papertalesp I dig it. (I want to do more writing samples.. I never have them when I need them/or get asked about something)
@julia-here and by having the writing samples you can also match the ink and nib flow as well as the colour of the pen.
@Papertalesp absolutely! Sometimes the swatch isn’t enough 🤌🏽
Great work, such a fun organization journal.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it 🙏🏽✨

Oh wow! Yes, that’s so much room to stretch out in; love that!
I created this in my bible plotter. It is really helpful.
Oh perfection! Good to hear! ☺️🙌🏽 - I tried it in my bible plotter first but I had too many pages of course 🫣😝
Love this!
Thanks Erin!
This is great! I might get these Printables and give rings another try.
Thanks!! 💕 I thought rings was a good solution for this particular use case (and it’s not like I’ll have to be in there writing over the rings a lot)

That sounds really fun! I do some rating in my ink journal really love your system. Thanks so much for sharing! ☺️
This is a great setup! Wish I could buy one like this, but I don't have the capabilities to organize and print the pages, etc. Envious!
Thanks so much!
This is such a fantastic system! ❤ Thank you for sharing
Thanks Aileen 🙏🏽✨
