    Unpopular opinion but I actually really liked the shaky cam and just the first movie as a whole. It felt raw and chaotic like how Katniss would’ve experienced it. The other movies feel like I’m watching not alongside Katniss like in the books but as a member of the Capitol

      The shaky Cam does a great job of hiding the blood and brutality at the beginning of the games. It allows the blood bath to feel more gruesome without relying on blood or gore effects. This keeps the PG rating down but still makes the killings feel awful and hectic. I think it is used really effectively in that section, but there are other parts that I find irritating. However, that first movie is still the best in my opinion. Thanks for watching. - de Janglez

      My feelings exactly. The shakey-cam was great in the opening arena scene. But overused in a lot of other sections. The other movies toned it down, but were sometimes too slick.

      @@CinemastersUltimateTimeline I disagree. The shaky cam is used in the most genius way I've seen in film history. It actually feels like you are there and that you are really going through this with, and as Katniss, unlike the films after which feel distant. Never in my life have I felt more terrified watching a film than when the District 12 reaping ceremony begins, and the camera movements genuinely makes you realise that this could actually really happen one day. It reminds you of the atrocities of the past (WW2 specifically) and that all of it could easily happen again. Not only is Suzanne trying to tell us that the lust for power is cyclical, but that the lust for destruction of human beings amongst our own species is also cyclical. Videos we see today of horrifying war crimes in places like Palestine and Ukraine are not shot in IMAX, nor are they perfectly stable. They are shaky, they are raw and they are shot in a way where sometimes we aren't even able to see who or what is being annihilated, but we know that something truly horrific is happening. I wish Gary Ross had been given the chance to complete the trilogy the way he had originally envisioned, as I 100% believe the film series would have gone down in history as astonishing masterpieces that truly depicted the absolute terror involved with war and the fight for power. Anyway. Just my opinion, lol

    • @CinemastersUltimateTimeline
      @CinemastersUltimateTimeline  Місяць тому +1

      I think the reason i have such visceral reaction against it is because shot composition and cinematography are such a huge part of the language and art of film. This is precisely the same reason you like the shaky cam though, as Ross is breaking artistic convention for a reason and it does change the experience and reaction. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion and insight. - de Janglez

    Noooo :0 the shakey cam is my absolute favorite thing ever. It makes me feel like I’m in the games and it makes it feel so real. my fav movie bc of the cameras and the color choices

      I posted a paragraph on another post if you want to find it but i think the shaky cam does a great job creating a hectic and traumatic feeling when violence is on screen but i think is over used in the first movie. But it's still the best movie of the series for me. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. - de Janglez

    I just stumbled across this video had no idea this channel was so small until I started reading the comments! I thought you had to have at least 100k subs based off of how well this was put together, you’re criminally underrated. I love video essays and it looks like you’ve covered quite a bit of media that I enjoy so I plan on binging them today while I play on Palia and enjoy some herbs. Thank you for giving me a cozy Saturday to enjoy! Keep up the great work👏🏻

    Haven't watched this yet. But I'll always be floored by the author's decision to have Katniss fire the arrow at the new president. To me, it felt like a poignant criticism towards how the anger of the masses gets molded into settling into yet another status quo that's not in their favor.

      @katalovesLinkenPark is right. the term young a adult means a bunch of different things and across different fields. In fiction YA is meant for older teens but in sociology anyone before mid 30s when "settling down" occurs is considered young adult. Great questions and discussion! - de Janglez

    Putting this on my "Watch Later" for this evening! I love your videos, and I'm really glad to see that you're still making them when you can. Genuinely, there are very few creators/video essayists who maintain such quality writing and thoughtfulness. When I see one of your videos, I know that I will be watching more than a summary of the media you're discussing or a compilation of other people's words. You always have something substantial to add to the conversation, and the people that are lucky enough to have found you notice that! I'm pretty sure I found you when I was looking for a Hilda review around The Mountain King special's premiere, and I'm so glad I did.

    Welcome back. I hope grad school is going well. I didn't even see you posted a video about Shogun a few weeks ago. I'm going to watch that later.
    When I was younger I always thought, "Yeah Katniss saved the districts!" I never really realized that of course it's just going to keep going in cycles with the powerful on top. I was even confused why she killed Coin the first time I watched it. Sports stadiums cost millions and are usually subsidized by tax money, so your metaphor wasn't far off.

    The reason corporations do not have a vice grip in Panem is because it is a dictatorship. In a dictatorship power must be concentrated in the dictator. Corporations offer an alternative power source and that is not tenable, because if power can be found in another way than through loyalty to the dictatorship, it will undermine the dictatorship (and the only point of a dictatorship is to keep itself in power). In the real world you can see this playing out in China (arguable a current dictatorship of one party but quickly becoming a dictatorship of one man) where any corporate leader who is deemed a threat is cut down - e.g. Jack Ma.

    • @CinemastersUltimateTimeline
      @CinemastersUltimateTimeline  Місяць тому

      In historical Dictatorships we still see corporations exist, they just usually have a branch or department that is set up to communicate with the government. While the corporations are usually owned in part of whole by a party official if there is a way to make money a corporation would still exist. However, your point about consolidating power around a single person is well made and the reduction in competition reduces how well a corporation could thrive. Thanks for commenting. - de Janglez
