If he becomes president, we are done. If I were even given the option between him and Biden I’d choose Biden. I went to LA. It was hell on earth and I paid a lot of money to expedite my trip out of there. I turned down a fully paid vacation for an entire week and even spent my own money to get out of there. I can only hope that this doesn’t happen to my State. Please don’t do this to my State. This guy would ensure that the entire country is like that hell hole third world state. I’m very worried about this. I don’t understand why people like him actively work to destroy this country. It would be a nightmare to be back in LA. I really appreciated my home so much when I got back.

I'm all for taking phones out of schools, but we also have to put video cameras in all class rooms that parents can look at anytime.
What caught my attention was the "concern" on how social media is impacting the kids mental health. I call 🐂💩. They don't want the kids to have access to information, that may go against their agenda.
I dont know, a lot of recordings from schools show some crazy shit kids are being shown.
There are always extremes but generally speaking, that doesn’t happen.

Maybe Gavin doesn’t want kids to record teachers and counselors when they are pushing L G B T Q + issues in school. That way parents really won’t understand what’s going on in class.
I don’t even speak politics in my class. I’d quit if I had to deal with taping myself. I could already double my pay just by leaving teaching. It took me 15 years to reach my tech starting pay from when I was 21. You won’t have anyone left to teach your children, unless they can pull some of the fast food workers losing their jobs now.

As a high school teacher (in Wyoming) I can tell you cell phones are destroying your child's education, more than you can imagine. I can't emphasize what a distraction they are.

In California it’s also illegal to use your phone while you are driving, but the the cops don’t look up from their phones long enough to enforce that one.. I think cops should be fired if they use their phones while driving and the fine for regular people should be $500 first time $1000 next time
Why does this have to be enforced by law? The school my kids went to had a policy that phones went in students lockers at the start of the school day. Kids could check their phones at lunch. And once the school day was over. Kids can use their phone again. It worked fine. No issues. If I had to get ahold of my kids during the school day, I called the office, or stopped by.

You are correct. Former teacher here and this is how we did it.
lockers are usually for Jr high & high school...combined 6th thru 8th schools don't provide lockers for 6th grade...at least in my area

There aren’t even dress codes enforced anymore due to recent lawsuits. If a teacher takes a phone, the school is liable if anything happens to it. They are expensive, teachers aren’t taking them just guiding them to store them in pocket charts or their bags.
Hallways, recess, lunch room, library, study hall, bathrooms, etc. Looking down has become good posture. Ban smart phones from school and allow phones that only make calls. Small camcorders still exist for those that may want to record something bad going on.

Do you know the statistical chance of a school shooter ? (CA it is probably worse I give you that.) There are over 100,000 public schools and each school has hundreds of rooms. There is a lockdown procedure and police nearby. So a Statistical improbability should be the defense for kids staring at Instagram and tik tok all day ?!!?

This is an exaggeration. In parts closer to downtown LA sure but I live in South LA and it's beautiful, not really any issues like that. Downtown LA is a total shitshow no doubt, but it's definitely not like that everywhere. Hoping Garvey can come and clean it up though!

As a former private school k-8 tech teacher in CA, students weren't allowed (school policy) to "use" their phones in the classroom - only in emergency to call a guardian. This was a standard school policy not something Newsom should take credit for by publically stating this. I assume even public schools applied this but who knows how the woke schools operate. Have teachers become so weak that they let students have their phones in the classroom? If students had a phone on them we would take it away & give it back after school. They would also lose conduct points which impacted their conduct grade on their report card. This is a classroom management issue not a political selling point. Newsom is such a dufus.

Some places teachers actually get in trouble confiscating a student’s phone. The children are running the schools in a lot of places hence the complete lack of discipline.

They all defer to each other instead of being on same page to keep the main goal in focus, kids educated in LA, Math, History, Science, without a political agenda. Gavin supported and helped push through so much technology before it was set up correctly. Private schools are better because of exactly what you state these days. Schools have a hands off approach unless someone is actually hurt, and even then they just shuffle around kids to to other schools in the district or other districts. It used to be, FAFO ....and you went to continuation school. Now it takes a lot to get sent there. Sadly, most can not afford this.

I am a retired teacher. I am definitely not a Newsom fan, but I do agree students should not be allowed to use cell phones in class! After retiring, I was a substitute teacher. After two days of being a substitute teacher in the high school, I decided I would only sub in the elementary schools. Students were on their cell phones during the entire class period texting or on social media. They were not learning anything!

He states the obvious with no solution. Teachers are liable for the phones, if they take them. Imagine you take a kids phone that has a busted screen, at the end they say, “it wasn’t broken”…. School is using funds to pay. Students will figure out the loop hole quickly just like stealing less than $900.

CA is in the bottom 5 of 50 states in public education. illegal immigration has had an enormously bad impact on their public ed over the past 30 years. Prior to NAFTA, the state ranked MUCH higher. So, Newsome has to do something about it if he wants to run for POTUS in 4 years.

As a California mother, I suspect newsom is more worried about teens reaching their parents with their smartphones or videotaping classroom issues, much more than he’s worried about teens being distracted by social media during class.
