I’m fairly knowledgeable about geology and rock types. There’s just so many non native rock types here is tough to know where to start.
There are some placer gold creeks in Ohio. Only one mine in the area in this video had known gold but I never found any there. The gold mines are a little further away.
Hi sir I’m aware that it is capable but this is one of the only videos out on using The f75 for prospecting something I’ve wanted to see I appreciate that
I ALWAYS love seeing a new MeMiner video! Were those nuggets at the beginning rocks that you found at that site? I must have missed if you said so... I wish I had a site like that near me here in SW Washington State. I might need to make a trip up to Ontario some time, to see where all the silver comes from, and hopefully leave with a few nuggets (never actually seen a "real" silver nugget it person. Well I hope Daisy gets to feeling a bit better. Exercise is good but very hard for them at that age, there are some really good senior dog meds out there that help with this. Loved the video and the steak looked delish. Thinking on getting a detector so currently checking them out, suggestions on good beginner detector?
Daisy is on meds. They help a bit. As for a detector, it depends upon what it will be used for. All detector models have little differences in their strengths and weaknesses. My only real advise is get a name brand and maybe look at what others are using in your area. One thing to keep in mind is VLF technology is mature, so the differences between detectors over the past 10 years is marginal. As such, the F75 in this video was brought used and it works just fine.
Did you find that wire and huge slab? Those are really nice pieces, I'd say don't etch the wire one too much leave it on the large chunk of matrix w some calcite!
@@meMiner thank you for responding, how exciting to actually converse with you. It was watching your videos that got me into rock hounding. So thank you.
It is probably not silver. Silver doesn't last long in a creek due to the other rocks. If platinum or gold have been found in the area then that would be a better bet. Gold you say? It looks like silver if covered in mercury.
It works really well on calcite. There are other minerals that it affects or slightly affects. You can sort that out by looking at a mineral solubility table.
Please explain cobalt... and each other mineral in this video. I'm happy that you are doing well. Out of curiosity will you get much of the smoke from the California fire?
Hi MeMiner, I am curious about one thing, have you ever tried putting one of those big nuggets in vinegar (or another acid) to completely dissolve all the calcite leaving only silver? I imagine you would need a particular sample with mostly dissolvable rock on it? I would love to see a timelapse and the result, or is it a waste of a very nice specimen? Extremely interesting video as usual by the way :) Also Daisy looks gorgeous, I could pet her for hours 😍
I did some time-lapse videos with vinegar or muriatic. It doesn't film well because the liquid gets stained so not much to see, so I cut the sequences down to a few seconds
@@meMiner Yeah I took a look around and got the feeling that would have been an issue, I saw your video where the pool cleaner turned dense brown and then blue, you should film the color transition btw that would make some very cool content imho :) do you also use hydrogen peroxyde for the arsenopyrite or would that nast nasty liquid consume the silver aswell? I've seen some videos of that stuff used in gold specimens but I have no idea if silver would react to it or stay immune.
MrSwosh89 totally different ballgame. Etching the Cobalt arsenides results in ugly black lumpy bits. Good lapidary material, but not much eye appeal. Can be refined into pure silver, but the chemicals exceed the value of the silver.
I got little ticks on me twice this year already. No lime bullseye rash, but I did take the one day treatment. You would never see/feel them on Daisy until it is too late and the tick is bloated. So I give her a 3 month pill from the vet that kills any tick that sucks her blood. I'd take the same pill if they made it for people.
Hey meminer. I’m from a farm near Barrie Ontario and I love searching for gold and silver coins. I have a garret at max that I want to search for silver ore with. Me and my dad are planning a trip to cobalt but have no idea where to start or where we are allowed to search. Do you know any spots you don’t mind sharing that we can look?
I have yet to find a gold coin. One day maybe. As for Cobalt, look at the maps to see where the mines are and pick a few to check out. There are no secret spots. If I know a place with lots of silver, I try to clean it out and then it is kaput. There are a few places to keep out of and typically they have no trespassing signs. I stay away from any sites right by town and marked as part of the Silver Trail. It seems rude to me to dig holes there (tourist spots) and there are lots of other places to investigate. Almost everywhere has been detected, but there is still silver to be found. Good luck!
"Cobalt blue" is made by the metal cobalt and sintering it with aluminum oxide - man made pigment essentially. The pink is a hydrated cobalt arsenide, cobalt without arsenic will not produce the pink - erythrite. It's similar to the green - Annabergite - on nickeline. Both are natural.
@@savagesquirrel9828 no problem lol it's not the end of the world as long as you keep your hands out of your mouth, and I guess dont lick the rocks lol
Nothing to do with this, but our raw emeralds we tumbled won't take a shine. So I'm going to burnish now to see what happens. If it doesn't work, should I run step 4 again?
I don't recall mr miner doing emerald before. Its great that you find his knowledge helpful. I was waiting to see if he did Garnett again. Good luck with your emeralds. What part of the world did you get them in.
@@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 not sure where they came from. We got them in Tennessee USA from a bulk rock guy. We buy bulk gemstones from him, and he gave us a couple pounds of raw emeralds to see how they would tumble
@@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 we've tried, but the emeralds in the matrix. The matrix is like graphite and as you tumble them, the black matrix comes out and acts like a grind. Even in the step 4 polish. So, I took some 12,000 grit lapidary and polished a few. Problem with that is the green polish tinted the black, and we can't get the polish out of it. Help. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Lol
@@johngreen5837 that definitely is a challenge. I have only used water based equipment and clear oxide for a shine on cabs of anything. Emerald would be a faceted item and I've never done facets. That is why I suggested your local lapidary society.
Hello, amazing videos! I really enjoy them. I stack but would like to become a prospector i been looking into metal detectors and was wondering if you would recommend the Gold Bug 2? Im trying to stay under 1k, also can I find silver ore like you are finding anywhere near Reno, Nevada?

