First of all great video and thank you for this. Second having done a couple v2 and 1 v2.5 mod if you don't do much micro soldering then ask someone to do the mod for you. The 8 pads where the FM chip was are troublesome. Try and get that part of the pcb flat before you solder. I ended up having to jump some of them because they didn't have continuity.
I do have this version of 2.5 ,i had not worked it out due to the diode toput it in or not until your video came out i think i will put it in on Saturday with a fresh mind to start the day thanks for the update .
I actually bought the kit a few weeks ago and it's the one in the video, and I also had bought the radio too, but I had also bought some of the UV-K5(8) radios with the intention to follow his second modification video. Now I'll be modifying the (99) version, and this is less messing around removing components too.
A very interesting informative video. Wow, you do good work. The only problem I have with the video is that You Tube interjected so damn many commercials in this 46-minute video, my time hitting the skip button must have increased the video watch time by at least 10 more minutes.
Thanks! Oh I am sorry for those ads. They are added automatically by YT algorythm. I have purchase YT PREMIUM for €11 per month and there are no more ads in all videos i watch on YT. And also 4 more accounts of your family/friends you can invite too.
Hi, I'm really like your work, thanks. I don't understand why in this version of hardware, all users remove 2 comments and replace 1 capasitor, and add 1 choke?
UV-K5 is an extremely modifiable radio. Maybe it's time for the manufacturer to get a grip and release a new version with this chip, bigger flash etc. And besides, I think it's time to say bye to my old Kenwood TH-F7E. CEC firmware is the only one supporting this modification? Are there any other possibilities, modules for other firmwares etc.?
@@mauriziolored6123 Difference between version 2.5 & version 5 is the way BGA427 LNA is done, the latter uses second application from datasheet and provides 22 dB of amplification, whereas ver 2.5 provides only 18.5 dB.
I have both uv-k5(8) and uv-k5(99). To tell the truth, k5(99) is more comfortable in hands and has less creaking of buttons. But that’s the only difference 😎
my respect I have a question for you. Namely, I bought UV k5 (8) about a year and a half ago. in the first month everything worked perfectly. however, there was a problem with the display. Namely, pixels disappear, appear, get mixed up, basically navigation through the menu is more or less impossible. except for a couple of functions that can be done blindly. other than that the machine works perfectly fine. I tried to solve the problem myself however I didn't see any visual defect on the board. the flat cable between the board and the display is fine. I noticed that pressing my finger on the circuit board solves the problem for a short time. pressure must be applied to a specific place for the display to work. in the middle of the circuit board just above the buttons. I wonder if you might have encountered this problem? thanks in advance and regards
I damaged my display cable doing the older upgrade, its very easy to put a hairline crack in the ribbon, and fitted an aliexpress replacement easily. Backlight is a different colour, but now working perfectly.
THIS IS NOT A WALKIE TALKIE, ITS A DREAM IN YOUR HANDS, I HAVE 4 OF THESE, BUT A BIT NEWER ONES, UVK6 I GUESS THEY ARE CALLED, WANTTO DO THE SAME, BBUT MAKE THE UPDATTES NOT ONE BUT MANY, EACH WOTH ONE MODE ;d
Once again, another excellent step-by-step video! Thank you Paul and 73!
Very welcome 😉👍

I think i would need to buy four uv-k5 to get 1 to work . excellent tutorial .thanks .

Perfect timing. I just ordered mine last night. Thank you!
The same with me :)

Hi @om0et thanks for the vídeo. Can you explain us if the radio can transmite after all this modification?

I think also FAGCI REBORN has implemented driver for this RX chip, but I am not sure.

Excellent Video, Thank you Paul for sharing this. 73
Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
Another great video Paul, thanks! Could the part that you didn't solder be a mounting point to give physical stability rather than an earth?
Thank you! Yes it is possible but this mark "G" on the FPC board confuse me because it suppose to be a Ground. 😉
You are always creative 🫶👍👍👍
Cool video!👏👏
Great, im gonna try this.
Allready have the board

A newer version v5.0 is sold. Why didn't you install it?
Maybe topic of my next video?? 😉
I found the audio on HF is a bit low on my identical device when I compare to previous version .
If you connect "audio" pin to the same part as in the video, you should get loud audio.
What' s difference between ver 2.5 and 5.0 module?
Already is ver. 8.3 of this board. It's called IOTCU 8.3
Thanks but what is the difference between 2.5-5.0 and 8.0?

Very good work Paul! The best from LB1NH. 🙂
Thank you dear Arild! 😉
Tnx 🎉
Thanks!
Would a hot glue work too?

Hi Paul. Great video. Just one question. Is it necessary to have this "face-lift" radio or it will work on old one? I have uvk6...
Thank you! 😊 No, all facelifts use the same type of motherboard so it is applicable to all models.
@OM0ET thanks

Hi, yes I recommend to unsolder the flat cable, clean/remove an old solder and re-solder it back on to motherboard. I am sure this will help. 😉
@OM0ET OK I'll try that. Thank you very much.

hello, I wonder if this firmware works with quangshengdoc?
Is the bandwidth on AM mode now adjustable ?
Unfortunately not. I use CEC 0.5, not sure if it works in 0.51 vers. Probably also no.

I have it from my Raddy Malahit DSP2 😉
