- David Bedford Passed away October 2011. Here is reminder why Madness fans will always remember his work with the band. Arranging Strings in the mid 80's.
MIS thanks Darren Balsdon for this clip.
Bless...the Band... My dad ended up there...with only "not" bad.. but separated from his Family...but...yes there were "dodge" geezers...But my Dad always looked booted and suited... with pride... also many were the same...Not just drunks... salute you to post this ...even the poor and homeless have a heart...a story
I'm so proud of this band, my absolute number 1 fave band for 37 years and counting, my beloved Madness. They are still making fantastic music after being around for 40 years. Keep riding, Camden Cowboys!!!
Great track. One of Madness's best. What's quite amazing about this band is everyone in it was capable of quality songwriting.
People think of all the big hits but this was one of their best songs so underrated not given enough airplay.
thats what songs should be about...a story, thats what i do with my songs.david bedford, lovely strings....all the parts are beautiful..i learnt this sax part and i love playing lees parts..he plays it so emotionally...the bass playing is superb,,the band are just what a band should be about,,everyone take notice, these guys are masters...
Madness always kept their feet on the footpath. And their eyes and hearts wide open. they deserved every success.
Awesome, wish everybody could see this side of Madness. Great work from both Bedfords..
Such a masterpiece!
One of my favourite Madness songs. Amazing!
This is marvellous.
Thanks for sharing, it's great to see this. Best wishes Sarah (David's daughter).
I remember when this was first broadcast back in the spring of 1984. I watched it on my nans old B&W tv. Victoria Gardens was set to be the next single until they changed it to one better day at the last minute. I always thought madness were heading in a really exciting direction at this stage but it all seemed to fall apart commercially. I don't think the pop buying public could get to grips with a more grown up madness sound. To me their imperial period was from 82-84.
This is an interesting, engrossing bit of archive footage, not only for the input of David Bedford, but also the growth of Madness, undeniable UK cultural icons, and - importantly- early 1980's social history....plus a spellbinding look at a video that never came to be, or else was turned into a Bad Acting Fest on Camden Lock...
My favorite Madness song.
i think this band play so well together and thats what makes them so special , as a musician if ur not in the right line up. ur band will never go anywhere xx
Thanks for posting this clip. I remember hearing an interview on the radio about songs that were 'genius' and 'one better day' and it's orchestration was spoken about - it was a great piece about a tremendous track. This is along the same lines. Such a sublime tune :)
Bedders wrote the music. One of the few songs he wrote!
Thanks heavens they rethought the video - It was great with the boys starring in it 8D
Absolute class of a track.. so underrated but that’s Madness! Meant a lot at the time growing up and one of my first vinyl records. Love it.
What a treasure I' ve found. Thanks a lot.