@@silverbullet9748 Many people are sponsored (I am not), so they are limited as to their opinions online. However, I don't know your area, never having detected there. I also don't own a GB2. It will find small gold, but like any VLF will struggle in heavy mineralization (hot rock). I have an older GB Pro, but you haven't seen it in any current videos because I prefer other detectors in the areas that I am working. It works, but is somewhat poor on depth relative to some of my other VLF units. I have 3 other Fisher detectors, so obviously like the company. I was vague in my answer because I didn't want to steer you wrong and this is really the wrong forum for long answers. My primary detector for gold is a Minelab GPX500 pulse machine, but it retails for 6x the GB2 and is heavy. I have heard good things about the Minelab SDC and seen it in use, but the GPX is good enough for now. My current go-to for silver is the Minelab Equinox 800 and Fisher F75. However, any of my VLF or PI detectors will find their share of silver. At the end of the day, as long as you have a somewhat recent detector model, it is a personal choice, mostly contingent on price, the conditions of the area you will mostly be detecting, ease of use, knowledge of the detector and the type of targets sought. Personally, I ignore the discussions on VLF frequency because any name brand detector is optimized for the machine's frequency and I don't notice a difference except ease of ground balancing and size of target at depth. Before purchase, you will drive yourself nuts trying to figure out the one "best" machine, when the real answer is the one you have is probably good enough for most detecting. I used to study all of the newer models and wait for this improvement or that upgrade, when in fact the differences in the field are marginal. Dang, I type anymore and I should just make a video about this. LOL
@@silverbullet9748 One other thought if you heart is set on a GB2 is to consider a slightly used machine, as long as you confirm it is not a fake. Yes, there are China fakes out there. One place to watch is the Treasurenet buy and sell. You can sometimes get a very good price and they usually sweeten the deal with extras like coils, digging tools, etc. Alternatively, many of the online (legitimate) shops have a used detector section. A good number of detectors are bought with enthusiasm, only to gather dust in a closet.
@@meMiner wow 👏 Thank you very much! It has been driving me a little crazy trying to figure out the right machine and that is when I decided to turn to you and a couple others here on youtube and found very little help and was kinda irritated 🙃 lol, I really appreciate the time you put into your response its what I was expecting in the first response you seem very friendly in all of your videos and seemed like a good person to reach out to, it would be awesome for you to do a video for us new guys, Thank you again and I look forward to seeing more of your videos and chatting with you more as well. 👍🙂
I think it was Beau who said that. ;-) Daisy gets glucosamine and O-mega-3 in her regular food from the vet. Not sure it is helping, but it doesn't hurt
It goes to show that you cannot completely trust the detector in highly mineralized ground and mixed metal rocks. No natural rock is pure. Cobalt gives a relatively low signal and nickel a high signal. Iron, bismuth, foil, junk all add to the complexity. At the end of the day, you cannot dig everything if time and effort are against you.
Haven't been first in a while Greig , great way to start my day . I wish I could be there as well.

