There's something so beautiful about the twins being total opposites of one another. One, a girl, bearing light, imprisoned to sing and dance all her life, who continues to ensure everyone and her brother can live a happy life in the paradise she pays so dearly for. The other, a boy, bearing shadow, free but fighting, continuing only to try and save his sister by destroying the paradise he was allowed to live in. She wishes for a future, he wishes for the past. She cannot live a happy life but sings of hope; he could live happily in paradise but sings of despair. He searches for her physically, she searches for him with her voice. Both have clefs as pendants, but different kinds.
Maybe this is looking into it too much, but when polar opposites meet ("light" and "darkness") they cancel out. When the twins met, each having an unusually massive proportion of both between them (Rin with light, Len with darkness) their singing together obliterates them and takes the dragon with them. I also believe the symbol which is associated with the dragon, divas and the order sworn to provide divas, is a symbol representing a break in music. When they sing their song together, they end the long song and there is silence- no more divas to sing the song, because the audience - the dragon - is gone. This symbol may also suggest that this will all start over again and a new dragon will take the old one's place-- after all, a pause is not an end; this may just be another part of a repeating cycle of light and shadow.
It's curious that an organization sworn to providing divas and keeping the song going should have the symbol mentioned. We see it with Miku and we see it on Kaito's clothing - While it appears to be a major juxtaposition to have the two associated, it fits nicely with the theme above of opposites - the twins; the light and darkness; Meiko and Teto compared with Rin and Len; the organized, supported group protecting the dragon-diva arrangement compared with the ragtag, hated group trying to end it - it seems to fit nicely in with all of this. Plus, they aim to bring silence to the paradise by giving song to the dragon in the depths. The miracles divas weave contains the wrath of the dragon and pacifies it, meaning that while there is singing at the core of the planet, the dragon cannot cause chaos outside - there is silence, and this idea feels supported by the fact that this symbol floats above the abyss which leads to Rin and the dragon, as protected by Miku.
On the topic of Gakupo: I really like how his character comes about. It looks to me that his mother committed suicide after either being selected as a diva (feels unlikely because an older person presumably wouldn't last very long as a diva) or after having found out about what kept their world safe. It's understandable, really, and it's a common theme in a lot of different stories, "the scapegoat" - one person suffering all the evils in the world to protect the paradise for everyone else. See "The ones who walk away from Omelas". Was his mother right in giving up her life to escape a world founded on the pain of young girls? Or was it selfish, to not accept a gift which they suffer so much to give, especially if she doesn't intend to do anything to help them?
One way or the other, after her death, a young Gakupo clings to a book which presumably taught his mother of the nature of their world. While she died to escape it, he vows to avenge his mother by putting an end to the suffering. As a result, I assume because the book was contraband, the organization protecting the dragon and divas has him locked up after a confrontation with the high priestess/queen over the matter. I assume he is to be executed.
He is rescued by Kaito, who wasn't even invited along by Len. I presume that there have been countless issues with family members trying to save their children from becoming divas, never to be seen again, even if they don't know the true nature of the work (perhaps the story they are given is that they have been selected to become priestesses in the 'religion'?) - so, of course, they are kept an eye on and any fishy behavior monitored. When Len breaks in it wouldn't be an issue had Meiko not turned on the organization, but here is when we see just how organized everything is: a second bodyguard jumps in and saves the priest/queen. Of course, things have gone totally off the wall, so a plan goes into effect where Kaito joins up with the group to betray them at the last step of the way - all of them quietly executed out at the ends of the earth by the imprisoned dragon-priestess, Miku.
Miku has clearly seen this happen before, hence here obsession with "History repeats itself". This strategy is foolproof and must have worked in the past; she laughs and mocks the group as Kaito betrays them and walks away. It could well be that, from the beginning, he believed the group could do it and this is why instead of taking them down he helped them- but seeing Miku's power, relented and did his job of sabotaging the group from behind. Whether Miku kills him along with the rest as he tries to leave or not isn't really explored, but it can be assumed he is killed - would it really do to have someone know the total truth of the paradise? In any case, the group fail.
What wasn't expected was Len getting back up. Both halves of the same coin, as Len comes close to death, Rin's song of light and hope nurses him through his pain. When he gets back up, he has newfound strength and when striking Miku he breaks her mask. This may be because of Gakupo's knowledge of the setup: he most likely knew the mask was responsible for controlling Miku, so in one swipe, Len breaks apart the control over the Dragon priestess, and so the cycle is already broken - undoubtedly, this would be the end of the songs whether it ended in the destruction of the world or the end of the dragon.
Len's turn to sing to Rin comes up soon after the opposite is true. He sings her a sad song, and Miku gives them the power to unite their songs and end the dragon's forced containment and slumber, while also bringing Rin back. (It could be that Len's song brings her back, but given that his song is a sad song of shadows, it doesn't seem likely that he'd have the ability to bring life - only end it.)
Again, possibly a total over-analysis, but I like thinking about this kind of thing. It's such a beautiful story. Questions and comments and general discussion about what I've said (be it corrections, further evidence or a refutation of what I've put down) would be great! I love talking about things like this.

