Some random thoughts: I cannot even begin to express how much respect I have for you and your achievements. Al is a great role model for modern homesteaders. A good supply of firewood is more valuable than money in the bank, imo. Thanks so much for sharing all of it with us! You are a wonderful story teller!
I would load the truck with bigger logs, ie, 3 ft, or what ever fits your truck bed, and chop them up when you get home. That way you can recharge the batteries in the house rather than use the truck battery. Also, you can stack the logs and rounds as they are, accumulate a nice big pile, cover with a tarp and then cut and stack when the weather is not so good for driving. Also it's a lot faster in the actual gathering of the amount of wood required, with chopping it at home, at leisure and to me, saves 200 trips to load the chopped up logs. A lot less work (to me anyway) 🙂🙂 I am medically retired, but still very analytical lol. Love the videos.
So happy to see you stock piling lots of wood, and helping clean up roadside at the same time! Great friends to help find and share the work. Al is a sweetheart .
Great video. You should invest in a BackRack for your truck so a log doesn't kick up and smash your window. Happened to me and my dad one time, he was not happy.
Hello, I'm 67 years old now. When we first started out when I was a child, we had one chainsaw we split everything by hand and we i had no woodshed now. I get 3 souls, 2 hydrox glitters a wood. Shed as you said be thankful for what you got. Enjoy It All these other things are coming time, but my hydrox quitters came when I realized I was getting too old to do this by hand anymore. We live in southern Indiana. U. S.A., enjoy your videos, have a good one.
You are a very smart young man,you recognize what you’ve been blessed with and what you need to work on,something I learned later in life, but I have a son almost exactly the same age as you and I love watching you grow and learn almost as much as him. It is so uplifting to see that not all the future generation is going to be scary. You have a good set of values and your mother and fathers raised you well.
The wife and I spent 33 years in the high desert of Nevada. Our house was at 9,000 feet. We had an enclosed fireplace with multiple blowers and only used firewood because out electricity rates was very expensive. I would get a BLM firewood permit for $10 and I could get two cords of wood. I only cut dead pine trees and there was lots of them and very tall like you have been cutting. I had a 3/4 ton truck with trailer and I could get my two cords when I went to cut them. I always kept 6 full cords of wood in my side yard. We would get almost no rain every year but lots of snow. It was a good thing my truck could climb and go anywhere on those old mine roads.
Your getting in your grove, finding what works best for you. I admire that you have experienced friends that you share ideas with. I'm sure there is plenty to do out there.
A great deal of hard work, friends helping friends and you have cleaned up a road while harvesting your wood supply cant get much better than that . Real nice to see Al again another hard working individual and such a gentle sole Loved this video thanks for sharing
Howdy Diego!! Well, that's certainly one way to keep you fit!!!! That's a great public service plus you get all that free fire wood at the same time!! Having good neighbors is very beneficial!! I think is wonderful that you help Al so much!!! Big bear hugs from Kenny in Ohio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live alone have this to do every year so it is relaxing to watch someone else do it. I put a piece of wood up so that I can drive my wheelbarrow right up to pile it saves a lot of steps get done quicker. First time seeing your video.
Diego, as previously stated I’ve cut significant firewood. There is a place for both types of saws. I have a micro limb saw, Stihl. Love it for really small stuff. The electric I use for small rounds. I have a small and large Stihl gas saw. I do not use microchains on my larger gas machines. Therefore, I do not get into getting stuck. I observe you typically do not cut a relief cut from the bottom. That will also help with not getting stuck. That chain cuts down as well as up. Keep practicing you will get it.
Looks like you would benefit from a trailer, so you can double or triple your loading capacity, awesome to collect trees like that, and that makita saw works great! Also, I love how you clean up after you as you go, good quality to have!
I was thinking he can get way more wood per trip (thus not spending so much on gas) if he would stack rounds instead of splitting it first and then adding a trailer would double his output per trip, but I would also get a gas chainsaw instead of going with all battery power, he can definitely cut bigger stuff like that Doug fir they encountered in the road.
Good to see you weren't involved in the emergency situation out there the other day. I use a watt saw for small stuff but gas fired saws for anything over ~6", youll have what you need eventually. At least you can get wood...
Battery powered chainsaws are great for the typical home owner. I switched all of my lawn tools to kobalt 80v many years ago. All still going strong and they get charged from solar.
Hi Diego, I love ur sign tht ur grandma made you. Love watching ur videos and listening to u. U remind me a lot of my son and how strong u both r. Ur longer videos r good for me so I can do my exercises while listening to u and watching how active u r in everything u do. ❤until next time
I like the Makita chain tightening system over stihl. Never thought of using an inverter to charge my batteries in construction. I love using battery powered chainsaws for limbing but prefer my gas powered for big logs. I might put a piece of plywood in to protect your back window when throwing in wood.
Do what’s best for you Diago, don’t listen to anyone who is not in your situation. I love your videos and have a lot of respect and appreciation for you in that you give others respect and appreciation for their small gifts of life. Thanks
Being grateful, thankful, appreciative of what we have is the secret to happiness. I think young man you are rich in all the important qualities in life that make you happy appreciate what you have. You come up with ideas that work out fine for you for the time being. That’s the main thing it is taken care of to suit you. Life is a learning experience. When we are open minded we will learn until the day we die, when we know better we do better. This is the very reason that life is fun, exciting, enjoyable, we are always trying mew things on our own to see how it works out. You have a great idea for your wood works great as it’s less steps for you its dry out in the air to dry it more. If we spent our lives Pleasing others we would never be happy. We be living our lives threw them, some people are to opinionated. You have got it made, you are living your life the way you chose to live it, not everyone can say that. I am new just the second video I enjoy your way of living, thanks for sharing.
You'd make an excellent engineer. I really appreciate your organizational skills and for being meticulous. Having order is imperative for sure. Awesome as always.
My new fav channel. I have been binge watching all night. I live on an acreage property on the Gold Coast of Australia and wish i had half the energy that you do.
Once we have watched more than 2 of your videos we understand you are: A. Not perfect, I like you like that, you are smart enough to make a difference in all of our lives if we open up and see your value! You are great dude! #DiegoTries
I really admire your work ethic and all the improvements that you have made on your cabin i know what you mean about people telling you that gas power saws are better than battery saws im not one for telling people what to do unless it helps them out ea h to their own as I say but just a little tip when loading up your truck carefully when tossing the wood in your truck i have seen it bounce up and break a.back glass just saying and I like the jam you were listening to blue on black keep up the great work and videos I really injoy watching them and the work that you do