Come on...follow up at the end! Rocks soaked in acid for a few days to leave the silver behind...those MUST be cool pieces. Don't leave us hanging!
Nice finds! How would I go about finding out if a nugget I found in a creek is silver or not? Thanks
It is probably not silver. Silver doesn't last long in a creek due to the other rocks. If platinum or gold have been found in the area then that would be a better bet. Gold you say? It looks like silver if covered in mercury.
Anouther awesome video. Thank you thats really cool that deluted muratic acideat that calcite will it work on all rocks or just that rock.
It works really well on calcite. There are other minerals that it affects or slightly affects. You can sort that out by looking at a mineral solubility table.
Thank you. I needed to know so i can check on granit
Do you refine the silver any and how do you if you do
If you are meminer, who is memajor ? Great videos ! Stay safe !
Good question!
That's hilarious
Please explain cobalt... and each other mineral in this video.
I'm happy that you are doing well.
Out of curiosity will you get much of the smoke from the California fire?
I am 4000 KM away from CA.
@@meMiner good to know.
Dang good steak!nice plata
It was a feast. ;-)
How do get out of the rocks
Hi MeMiner, I am curious about one thing, have you ever tried putting one of those big nuggets in vinegar (or another acid) to completely dissolve all the calcite leaving only silver?
I imagine you would need a particular sample with mostly dissolvable rock on it?
I would love to see a timelapse and the result, or is it a waste of a very nice specimen?
Extremely interesting video as usual by the way :)
Also Daisy looks gorgeous, I could pet her for hours 😍
I did some time-lapse videos with vinegar or muriatic. It doesn't film well because the liquid gets stained so not much to see, so I cut the sequences down to a few seconds
@@meMiner Yeah I took a look around and got the feeling that would have been an issue, I saw your video where the pool cleaner turned dense brown and then blue, you should film the color transition btw that would make some very cool content imho :)
do you also use hydrogen peroxyde for the arsenopyrite or would that nast nasty liquid consume the silver aswell?
I've seen some videos of that stuff used in gold specimens but I have no idea if silver would react to it or stay immune.
MrSwosh89 totally different ballgame. Etching the Cobalt arsenides results in ugly black lumpy bits. Good lapidary material, but not much eye appeal. Can be refined into pure silver, but the chemicals exceed the value of the silver.
In my supermarket that steak with cost between $30 and $40 or around 25 bucks a pound
Happy camping :)Silver is amazing :) Does Daisy ever get ticks, or do you give her medicine for it?
I got little ticks on me twice this year already. No lime bullseye rash, but I did take the one day treatment. You would never see/feel them on Daisy until it is too late and the tick is bloated. So I give her a 3 month pill from the vet that kills any tick that sucks her blood. I'd take the same pill if they made it for people.
@@meMiner Same here, id take the pill too. My dog also gets the 3 months pill. They work fine on him.
These ticks this far up north, Greig? We generally dont have them up here, but it isnt unheard of
@@ExploreUnderground I heard there are a few near you. The ones I got were is south-eastern Ontario
Good luck!
meMiner thank you so much for responding! That helps a lot:)
Now my mouth is watering. mmmmmm steak.
Even better in person. ;-)
I paint...to painters cobalt is blue. I wonder how it gets from pink to blue?
It is like rust. The pink is oxidation of cobalt.
@@meMiner thanks!
@@ExploreUnderground thank you so much. I wonder if it is safe for meMiner to handle the pink stuff. Arsenic has a bad rap!
@@johngreen5837 maybe a lapidary polsh
What size is the trailer?
10x8
Where did you say you were? I didn't heat that part I am so sorry!

The GB2 is an excellent machine. It is designed for small gold.
@@meMiner Very vague response like most "UA-camrs" I found a local expert willing to give me tips, it looks like I will be heading out to the Yuba River then to check out the American River then maybe to Virginia City.
Thanks anyways 👍

Hmmm, if memory serves me correctly, you said to rub the rocks on the seam of your pants. #savethepants Daisy needs the glucosamine ❤️
I think it was Beau who said that. ;-)
Daisy gets glucosamine and O-mega-3 in her regular food from the vet. Not sure it is helping, but it doesn't hurt

Silver is hard to find
8:58 Woah why is it 54
It goes to show that you cannot completely trust the detector in highly mineralized ground and mixed metal rocks. No natural rock is pure. Cobalt gives a relatively low signal and nickel a high signal. Iron, bismuth, foil, junk all add to the complexity. At the end of the day, you cannot dig everything if time and effort are against you.
