Hello. I have the Kenmore Stitch 12 that I haven't sewn on probably 30 or so years. I got it out yesterday to see if it still works and it does. My purpose is to do some much needed heming, mending and quilting. If you happen to have a manual, on the Parts List PG 5, it refers to the part #6840 for an additional Accessory set. Do you have that set or know where I can get it? Your help is much appreciated!
John my machine is is making a squeaking when I sew . It has been cleaned and oiled. It sounds like it is coming from near the inside on the right near the hand wheel
All Free- Arm Machines have an unused threaded Cabinet mounting hole in the Base ( bottom underneath ) the machine . Of course you need a free Arm Cabinet . Make sure the opening is big enough when opened to fold your machine down inside . This is a Free Arm Cabinet I have pictured here . However you almost always have to drill a different hole in the Cabinet base top inside the cabinet unless it's specifically made for your exact machine . Position your machine so it's centered and will drop down inside . Finally , figure out where to drill the hole in the wood . Thats the tricky part . Make sure you have a proper bolt to thread into the machine's base thats longs enough and include a washer against the wood . Hope this helps little .
No it's not a rotary machine . Rotaries are of a very old school early design which describes the Rotary Hook's movement of a continuous circle around the bobbin and always in the same direction . Older heavy duty straight stitch only machines they are generally powered by a rubber pulley that rests against the larger than normal hand wheel . Here's one : ua-cam.com/video/xaW3DyF6po8/v-deo.html
@@michL-A I accumulated it somewhere along the way from a private owner . It originally had a machine inside . There isn't a brand name inside anywhere . So Not sure where you can get one like it .
Hello, I need you help Recently bought the same machine. I oiled the motor sound smooth. Mynissue is I cant disangeging the Clutch knob. I push then know nothing happend.
Sounds like the hand wheel 's washer is backwards or on wrong slots . Common problem , Loosen the set screw on outside of this wheel and completely remove hand wheel . There's only four ways you could install the washer behind it . Try all 4 ways if you have to . Retighten hand wheel and set screw till it works correctly . I will make a youtube video about this later . Thanks John
The most important is the type of needle . You'll need Leather Needles . Probably 100/16 or 110/18 and keep it softer leathers not to thick . Don't expect this to sew knife scabbards or super tough thick leather . They make Saddle sewing machines for that . If you also use thicker threads you may have to lighten up the top tension to allow for the thicker thread ( slightly lower number setting - from 3 to a 2 or whatever ). Possibly match the Botton tension to the top so that they are even . Never turn that screw more than 1/8 turn per adjustment . Then check the actual stitching on a piece of scrap . Thread should appear even top and bottom of test piece . However chances are you won't even have to change thread tensions top and bottom even when going to slightly thicker threads . The needles will probably be the only thing you change . You'll probably have to help the machine with your hand on the hand wheel to make that first hole . Then you can let the machine take over once it gains momentum . I hope this helps . John
Get yourself some Leather Point Needles 90/14 or 100/16 . This machine is heavy duty enough to handle Softer Glove and Motorcycle Chaps type leather . Thanks John

Purchased upholstery thread to see new cushions but thread doesn’t want to wind on bobbin. How do I fix this?
Some upholstery thread is so heavy that it's NOT designed to be used on a domestic sewing machine . Or your Bobbin winder doesn't work at all .

Could it be the belt squeking

Is Kenmore 12 ultra stitch a rotary sewing machine? Thanks.
