Whitelee Wind Farm | Scottish Attractions

Whitelee windfarm is the UK's largest onshore windfarm located in Eaglesham Moor, East Renfrewshire. The site is also the second largest in Europe with 215 turbines, over 130km (80 miles) of tracks to walk, a designated mountain bike circuit and three fishing lochs.
The area is superb for sunrise and sunset photography given its openness with the sunsets featuring the Isle of Arran as a backdrop to the west.
If outdoors pursuits are your thing then Whitelee is definitely somewhere that you should consider. With over 80 miles of tracks it would suit any walker, dog-walker, mountain biker or runner. Having so much tracks allows the site to 'run' their annual half, full and ultra marathon around the site which is a great way to view the area... or you could just walk around.
Should running or walking not be your thing then why not take the ranger guided bus tour of the site. This is great for young children to see the far reaches of the site too.
This is a great area that anyone who enjoys walking will benefit from and would be ideal for young kids and generally anyone who wants to get out for a few hours.
The entrance to the site features a free car-park and free visitor centre which also has a cafe and amenities for use.
The site land is maintained by the Whitelee Park Rangers with the maintenance and building of the turbines under the watch of Scottish Power, two completely different bodies working together. If you see a park ranger then stop them and pick their brains about the site as the one whom I spoke with (Ryan) was very knowledgable and gave me a great insight further into the areas history and the Covenanters.
Whitelee would not be somewhere I would have visited had it not been for the sunrise that caught my eye but I am glad it did. If you enjoy the outdoors and keep your walks under 80 miles a day then this is a site that you really should check out, and perfect for the kids.

Great stuff, good to know my wee video hasn't been in vain. Its absolutely massive and I'm sure if you went today (28th april) then you must have had some brilliant views with those clouds?
