About me:
My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
My channel is these things:
1. A place to share my songs - via various 'Back on Track' video series - in which you'll see each song idea evolve step-by-step, with me (hopefully!) improving my song-writing skills as we go.
2. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase.
I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

I've watched a few videos on this topic and this is the first one that made me think, 'Yeah, I’ll have a go.' Great teaching style. Love the channel
I appreciate that, thank you!
Moving presets commonly used to user presets was a great tip.
Thank you :)
excellent, even if I can't use it because on my cubase 12, the variables no longer have the same name, I'm a bit lost.
As there are 2 Logical Editors in Cubase ( Project Logical Editor and "Global" Logical Editor), reading the title of this video made me think that a 3rd logical editor might exist, namely "Process Logical Editor". That is not the case.
Yes, I think it was a poorly titled video, but I wanted to highlight that it wasn't the other one. It's merely a quirk of mine that I call the Logical Editor "Process Logical Editor" so as to explicitly distinguish it from the Project Logical Editor, which, weirdly, is the only one of the two that has a specific prefix.
Hi Anthony, I've tried and failed SO many times with the PLE, but I'm ready to give it another shot, so thanks for the video. : ) Kind regards, Darren (Wales, UK)
Great to hear, thanks for the feedback!
Hi Anthony, should be mentioned at the beginning of the video, that two separate Logical Editors exist in Cubase - one for MIDI and one for Audio. It's total different and has different presets, I think. You describe the so called "Logical Editor" in the Tab " MIDI" in this video
The other Logical Editor is called "Project" LE (as opposed to Process LE). It's where you perform options that are more akin to macros - i.e. application-wide. I'll be covering both of those topics in the next video :)
«It's only logical...», said a certain doctor...
Thanks for this! What tier on your patreon do I need to subscribe to get your logical preset files/folder?
You're welcome! All paid tiers have access to standard config downloads. if you decide to join up and can't find them, DM me and I'll give you the link.
Hi! could you explain how to do an operation like changing the notes in the beginning and end of the notes in order to humanize chords progressions in the Logical editor? MANY THANKS!
Can you clarify what you mean please? Change the notes in what way?
Thanks for the fast response ! Meanwhile I found it as a : randomize position +-10 in the setup" in the "apply preset.." and this is very useful when you generate chords and want to humanize them .. are you having the same solution when you want to humanize the chord generating?..
Ah, you meant position! That's a perfectly reasonable solution. Another (if you've previously quantised the notes) is to use the "Rough" feature in the Quantise panel. It also randomises notes in the same way and is a little faster (since it then becomes an inherent part of the quantise operation)
Hello! Very interesting video. How could I build a preset that would emulate the MPC3000 grid behavior with settings "Quantize: note off" and "later"? When these parameters are set on the MPC, the machine gets every midi notes to the next 128th subdivision. It's kind of a quantize to 128th except it doesn't set the note position to the closest subdivision but to the next one. I guess it doesn't move the events that are already on a subdivision.
There's a logical editor preset that nearly does that job, you just need to tweak it. It's called "Quantize to Quarter Notes". What you'll need to do is "Add" half of a 128th note (minus 1 tick, to account for notes exactly on the beat) onto every note, then Quantize to 128ths using the "Round" function.
@@OneManAndHisSongs I’m gonna try this
@@OneManAndHisSongs do you think I could also do something like this: filter notes that aren’t alreadyon a 128th then round them to 128th and add 1/128th?
thanks for all this explain but how about insert midi controller or midi note in Logical Editor 😉
It wasn't my intention to describe every function in the Editor - I wanted to give you a good cross-section of features. Sorry I didn't cover the ones you thought were more important.
@@OneManAndHisSongs No problem, always thanks for any tutorials 😘🙏🏼😘
