Thanks, Robie, for keeping your Vega GT looking like she did when she rolled out of Lordstown. My first new car was a '73 Vega hatchback--$2100 off the lot that year. Bright yellow, black interior, 3-speed on the floor. Not a GT, but I painted the grill black to look like yours. No mags, but the factory chrome caps and rally rings were sharp with the narrow whitewalls--even sportier (beefier) when I replaced those bias-ply tires with BF Goodrich raised white letter radials. So many great memories--and so few '73s that retain their original flair. Exceptional job with the 305--I learned to drive on my dad's brand new '68 Chevelle Concourse with the 305 and power glide. Today I own a '53 210, a '78 Corvette, and a '67 Corvair Monza--but the Vega still moves me more on the few occasions I see one! Again, thanks.
Makes me miss the 2 I used to have. Would love to own one again
Outstanding. Nice work.
Love it !
I love v8 Vegas and that one is exceptional
My V 8 Vega looked just like this, stock GT, 13 inch wheels. Regular UNTIL, you open the hood to a 1958 Corvette 283. Most people where surprised. I loved it every time!
Sounds great !!!
Sounds amazing.
I had a brand new 73 Vega Kamback wagon GT the exact same color with stock white, racing stripe down the hood. . Had a ton of fun in that car. Wish I still had it.
I owned a Vega GT in San Diego, 1973, the same color, 4-speed, but obviously without the V8 -- but a mod I'd always wanted to do. I was just 17 years old but I pulled the Saginaw transmission out and took it apart to see why occasionally I had trouble engaging 1st gear. Never figured it out and sold it late '74. Such a awesome looking car and color.
@@anthonycassata5152 even 50 years ago I would not have missed such an obvious defect!
Friend and I drove his from Las Vegas north thru the middle of the state to Seattle. He was crazy cool. Ely half way. Indian rock carvings. 1976.
These were cool little cars. Very few seemed to survive to today. My friend has an orange one. Great little car.
I recognized the plates and your accent. I'm from the South Shore. I remember these everywhere and from brand new. My sister's friend had a red GT, although stock.
Surprise under the hood! The perfect sleeper, rite down to the 4 lug wheels. Yes, believe it or not, I built a Vega GT exactly like this in Alamagordo, New Mexico.
Engine swap are always awesome 😎 👍🏾🇵🇭🇺🇸
I had one with a 4-banger and a 2-speed automatic transmission in it. The only vehicle I've ever had with an auto transmission. I was happy when my "friend" Jim stole it and then crashed it on Blackfoot Trail, racing against Barry in his Mercury Cougar.
My first car
Had a 1973 panel wagon 350 4sp & 72 hatchback gt 454 automatic, just always liked em.
I had one in college back in the day.
Very cool vega.
My very first car was a 71 Vega GT turquoise, I found six of them and I also had a 75 Monza town coop with the 262 V-8 and four-speed and I got rear ended which let me buy a 71 Camaro that I had for 15 years and sold so my daughter could go to college,Now I have a 1986 Corvette with a four-speed two-tone brown but I miss my Vega
DAM, Very nice !!! 4 years later how she's still running fine
Gorgeous car, I would love to build a car identical to this one but with a 4speed, very hard to find car these days this one looks pristine
@@briansaxby5357 I have one and my wife wants me to sell it. It has a full roll cage and a Buick V-6.
I had a white Gt 4cyl fill up the oil check the gas. Wish I had it now!
Oldie but a goodie
I would love to get a old-fashioned car like this but it's so hard to find
Look at it and your back in 1973, almost late for school.
My 1st car was a 78’ Malibu, same color as my vega, many tickets in that car ...
GM was so close, if they had put a V8 in it and fixed the rusting problem the Vega would have been a great car.
The v8 monza was very close to a factory v8 vega but it wasn't as good looking as the vega.
The Vega GT should have all came with the Cosworth 4 ( brilliant engine btw , with a 7,000 rpm redline ) of course the customer would have to pay a steep premium for it and GM then could have sourced the Opel 1900 engine for the base Vega. That 2300 engine was a real pile. Good job GM with your electroplated cylinders. Reynolds wrap garbage. !!!
I agree I got 2 Vegas one I put a V6 in my 76 GT with a 5 speed tranny and the other one is a 72 GT with small block 350 with turbo 350 tranny my 76 is a blast to drive and handles better then a new car
Thay. We're. Good. Cars
I had a 71 vega, loved the body design but hated the engine, I'd like someday to find another and put a more modern and reliable 2.4 L with EFI. and to me that would be perfect.
Cool car, mine was the same year but a green color, it had a crappy 4 speed opel transmission. White interior. No rust. Been 47 years whemI got mine. Oh yeah posi rear end. So did you do anything to the rear end on your car?
Although the Vega gets a bad rap, most comments about this car are fond. Unlike the Pinto, despite it's gas tank.
Do you still have it?
Did you find replacement brake rotors anywhere? They seem to have stopped making them.
Good news! Raybestos now makes brake rotors for the Vega again! 5008R is the part number.
What motor was this
Do you still have it?

Mine is identical but a manual transmission
I think I had the 71 and it was blue.
Tailgate😮
Had the yellow with black stripes
Why is it "olde" Lilly and not just "old" or "ol'" Lilly. Is it from 18th or 19th century England? Like, "Ye Olde Tea Shoppe." "Ga' day, gov-na, are ya here to drive ye olde Lilly?"
I named her after Lilith, Adams wife before Eve, skeptics, & interesting historian’s believe she has ties to the nephilim, the good book says Satan was bronzed, plus she’s a beast/ the olde is from one of my rap names, olde hickory...
Distributor is 1 tooth off
Nice car ,i would want it with a straight 6 or a v8
Nice! These are the cars that made me a small car believer lol! I only liked large cars full size! The ride, the room, the power! Then the gas crunch in the 70's and i barrowrd my brothers vega one friday night and i only had a few dollars to go out on, i couldnt believe the mileage i got compaired to my pontiac catalina lol! Yeah im not the sharpest tool in the shed, i mean you hear the difference but until youve actually experienced it, you just dont get lol!🙋♂️
