Every time I go back and listen to some of Conor's back catalogue, I'll hear something and think, Yeah that's the best thing he's ever done. Then I'll hear something else like " Artifact" or " Lenders in the Temple " ( I could go on and on ) and I'll think, no that was definitely his best ever. I guess it's a testament to what a lasting effect this man has had on music, lyrics, poetry !! Don't ever reach the shore Conor !!
had the same thought, through each phase of my life, sometimes listening to a song i've heard many times, the lyrics and their meaning evolve with me as i grow old, ill hear a line i know, and suddenly it makes sense.
I first heard this song when I was a freshman in college. It was playing in a public place so I never knew what the title is. I couldn't search it in the internet because I only heard a little bit and the last part of the chorus, I coudn't make out the words. The tune stayed in my subconscious though, and once in a while It would randomly play inside my head. Many years passed, in 7th year in the teaching profession, I suffered a very dark and depressing phase until I stumbled upon the song "First Day of My Life". I played bright eyes' songs album by album and lo and behold I finally found the song that randomly disturbs my subconscious for years.
Wow jake bellows backup vocals amazing in this.. plus M Ward on lead and Mogus on Steel... been following conor for a LONG time, one of my favorites right now
You're so right, his voice sounds so beautiful - this is possibly my favourite video on youtube right now. The music, the voice, the words - it just gives me the shivers
This performance makes me want to cry. Not because the song make me sad, because the music, the lyrics and Conor's voice is just so beautiful. As a previous poster said, he looks affected by this song and that really comes through. I think that's why it's such a chilling performance. Thank you so much to the poster of this video.
I played this song everyday through my speakers at a two week long camp. Everyone hated me and didn't understand that Bright Eyes is Godly. But that also might of been because I played the Desaparecidos while they were trying to memorize parts of the bible. My bad :) But this live version is fantastic!
God I remember when this performance came out. I'd sit around all day playing it over and over. Conor is the voice of a generation. Absolutely amazing.
'..and in fine.. Still swimming through time.. Afraid some days I've reached the shore...make yourself free. A man said that to me, but now my heart it lacks open doors.'
I'm a bit lazy, so I saw the piano play in A major, if that's any help... Whether you're looking at diatonic harmonicas or chromatic ones is the question then and what diatonic keys are the most common
his voice is great in this. usually hes a great poet and writer but not so much a vocalist like a famous singer but he sounds pretty good here. it might be the backup voices doing something though
It sounds like there's lots of echo on his voice but yes- his singing is better than usual on this. I think he sings better at certain times- for example, his voice sounds way better on just about every song on the " Upside Down Mountain" LP. I definitely agree with others here that this live performance is one the best I've ever seen and heard just for the feeling, the atmosphere and the adrenaline chills that I get no matter how many times I hear it !!

It never ceases to amaze me how consistently (and for how long) he's released genuine masterpieces.
Absolutely prolific.
Yeah his art is awesome and timeless ❤️

That is Jake! I was wondering about that.
Of all the ones I've seen or heard, I think this is the best live version of any song he's done.
In Spring, when the world's turning green
I only think about the Fall.
does anyone else feel an empty old room in a sea side town-feel from this song
I've watched this video about 25 times now and get goosebumps every single time. So good.
Evan Taylor same
Probably my favourite Conor song ever!!! Big statement ✌️
Probably the hardest top 10 list to make of all time but this ones way up there
You're so right, his voice sounds so beautiful - this is possibly my favourite video on youtube right now. The music, the voice, the words - it just gives me the shivers

You Got Bright Eyes

Desaparecidos are way better than the bible
desaparecidos and the bible feel so contradictory
Still here 2024 ❤️❤️💯💯
Those are my boots stompin' along in the background. Worn from the nebraska pavements , and sitting on my shelve in Dallas. I love you fellas.
God I remember when this performance came out. I'd sit around all day playing it over and over. Conor is the voice of a generation. Absolutely amazing.
I'd forgotten about this song. ugh I love it so much

conor with m ward and mogus....what more could anyone ask for
Is that M. Ward on guitar on the left? Also Mike Mogis makes me appreciate the pedal steel

in the spring when the world's turnin green, I only think about the fall.
Conor makes me feel every emotion all at once
Forever my favorite.
Still here in 2023
Never left 2024
I love seeing Conor and Matt play together
i get chills when i listen to this
thank you for posting such amazing live version of my favorite song!!! (:
This is like the dream team, Mike Mogis, Jake Bellos, M. Ward and Conor Oberst
so...I don't think any other song live can top this.
This is music...
simply beautiful
M. ward and conor oberst are such great artists
Have you heard anything from " Monsters of Folk" ? Collaboration of Conor, M.Ward, Jim James and Mogis. Every song is like a masterpiece !
This on the piano and a blunt
'..and in fine.. Still swimming through time.. Afraid some days I've reached the shore...make yourself free. A man said that to me, but now my heart it lacks open doors.'
I know that " doors" rhymes with " shores" but what I hear is " now my heart is like an open book "
I thought he said my heart is like an open door 🚪
M. Ward is such a cool guy.
I'm a bit lazy, so I saw the piano play in A major, if that's any help... Whether you're looking at diatonic harmonicas or chromatic ones is the question then and what diatonic keys are the most common
Thank you ❤❤❤
Indeed
Just brilliant
Is that Jake Bellows beside Oberst as well?!
I think it is.. crazy
Is there anyway to download this video and convert it to MP3? This version is sooo much better than the album version! Thanks for uploading it :)
cityplace87 this is soooo great. do u have any of the other sessions?
Nice
Conor Oberst is the only human who can make playing a harmonica acceptable.
perfect
Blown away :)

You are so cool! Are you also abnormally young to be listening to "this kind" of music?!
Absolutely.
Pretty much the same chords as Angels of Light - Untitled Love song
i like it
I love you for that.
This was published in 2011 but doesn't the original song go back much further than that ?
YES!
🔥🔥🔥👀
the song is in a major, so i'd assume its a major.
he was such a child!
anybody know what key harmonica he's playing?
sounds more like an E harp
Does the studio version sound as good?
addictioner not even close
sounds like A. idk though. I have my C right here and its not that
prolly a im pretty sure
that's dumb
perfect
