  • III - On Noise, Data and Feedback (Prepared Drums Studies)
Since my first electroacoustic experimentations some years ago I've been interested in how to emulate that sound world through an acoustic approach. Every time I played with electronic musicians (in a non beat-driven context) it was generally clear that any type of traditional drumming language was not fit and that I needed both a more abstract vocabulary and a more extreme amplitude of sounds. This study improvises over some of the sounds I've been trying to achieve and wanders through my imaginary of data music, feedback, noise and bass textures. And yes, there's a sock in use. Headphones recommended.
It's the third of a series of 6 video sessions on some of my personal drums extended techniques and sounds - all live techniques. Ask me if you have any doubts on how the sounds were achieved.

1st vid and wow, this is amazing. I'd love if one day you might share your process of preparing your set or just general things you might think about when selecting your materials and their position. That bass sound you get is especially lovely bro.

Hey Christopher! Thanks for the feedback. There's indeed a lot to be said about those details as they're limitless. Analyzing the options I take usually generates even more options. I talked about it on some masterclasses I gave but there's nothing recorded. I'll try to organize some time for that in the next year, hopefully. One day you're in Portugal you can always visit my studio. All the best to you

    Dear Pedro,
it would be nice, if You could tell me, what kind of blue "tool" it ist, that You use at 1:51 ?
Is it a kind of a vibrator?
I´m going to play some gigs with the german krautrock band "Faust" and the sounds you make are very interesting for the kind of music we are playing!
    All the best
    Olaf
