The part I don't get in this, when Jake and Mark were scaring Sly about the 'Lawyer' part... If Mark's Dad was a Lawyer, surely Sly would've known that seeming's he was Mark's cousin.
It was never implied that Sly didn't know. Jake just questioned Mark. Sly wasn't thinking about being sued, so he wouldn't think anything of his uncle being a lawyer unless mentioned by someone else. Doesn't mean he didn't know. It was just being brought to his attention.

I'm guessing the producers didn't want a strong personality to replace Matt since Jake was already an alpha-type and the band didn't really work with two. Too bad they went overboard and made him a naive, shy dork who we never really learned about.
