I think the first one might be Saxidomus purpuratus, because it looks SO much like the related butter clam of the Pacific Northwest of North America. I looked this up. This are animals who are very vulnerable for water with a higher concentration of salt than they are used by. In other words, if you try to make them escape from the ground, make sure you use water with a higher concentration of salt than in the seawater nearby.

I'm very curious as to where this mudflat is located. The clam looks a lot like the butter clams in the Pacific Northwest, but I've never heard of them reacting this way to seawater in their burrows.