Your channel is good. The hunting and cutting of firewood are excellent. Do more of these episodes. Find new and different locales. Other channels are similar (carbon copies) to what you do. Yours is the best. Keep up the good work.
Thankyou for sharing Im new to your channel take care and have a good day and your right for using electric tools,, are the best. thankyou again..also thankyou for beening friends with the elsders be safe and have a good day.
Having a second chainsaw is helpful - especially if you get one bound up! Gas or electric. Have a few wedges as well - they can help when prying is tough to free up a bound up saw.
I'm with you on the electric chainsaw. I'm also invested in the Makita ecosystem and I'm not going back. I'm slowly electrifying all my outdoor equipment. It's quieter, upkeep is way easier, and in the case of the string trimmer, when the batteries are done, I'm done. I'm not killing myself for grass. Not relying on wood heat for more than ambience, the little Makita 10" saw is enough for me, though it's decidedly down on power. I still have a gas Stihl if things get desperate.
Really like your channel. You should put that splitting maul down and spit with your double bit ax. Try the twist split. Take the ax hold full length away on the log, put the ax at a 45° angle with your off hand or furthest out hand hold it at a 45° angle grab with the other hand swing down at the with the ax head at angle and it'll automatically split the wood out. With ax at a 45° angle the axle bites into the log and then the weight of the head will pop it the log apart. This is a much more efficient and less stressing way to split wood that has straight grain save the splitting ball for twists that are knotted wood. With the twist method with the double bit ax I used to split a cord and half of wood and two to three hours. You're doing it right by cutting all your rounds with the saw first, and then splitting afterwards and loading it's much more efficient to do it that way. Kris
Hey Diego, people that comment are just trying to contribute something and engage with you. Don’t take it too personally! It’s a good sign of your channel growing. I just found you and really enjoy your videos and mindset. Greetings from AK!
I think you are doing fine in the wood yard and the biggest thing you got going in your endeavors is you are young , healthy and strong as an ox lol and I am so amazed at how wonderful your post and beam wood shed came out ......that wasn't your first time building post and beam lol keep up the good work . But next time before you cut up good lumber for fire wood check and see if anyone of your neighbors could use it for repairs and to live off grid you kinda have to be a hoarder of sorts to get by.
Hey Dude, proud of your choice of battery saw, etc. I changed from Stihl gas to my Greenwerks 18" chainsaw with two 6 volt battery's and charger going in my truck plug in and I can cut all day long! An ole man from Canby, OR. Keep up the good channel gas free!😊
I love my Dewalt 60v saw. Like you I had a bunch of batteries already for numerous tools. It wasn't much money and the noise alone makes it worth it for me. Of course I'll run my big gas saw for large stuff but for what most people need a saw for they are fine.
Just a piece of advice. It would probably be better to cut your wood in longer but manageable lengths when away from home and junk it up at home as to maximize the amount you can get before you need to recharge your batterys. And I find you can get more in a bed by taking it in lengths by leaving the tailgate down and letting it run a couple feet out past the tailgate.
Everyone has their own methods to their madness 😂 What works for you, keep doing! I load my trucks with log length, then ill bring it back and cut to size, split, then stack. It just works for me. I do see the benefit of splitting it on the road, that wayvall you have to do is stack when you get home. I dont know why, but splitting on the side of the road isn't appealing to me. But hey, keep up the great work and cant wait for more videos!
Thanks for sharing. even with a wood shed your gonna wanna keep a supply of wood on the porch to feed your inside supply. and also the battery powered saws although im not excited about it are the way of the future.
Nobody was born with all the knowledge... oh comes with life...not the goal is important but the wat it leeds to it.. good job well done. Great video.. Take care grtz from Holland from a 75jrs old lady ego still stack her wood❤
My oldest brother puts a tarp in the bed, loads it with wood or whatever and hooks it to something when he unloads it, pulls forward and it all slides out then he just stacks it.
As long as the job gets done, does it really matter how you do it everybody’s gonna have an opinion I would just do what is best for me and let them worry about what’s best for them ……Tiny Houston MS
See, that was fun. Though I did notice your editing. Seems like you had a bit of fun with it. Jason @ Gone with the Wynns , a sailing channel, says it takes him an hour per final minute of uploaded vlog. I say that to be encouraging, not judging. It's great that your neighbours are nice, too. Looking out for you, as well. It's the tail end of summer here, and your snow looks wonderful.
I gotta say it but that first tree was not ash lol it was a Doug for! If you can split the wood right where it lies when you cut it using a golf swing, saves a lot of energy. Nothing wrong with saving lumber you may be able to use someday..add a section on your woodshed for lumber storage you'll thank yourself later when you really do get old.
I used to love doing firewood! You like all the same music I do. Classic rock and George Strait is my favorite! Come to Expect it from me is a good old tune
Hi Diego. Great content. I’m pretty sure the tree you were cutting at 20 minutes is not ash but more like a conifer of some kind. It looks more cedar than ash just based on colour and bark. Ash is more pink and generally drier and sounds slightly different.
Great. I find it easier to do 4ft logs in truck then cut split at home. I get more wood per trip. Split wood makes air gaps. Oh and... People said refrigerators were no better than ice boxes. Shesh ! Ash hard wood burns long. Cedar soft wood burns fast. Dont use pitch wood that will create cinder in the stack. Always use super dry wood. Need a wood shed. Lets cut up these 2x6 hmmm Great close to the video. You rock!
Good video. I wouldn't recommend stacking your firewood straight from the ground up. The wood soaks up the moisture from ground. Get some pallets or something to stack the firewood on top of. Good luck.
If you come across a timer you could see how long it takes for the batteries to charge set a timer for that amount and be getting them in the charger faster. I never had an issue but I've never had a high consumption tool like your chainsaw before. Thanks for the video
Man, I feel you on getting rid of scrap lumber. I still struggle with burning or cutting up some of the random 2x4 or 2x6 pieces that are stored in the top of the garage for “future use” same boat. 3 foot pieces maybe a few 5 foot chunks. Have to get into the throw it away mode and stop hoarding like my dad. lol.
Try to always have a second or third sharp chain along. Try not to cool down to much when you take breaks, put a shirt or jacket back on. I used to cut wood for my own use and for sale. Largest tree I cut out of the forest was 42in Ponderosa Pine. You are doing good work, stay healthy.
Some random thoughts: I cannot even begin to express how much respect I have for you and your achievements. Al is a great role model for modern homesteaders. I was about to comment the same thing. Some sort of headache rack would prevent a big headache when the logs hit the window!

