oh nostalgia, I have wonderful memories of Pembroke Dock. I first visited PD in 1946 to visit family who have lived there all their lives. I remember my brother and I visiting Front St and being only 8 at the time not understanding why so many houses were 'falling down'. Many houses in Front st and other parts of the town had been demolished by the bombing. We also climbed Barrack Hill which overlooked the Sunderland flying boat base and were lucky enough many times to watch them take off and land, they certainly made one hell of a racket. I also remember fuel storage tanks on top of the hill which I assume had been hit during air raids which were rusting away with huge burnt areas around them. We continued to visit PD each year to stay with family and enjoyed many holidays there. One memorable year when I was in my 20's I spent the holiday with a local girl, I had a car then and we visited a different beach every day. In fact it was the only holiday I can remember that the sun shone everyday. It also coincided with the arrival of the newly formed Panzer unit from Germany and got to know a few of them quite well. If I remember correctly the place to hang out then was the 'Double 2' coffee bar which had a duke box.the top record to dance to then was 'Lets twist again'. Its been 25 years since I last visited PD but hope to visit again before I pop my clogs. I took a look at the place on google earth recently and did not realize how things have changed.
PS, Does anyone remember Bill Blunt and his wife Lill, they were my aunt and uncle. Bill i believe was something to do with the local football club. They also ran the British Legion. pub.
I lived in Pennar and went to school at Coronation upper and lower school.
Had some great times playing football in the Town. Pennar Robins.