Rya - It's quite subtle, but if you look at Len's clothes, he has the "synchronicity" symbol on his arm, and in Paradise of Light and Shadow, you can see that, in the brief flashes when everyone is dying vs Miku, it looks like Len is walking away from the fight.

Auranfox~ I would add to my own comment, reading it again, on the topic of the symbols: There is further dichotomy between the two groups. The organisation, with a symbol for 'silence' or a 'pause', seeks to keep the singing going. The group, especially with Len, only have one semblance of a symbol, that being Len's pendant - a symbol for music. The group that wants to keep the singing going has a symbol of silence, and the group that wants to end it has the symbol for music. I find this beautiful.
Rya - I think it's good to make your own opinions and little world for the songs as well - mine is a lot of theory that seems to fit well with the songs, but the diversity in how people interpret them is something I appreciate about most vocaloid song series. Still, though, I'm glad you can take my word at face value x3
The Synchronicity trilogy is my favorite song series from Vocaloid.

Ok I think I understand what's going on, Basically for you all that have no idea what's going on. Rin and Len are twins but they were separated at birth, Rin was commanded by the queen (Luka to be exact) to be the next Diva to sing to the dragon to prevent it from going crazy and destroying everything. Len on the other hand went off on an adventure to save Rin, but when he tried to fight the queen, the queen sent her guard Meiko to kill him but Len explained what he was trying to do and Meiko ended up fighting along side him because Teto, Meiko's friend, was a Diva before Rin and died. The queen then calls Ruko to kill them both but Kaito frees Gakupo and join Len and Meiko on their adventure. At the entrance of the place where the dragon was, Miku was guarding the entrance but she wasn't herself, She then fights Len and the others to keep them from freeing Rin, and ends up killing all of them, or so she thinks. Len survives and he cuts the mask on Miku's face to free her from her torment. The queen put the mask on Miku to guard the dragon and to corrupt her memories. Len goes off into the lair but finds Rin dead, Rin wanted to protect the world so she used all of her strength to sing and dance for the dragon to calm it down but dies in the end. Len wanted to save Rin and nothing else mattered, but when he finds her dead he was shocked and sad and he realised their desires conflicted each other so to make up for it he says he will sing a song about Rin and only about her. When Miku was freed from the mask, her powers were under her control (she could have been another part of the dragon but I don't think so) she was a dragon herself and she used all her power to revive Rin as a thank you to Len for freeing her, but Miku also gave them both the power to defeat the dragon which ended up sacrificing herself. Once Rin comes back Len is relieved but the dragon wasn't too pleased. Rin and Len both used the power Miku gave them to defeat the dragon and seal it away forever, but at the same time sacrificed themselves to do so.
Wow that's long but it's a good summary of the trilogy.

That's not the case.. Miku made Rin live because of a gratitude... you see she's a dragon that could turn into a human. But she was captured by humans and the mask she wore prevented her from becoming a dragon and because of that, she is fated to guard the den of the main dragon and stop any intruders.. But Len broke that mask because he possessed the power of light while Rin had the power of shadow.. a diva needed both light and shadow to live.. but because she had a brother (Len), the power was divided. And everday, Rin grows weaker and weaker and soon dies when she met Len because as she sheds blood everyday, her body gave up on her thus, killing her. And going back to the topic, as a way of thank you to Len, when Rin died, Miku resurrected her.

I've been falling out of love with vocaloid music for several years and i have to come back here to remind myself why i fell so hopelessly in love with those silly robotic voices 10-or-so years ago. I still cry every time i listen to this song, there's so much emotion behind those synthesized vocals. I'm thankful this song exists.
I'm 22. I was there the day this was released. This series means so much to me. Weird nostalgia thing going on recently. This series isn't sound. It's emotion. Even physical aching or warmth. This was an EVENT. This series was just a huge event. I belonged to something. Vocaloid wasn't going anywhere. It took it's place in my heart and mind. I'm going to be 23 at Miku Expo 2024. Stuff like this is why.

I think I get some of it... it's all about what both Rin and Len want, and until the end their desires are in opposition. But rather than simply bringing Rin back to life, what Miku/the dragon does is grant both their wishes. Rin and Len both die at the end. This gives Rin and Len freedom from the rest of the world which hurt them both, which is what Len really wants when he says he wants to end the world. And in death, they are forever together. Rin gets her wish to because their deaths create an eternal requiem for themselves, which is also the song bestowing blessings on the world, giving it hope. Something like that!

The song is gorgeous and the art is beautiful. I love the ending, because it's not cliche and it's left open. There are lots of questions left unanswered, but I think that the mystery of what really happens in the end is nice, because it lets everyone speculate for themselves what how the story ends.