Am I the only one enjoying the sound of the wood being chopped.? Love your content... watching from UK
The music you listen to is on point!!! Killing me softly! Yes!! Hello from Nebraska!!!
Good job
I love how you do stuff. Keep it up. Learn as you go and listen to the old timers.

This guy looks legit. I am now happy to subscribe. Hope he continues to provide raw and real content.
Kudos to you my friend. At least you have appreciated your gratitude, & as well your humble pie . Till next time !¡!
You are a young man cutting wood. I'm a sixty year old woman cutting her own fire wood. I use only Stihl. Gets hard at times but I still get it Done.
An enjoyable video thank you, we will see you on the next one
I live alone have this to do every year so it is relaxing to watch someone else do it. I put a piece of wood up so that I can drive my wheelbarrow right up to pile it saves a lot of steps get done quicker. First time seeing your video.
Does he really need a wood storage shed?
For all 13 chords of firewood
I think your doing it rite your a good guy thanks for sharing your videos I love watching them ❤️✌🏼
That's a lot of hard work. So proud of you. Keep up the amazing work. Have the greatest day ever, love and peace.
Probably be way more efficient letting the gas chainsaw do the cuttin and the other person splitting a bit and loading.
Diego, as previously stated I’ve cut significant firewood. There is a place for both types of saws. I have a micro limb saw, Stihl. Love it for really small stuff. Save your body. Cut down 3/4 of a log. Roll the log and finish. You’re kill your back manipulating the logs.
Plus, put a=plywood liner on the bed of your truck. It will help save the bed.
Furriest firewood I ever seen !
Looks like you would benefit from a trailer, so you can double or triple your loading capacity, awesome to collect trees like that, and that makita saw works great! Also, I love how you clean up after you as you go, good quality to have!

