- A beautifully crafted 1 hour mix i taped bitd by Kemistry & Storm. The lovely ladies followed their mix with a ten minute interview by Paul Thomas. This tape is a recording of the 'Chill Out Zone' show on Kiss FM on the 11th March 1996.

Cracking mix! It feels like anything DnB coming out in the few years from 95-98 had the ability to make the hairs on your neck stand up.

it was experimental, still a mixture of jungle can be heard and not that much two-step stripped down DnB that came later.
All these years later and it's still amazing.

Damn I miss those days! Hooked to pirates every weekend like eruption, Kool and Rude fm. I remember going to an event in the summer of 1996 at Leisure Lounge called Future Sound. Wicked event of Intelligent and Hardstep with the likes of Bukem, Grooverider, Fabio, Dj Lee, etc.
Honestly think this is one of the hardest DnB mixes on all of youtube.
Think this was my favourite era for drum and bass. Pure music and pushing the boundaries. 94 was good as well.
There wasn’t any formula and artists like source direct, dillinja, Ed rush, trace labels like prototype and metalheadz. Dozens of essential tunes coming out every week. This music never got the exposure it deserved, now it’s big but watered down.

March 11th...my birthday....96 was such a great year in a incredible time...every week incredible tracks with never heard before production skills that blew my mind.... Metalheadz, Reinforced, Moving Shadow, Prototype etc....and I got to see Kemi & Storm at the Junglemania nights in the Icon Club in Berlin (now gone due to hipsters claiming the noise was unbearable.... what a disaster...)
People don't understand how it felt being part of the scene at that time...and how it "felt" to listen to the 90ies style DnB and the Atmospheric stuff... don't get me wrong, DnB is still interesting, great productions....but the time from 94 - 98/99 still remains unbeaten...to me, personally. It had this boundary breaking, highly futuristic sound....but full of soul....and you head the darker tracks, jazzy experimental stuff, two step bangers and Dillinja breaking subs, Photek and his minimalist approach, Source Direct.... before "Inner City Life" by Goldie (let's also mention Rob Playford and Diane Charlemagne RIP) I was still listening to German Hardtrance and Techno (Trance Nation 94 or the first couple Mayday Compilations sum up my 'before Inner City Life ' taste of music, with a bit House from the US mixed in-between) going to big Raves....
DnB then took completely over...and it still is my main musical love....with Steve Roach type Ambient stuff)

As usual a great selectors’ mix with that “double barrel” overlapping style few could pull off. Seeing Storm in person in 98 or 99 even sadly without Kemi was one of my clubgoing highlights. Lots of promos and plates. It was in Japan so she ended her set with Japan’s “Methods of Dance”.

Thank you Oldtree13 for sharing this mix. I know there are more great drum n bass mixes out there recorded from radio and in nightclubs. If you have any please share!!! It has just gone 20 years since my first International drum n bass gig (because i turned the age of entry to a club!) That was Doc Scott at "The Box". I have seen Storm a couple of times but unfortunately missed out on seeing Kemistry. Rest in Peace Kemi. Your impact on this music will be everlasting.