I owned a Nissan Navara truck,,absolutely fantastic machine,,owned it from new,,for 3 years never ever let me down..
Put the round blocks inside a tire. Makes splitting a lot faster. Maybe keep 2 significantly different rim size tires around.
It's a good thing you have a STRONG BACK. My back is aching just watching you!!
Good to see you weren't involved in the emergency situation out there the other day. I use a watt saw for small stuff but gas fired saws for anything over ~6", youll have what you need eventually. At least you can get wood...
Good job. You will going your own way. Keep going. Greetings.
Dude... making me jealous over here! I miss cutting up and splitting firewood. It's been too long. The best workout for sure :)
Battery powered chainsaws are great for the typical home owner. I switched all of my lawn tools to kobalt 80v many years ago. All still going strong and they get charged from solar.

Really enjoyed this one - long form is great.
My favorite part of this video...resting on the sticks!!! Thank you for providing a great video about your thought process to gathering the wood.
I like the Makita chain tightening system over stihl. Never thought of using an inverter to charge my batteries in construction. I love using battery powered chainsaws for limbing but prefer my gas powered for big logs. I might put a piece of plywood in to protect your back window when throwing in wood.

Wedges my brother. Flea market iron wedges. I keep a couple in my truck always. Although, since I buy them every time I see them I bet I have 50 lol 😊
You did well chopping that all up, well done.

I love seeing how many views this video has been getting! Great job man! Keep up the great work, its paying off!
its always the day after you got rid of the old lumbers there's something popping up requiring said lumber 😂 fingers crossed its not the case here
I love my Dewalt 60v saw. Like you I had a bunch of batteries already for numerous tools. It wasn't much money and the noise alone makes it worth it for me. Of course I'll run my big gas saw for large stuff but for what most people need a saw for they are fine.

Well done ❤ watching from Philippines...
My oldest brother puts a tarp in the bed, loads it with wood or whatever and hooks it to something when he unloads it, pulls forward and it all slides out then he just stacks it.
Liked it a lot. Get more wood! Keep getting strong.
I have both, The battery one is cheaper to run. I use it when I can't buy gas and oil
Great video putting in the work

It's the tail end of summer here, and your snow looks wonderful.
Diego remember STICK on the Ice 🧊, SAW in the WOOD 🪵 and RUBBER on the ROAD . 😊
Your so blessed!
Great job keep it up
I gotta say it but that first tree was not ash lol it was a Doug for!
Firewood warms you three times, cutting , hauling and burning. cheers
Hi Diego. Great content. I’m pretty sure the tree you were cutting at 20 minutes is not ash but more like a conifer of some kind. It looks more cedar than ash just based on colour and bark. Ash is more pink and generally drier and sounds slightly different.
its douglas fir. not ash.
this video is awesome
Lets cut up these 2x6 hmmm
Great close to the video. You rock!
Keep wood off the ground. Even just some pallets help.
I love watching this,if I was younger and single I'd love to tryiving like this.i take my hat off to you
